The house
Le Mazet is a charming, 4 star house typical to the Dordogne with honey-coloured stone walls, jasmine climbing up the walls, and breath-taking views from your private garden and from the sitting room to the 12th century church across the valley.
In the summer enjoy the garden with sun loungers, deck-chairs, BBQ and dining chairs and table with shade afforded by a huge oak tree or a parasol. In the cooler months, you can enjoy all the comforts Le Mazet affords you in front of a roaring fire in its sitting room. Le Mazet was renovated in 2016
Approached from the garden, Le Mazet has steps to the front door, which opens into the living room and open kitchen (36m²) on the upper ground floor. It is a sunny room, with deep-set windows on all four sides, a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and a large fireplace with a log burner. It has everything you need to relax – a comfortable sofa, dining table and chairs, satellite TV with English channels, DVD player, portable Bluetooth speaker and free WiFi.
There is a modern kitchen equipped to ensure an easy and enjoyable stay, with a dishwasher, oven, fridge, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster and kettle.
Steps lead down from the living room to the lower ground floor bedroom with an en suite bathroom. There is a kingsize bed, dressing table and chair, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The spacious bathroom has a walk-in shower, sink, toilet, washing machine and heated towel radiator.
Le Mazet has its own private sitting area with sun loungers, Weber charcoal barbecue, table and chairs for alfresco dining or to relax and read or enjoy a glass of wine. It has the benefit of sun from morning until evening due to its south-facing position. Relax amongst lavender, rosemary and fruit trees in the 2.5 acres of garden, enjoy the wildlife and birds, or dine out under the stars. There are unspoilt views over glorious countryside and to the 12th century village church.
We are delighted that Le Mazet has been awarded 4 stars by the Dordogne Perigord Tourist Board on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism. The classification is based on the facilities, space, state of the accommodation and information we offer guests. The Times included Le Mazet in their 50 Best French Holidays for 2019. The Daily Telegraph has been to stay in order to review us and awarded us 9/10.

Surroundings
Le Mazet is situated between the medieval towns of Monpazier and Beaumont du Périgord, only 40 minutes from Bergerac Airport. It is to be found in the South of the Dordogne, just far enough from the summer traffic jams in the Dordogne valley but close to the neighbouring counties of the Lot and the Lot and Garonne. The area has much to offer: castles, medieval fortified towns, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, weekly local markets, antique markets and night markets where the locals and tourists sit at long tables in the town squares and eat local specialities. There are also wine tours, prehistoric caves and much more to do.
It stands on top of a hill and has glorious, uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields, woods and the village. Our closest neighbours are 800m away, so you will have complete privacy.

Reviews
Andrew from Chichester,
We took our whole family to the Le Mas and Mazet and had a throughly excellent time from start to finish. The facilities available are second to none and Rupert and Frank went out of their way to ensure our family time together was extra special.
Their recommended private chef Didier is also worth considering if you want an extra special evening as we did on one occasion - the food was amazing.
Lots of lovely local places to visit to keep all ages entertained.
Brian from Essex,
I really enjoyed my stay at Le Mazet. It was very comfortable and provided everything I wanted. It is located in a very quiet attractive area near to some beautiful places to visit like Monpazier and Bergerac. The owners Rupert and Frank were extremely welcoming and helpful. I would unreservedly recommend Le Mazet as a great place to stay and explore the Dordogne region
Annabel from Ireland,
We have just returned from the most wonderful week at Le Mas and Le Mazet. It's not that we were trying to but we could not find one single fault. Rupert and Franck have clearly thought of everything - the beds are exceptionally comfortable, their restoration is remarkable, every angle and viewpoint is carefully considered and the views and pool are epic (I could go on and on). If you are looking for a relaxing haven amongst fascinating, beautiful countryside and with impeccable hosts then look no further.
Restaurants, food & wine
The area is known for its culinary wealth, there are lots of diverse restaurants around and about which offer great food.
If you want to cook yourself, there are lots of markets to go to. Furthermore there is a supermarket, bakery, pharmacy, bank, post office and lots of other shops to be found in Beaumont (12 minutes) or in Monpazier (15 minutres).
There is a huge amount of history around here - Monpazier and Beaumont were built by Edward I of England in the 13th century.
Activities
Here is a selection of activities you can do when at Le Mazet. We are more than happy to advise you on routes, rentals and directions, to make bookings for you, and to provide you with maps.
Gentle countryside walks
Enjoy country walks right on your doorstep, either through woodland and across fields or along the country lanes to the medieval village of Montferrand de Perigord (20 mins away) or to the 12th Century church at Sainte Croix (20 mins away). There are walks all around, for instance from Monpazier to the megaliths.
Hiking trails
There are nearby trails to suit everyone, from the Grand Randonnées such as GR36 and GR6, to circular walks (5km to 40km) around Monpazier which are signposted.
Bike hire
If you're not bringing your own bike, they can be hired from BikeHireDirect through us, who bring and collect the bikes/helmets/locks etc. to and from the property, giving a great service.
Cycling
The property is just off cycle route 26, a 70km loop to Monpazier, Cadouin and back. There are many other cycle routes nearby bringing you to the hidden gems of the Dordogne, away from the tourists.
Canoeing
You can rent canoes (1 to 4 people) in different locations, in the Dordogne or Vézère valleys. The rental company will meet you at the end with a minibus to bring you back to the start. Canoeing is a fantastic way of experiencing the beauty and grandeur of nature and the châteaux along the valleys.
Swimming in the river
You can swim in the Dordogne river at Le Buisson (25 mins drive) where there is a 800m-long, supervised beach.
Barge rides
You can take a barge along the Dordogne with châteaux perched high above you, from either Beynac or La Roque Gageac. Alternatively you can hop on a barge in Bergerac and hope to see herons, kites, kingfishers, cormorants, coypus and turtles.
Horseback riding
Local equestrian centres offer the opportunity to go horse riding - you might even imagine yourself as a Knight Templar in the Middle Ages!
Golf
There are several golf clubs where you can play: Lolivarie golf club (30 mins drive); Château les Merles (30 mins); and La Marterie (50 mins).
Markets
There are local markets in Beaumont on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and in Monpazier on Thursdays. There are extra markets in the mushroom and truffle season, and night markets in the summer.
Wine tours
The vineyards around Bergerac go all the way back to the Roman times and were then taken over and developed by the monasteries. There are wine routes, vineyards to visit and events. Everything you could possibly need to enjoy the great wines grown around Bergerac, like Monbazillac, Pecharmant, Saussignac and Montravel.
Concerts and festivities
There are regular concerts and festivities, often linked to Saints' days. Classical music in Paunat (beginning of August), live music at the night concerts where the locals dance the night away, and a Jazz festival in Bergerac in the month of May.
Night time guided tours by torchlight
In the summer, from around 9pm, take a torchlight guided tour in Monpazier, Beaumont du Périgord and Cadouin.
Guided tours during the day are also on offer.
Prehistoric sites
More than 50 caves and rock shelters, traces of settlement, burial places have been discovered in the Perigord. You can visit the National Prehistorical Museum in Les Eyzies, numerous caves and old settlements and of course the cave paintings at Lascaux.
Châteaux
There are reported to be 1001 châteaux in the Dordogne! The highlights are Biron, Beynac, Castelnaud with activities based on its collection of weaponary, and Milandes - the home of Josephine Baker which now hosts falconery in its gardens.
Gardens
There are two magical gardens worth visiting, if you have the time: the classical Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac and the hanging gardens of Marqueyssac.
Natural caves
The caves of Maxange (18km) are exceptional because of size and quality of their stalactites and stalagmites, and the eccentric crystalized panels which are remarkable.
Hot air ballooning
Montgolfière du Périgord just outside La Roque-Gageac (40km) arranges flights.
