The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Statement commissioned by the French government: 'I am a private landlord'.

What a great year 2023 was. Everything was tip-top, ready to welcome all guests again and there were many!
We were therefore nicely full again "comme d'habitude" in 2023.
2024 is also going fine, we are almost completely full again!
For HYGIENE, you don't have to worry with us.
When guests change over, Mary cleans as usual (9.4 out of 10 on ZOOVER for hygiene!).

THAN OUR AD NOW:

The cottage, also called 'Gîte', has a very extensive inventory. Through the spacious very well-equipped kitchen, you have access to the dining room.
Adjacent is the lounge. It has a double sofa bed and French windows.
Both downstairs and upstairs, the gîte has a toilet and shower.
There is a bedroom with a double bed (1.80 x 2.00, can be split up) and a bedroom with two single beds (80 x 1.90).

The Chalet, located near the large swimming pool (10x5m), is also available to guests and has a sink, toilet and shower.
Of course, the swimming pool with sun loungers can also be used.
For the little ones, there is playground equipment on the playing field behind the pool (swing, slide, etc).
Older children can play jeu-des-boules and badminton.
In the garden by the gîte there is a table tennis table and a movable construction for a hammock.

There are NO rental accommodations on our site, except for a simple mobile home.
IN THE PRICE OVERVIEW YOU WILL SEE A HUGE DISCOUNT IN THE COSTS between the fourth guest and fifth/sixth guest.
This is because the mobile home is INCLUDED in the price: € 50,- p/week for this mobile home and € 50,- for the fifth guest and possibly sixth guest.

The mobile home has a double bed, a sitting area and a simple kitchen and can only be rented by the same guests who rented the Cottage. Ideal for an older child with a friend or grandparent. You will have more space and privacy.

A number of board games and DVDs are available in the cottage. Other board games can be borrowed such as Monopoly, Risk, Cluedo, Triviant, Chess, Checkers, Who is it and many more.

'Kuppens Cottage' is located just outside the centre of Le Bugue (2.5km). Hostess Mary and her husband John offer options for a holiday for one to four people in 'Kuppens Cottage'. If necessary, a camp bed can be added. With a fifth and/or sixth adult, use of the mobile home is required.

The town offers supermarkets (Aldi, LIDL and a large Intermarché with a washing machine and dryer unit for a very acceptable price), many restaurants and a large weekly market.
Le Bugue itself also has major attractions such as Gouffre de Proumessac, the impressive 'Aquarium' and the crafts village 'Ville Bournat'.

Surroundings

'Kuppens Cottage' is located in a quiet street about 2.5 km from the market town of Le Bugue. The town is in the heart of the Périgord-noir (in the Dordogne region).
The beautiful river 'La Vézère' cuts through the town of Le Bugue. The river gently ripples on to Limeuil where it merges with "La Dordogne".

From Kuppens Cottage, the town centre can be reached via the river quay by bike or even easily on foot.

Everything you need can be found in Le Bugue. The town has many shops and there is a market twice a week. The main one is on Tuesday mornings. On Saturday mornings there is a smaller market but with many regional products.

Le Bugue is characterised by a rural atmosphere. It is a popular region for the Dutch, Belgians, Germans and English alike. The immediate area is characterised by its rich gastronomy, caves, castles, natural beauty and memories of Neanderthals.

    Warme groeten ,

Comment from John en/of Mary Kuppens

    Dag Diana,
    Groetjes,
    Mary & John

Restaurants, food & wine

Restaurants
Le Bugue:
- Vézère Lodge:currently closed.
- Da Francesco: a very good Italian restaurant serving refined Italian cuisine in an appropriate (private backyard) ambience.
- Chez Oscar: specialising in regional dishes. You'll eat the real salad gegiers, confit de canard and a crême brulée here!
- A pizza? Those are best at the pizzaria "Basilica", prepared in a visible wood-fired oven.
- Restaurant Le Chateau: Delicious dining in the enclosed garden opposite the chateau with its beautiful walking garden. Great value for money. Our favourite!
- Le Pha, with delicious curries and Vietnamese dishes.

Audrix:
Auberge (Inn) La Vieille Treille, beautifully located, has typical French cuisine.

Monbazillac:
There is a wine chateau here where it is "good tasting" after the tour. Naturally, you can also buy some (Bergerac) wine there.

More information on restaurants is available in the gîte.

Activities

We have recorded our more than 40 years of experience for our guests in a very clear, comprehensive and up-to-date information package.
After your booking, we will send you a comprehensive overview in preparation for your holiday. Below is a "short" summary:

Le Bugue.
Every Tuesday morning there is a "big market" in Le Bugue.

Cavern Bara-Bahau.
In Le Bugue itself, you can visit the Caverne Bara-Bahau. Still very authentic.

Gouffre de Proumeyssac.
This is a so-called (wet) crystal cave. Particularly fun to do on a weather-sensitive day or on a particularly hot day. Sensational!

Grotte de Lascaux.
Only scientists are allowed to visit this cave. Lascaux 2, however, is a perfect copy. Highly recommended!

Les Grottes du Roc de Gazelle.
This cave is particularly suitable to visit with children. The children are given questions/tasks.

Jacqou Parc:
A giant playground. Great with small children.

UNIVERLAND (various activities for young and old):

The AQUARIUM, climbing tower BIG BIRD, LABIRINT, LAZER-CITY, VIRTUAL REALITY GALAXY, GO KIDS PARC and AQUATIC LAGOON.
All these located Le Bugue and Journiac (öm the corner").

- The Aquarium: it is said that the aquarium gathers all species of fish found in European waters. There are also snakes and amphibians to admire.
- "The Big Bird" : 22m high with 75 climbing challenges: moving at height. Very nicely laid out for enthusiasts.
- Labyrinth: a prehistoric quest, looking for the last cro-magnon.
- Lazer-city: battle modern technology in a 1600m2 hall.
- VR-Galaxy: imagine yourself in the world among zombies and go into battle.
- Go Kids Park: an indoor playground with inflatables, slides, ball pools for little ones up to 10 years old.

MIDGETGOLF. Le Bugue
Next to the aquarium, a very playful jungle mini-golf course has been built on the left. You can buy a combination ticket at the aquarium.

VILLE BOURNAT. Le Bugue
Very suitable to do with children. You walk through a partially recreated old-fashioned French village including an old-fashioned fairground.
Various crafts are also practised.

CANOE RIDES:
Opportunities for canoe trips abound in the Le Bugue area.
The Dordogne from La Roque Gageac takes you past castles, cafes and parks.
The Vézère is a very gently flowing river. This cruise takes you through areas that are otherwise virtually off-limits to man. Peace and quiet and nature!

WALKING ROUTES.
The route to Gouffre de Proumeyssac (12 km) and Boucle Gorge d'Enfer (10 km) are particularly recommended and are ready for you in the Gîte.
Furthermore, there are numerous well-marked hiking trails in our immediate vicinity.

LES MILANDES.
Here stands the "Chateau" of JOSEPHINE BAKER. With headset in your language!
The rooms are all still in their original state. Outside, you can enjoy a falconry show and the beautiful garden! Again, highly recommended!

LA ROQUE GAGEAC.
Here on the banks of the Dordogne River there is an opportunity to take a motorised boat trip down this river in a truly beautiful setting. A very nice combination is this boat trip with a visit to the "Jardin de Marquesac" located above it.

CASTLES.
The Dordogne valley is also known as the valley of 1000 castles. In the documentation available for you in the gîte you will find the special ones.

PERIGUEUX.
The capital of the Dordogne. The cathedral of St Front towers over everything. There is a large market on Saturdays.
There is a little train that goes outside the old town to the Roman section.

SARLAT.
Sarlat's town centre has been almost completely restored. This makes Sarlat one of the most beautiful towns in France.
When walking through it: take a side street and be surprised!

BERGERAC.
A nice town that has become famous for its excellent wines, the tobacco industry (museum just outside the town) and of course Cyrano de Bergerac and his nose! A nice town to 'stroll' through and admire the half-timbered houses, among other things. Don't forget to enter "La maison des vins" with its beautiful courtyard.
