The Painted House Gîtes – stylish accommodation for up to 16 guests
Our collection of five charming gîtes seamlessly blend traditional character and elegance with all the modern comforts and conveniences you could wish for. Whether you are looking to unwind for a few days with family or friends or are eager to explore the picturesque countryside on foot or by bicycle, our accommodation provides the perfect base for your stay.
We have ensured that all of our gîtes are well equipped, with your comfort as our top priority. Upon arrival, you will find a welcome pack containing essential supplies such as tea, coffee pods, sugar, sweet and savoury snacks, oil, herbs, toilet rolls, and complimentary toiletries, to help you settle in and enjoy a hassle-free stay.
Guests can enjoy the spacious, west-facing communal garden, which backs onto the local park. The garden is well appointed with a swimming pool, barbecue equipment, and ample garden furniture, providing the ideal setting for relaxing or entertaining outdoors.
Châteauneuf-sur-Charente offers an excellent location for your getaway, with convenient transport links by air, road, or rail. Our gîtes are situated in a safe, quiet residential area, just a five-minute walk from the town centre and the train station. The local market takes place on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings, giving you the opportunity to experience the region’s vibrant atmosphere. The beautiful Charente River flows through the town, where you will find the Bain des Dames—a wonderful spot for a picnic or to enjoy water sports during the summer months.
Cyclists will appreciate that the renowned Le Flow Vélo cycle route passes through the town, heading east towards Angoulême and west towards Cognac. Our location serves as an excellent base for cycling enthusiasts, with lots of quiet country lanes to explore in this scenic part of southwest France. We offer secure bike storage and have several Ridley road bikes available for hire.
We live on the premises in the Painted House and are always on hand should you require any assistance during your stay. You are also welcome to tour the rooms, which were beautifully decorated by the artist Paul Rousseau. From time to time, you may see us and our friendly dog, Winnie, in the garden as we tend to the daily maintenance and upkeep of the pool and outdoor spaces.
For larger groups, we can accommodate up to sixteen guests, with the possibility of adding a baby or child under two in our Van Gogh gîte. There is ample space for a travel cot, and we provide a highchair and changing mat to ensure the comfort of our youngest guests.
Three of our gites are on the ground floor for those who prefer not to have stairs.
