Welcome to our secret garden and gîtes. Gîtes de Javarzay is a charming retreat, just a two-minute walk from the beautiful Renaissance castle of Javarzay. Set in a secluded walled garden, the gîtes and pool offer the perfect combination of tranquillity and convenience, with the town of Chef-Boutonne just a 10-minute walk away. This picturesque town is proudly recognised as a 'Petit Cité de Caractère'.
Our family-friendly gîte Verbena offers spacious and modern accommodation, but has retained its rustic character. This 200-year-old former agricultural building has been lovingly restored, adding to its rustic charm, but it has also been modernised with a contemporary twist, proudly showcasing the massive beams and stone walls upstairs.
On the ground floor, you will find a well-equipped open-plan kitchen with everything you need for your stay. A comfortable living room for the whole family and an assortment of books, DVDs and games for when the weather is not so good, not to mention a wood-burning stove for the colder days. For extra comfort and convenience, there is a toilet downstairs.
Our large 2-bedroom cottage is an ideal holiday home for up to 5 people and has 1 double bed, 2 single beds and a sofa bed for 1 person downstairs. There are 2 bathrooms upstairs, one spacious bathroom with a bath and the other with a shower. You can also use wifi free of charge, bed linen and towels are provided free of charge. Bath towels are available on request. A travel cot and high chair are available on request.
Dive into relaxation in our 10 x 5-metre saltwater pool, perfect for a refreshing dip or just relaxing with a good book in the shade of an umbrella, with a glass of wine in hand. Our walled outdoor area is a safe haven for children and offers plenty of activities for everyone. Whether you enjoy a friendly game of table tennis, a competitive game of badminton or cool off in the pool with a fun inflatable toy, you will enjoy your holiday at Gites de Javarzay. Enjoy a barbecue on your terrace, sip a cool glass of wine while watching the stars with a cosy handmade blanket on your lap.
Please note that the unheated pool is open from 1 June to 30 September, but weather permitting, we will do our best to open it earlier than June and close it later than September. The pool is shared with another cottage.
Please note that we live on site and you will see us on the property and when cleaning the pool. We will let you enjoy your stay, but will be nearby if you need us.
Please note that due to our location in the city, we have neighbours nearby. We ask our guests to be respectful and not to make noise between 10pm and 7am.
Please note that smoking and vaping are not allowed in the cottages.

Gites de Javarzay is located in a beautiful part of south-west France, in the Deux-Sèvres department (79).
We are within walking distance of the beautiful Château de Javarzay with its estate and fishing pond. Besides a short 10-minute walk to numerous amenities in the town of Chef-Boutonne, you will find 3 bars (including 1 with food), 1 pizzeria, bakers, butchers, banks, 2 supermarkets (including 1 with electricity connection, both with petrol stations), a cinema and a weekly Saturday market. If you like fresh bread and pastries, you are in luck, as there is a great bakery just a 1-minute walk away.
We are ideally located to explore the area with the whole family, including Niort and the tranquillity of Marais Poitevin, also known as 'Green Venice', Cognac, La Rochelle, Rouen, Futuroscope, Zoodyssey, La Vallée des Singes and much more. We are an ideal base to explore the area or enjoy our beautiful south-facing saltwater pool and sunbathing.

Restaurants, food & wine
Although semi-rural, we are in an ideal location with restaurants and bars within walking distance. For even more choice, a short drive will take you to even more restaurants, including traditional French, Vietnamese, steakhouse, Mediterranean, Indian and British restaurants. La Rochelle is a must for its fresh seafood and great selection of restaurants. Take a drive to Cognac and you will find well-known cognac houses or small organic family-run businesses where you can taste cognac and pineau.
We are lucky to have local artisans nearby producing honey, cheese, bread and trout. In addition, Chef-Boutonne has a weekly market on Saturday mornings and there are many other local markets you can explore.
