Séchoir Dordogne

The house originated from an old tobacco barn (séchoir a tabac) around 1900. The area used to be known for its tobacco trade, and in this shed the leaves were hung out to dry. We bought it as a barn, inside you stood in the sand and looked directly at the roof tiles.

In 2015 and 2016 the barn was converted into a luxury holiday home. To obtain the necessary permits, it was appreciated to keep a similar appearance. Where there are now the high windows, there used to be shutters that were opened for drying.
With the exception of the shutters and the glass panes at the back, the entire barn is still there. This is still clearly visible in the rafter construction. Even the original wood is still there between the insulated interior wall and the new exterior cladding.

Inside, a concrete floor has been poured and a storey floor has been made of chestnut wood. To preserve the appearance of the high barn, two large voids were created. In addition to the characteristic elements, we also thought about practical matters. On the ground floor is the hall with staircase,
toilet and laundry room / utility room. The living room is divided into a dining area (beautiful open kitchen with loft) at the rear, a nice sitting room and TV corner at the front.
The floor is divided into 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets. All spaciously suitable for 6 persons.

In 2018 the swimming pool with the veranda was built, this makes staying here wonderful with the summer temperatures.

Trémolat is situated between the Perigord Pourpre and Perigord Noir (purple from the colour of the wine and black from the dark forests). Situated directly on the beautiful valley of the Dordogne. An idyllic location, from where you can discover the region.
The characteristic village (centre at about 300 metres walking distance) is small and cosy but known for its culinary cosiness. From a tasty pizza on the square to a culinary high level of the star restaurant Le Vieux Logis.

Trémolat is situated directly on the Dordogne River, (from the house less than 200 metres as the crow flies). Several sheltered spots give you the opportunity to sunbathe and swim. Just outside the centre is the Bassin Nautique where it is even possible to water-ski. For a 'real' beach experience you can go to nearby Limeuil.

Nearby are beautiful towns to visit like La Roque-Gageac, Le Bugue, Perigueux, Bergerac and Sarlat. An experience is also to go into the caves, gouffre de Lascaux, gouffre de Proumeyssac and gouffre de Rouffignac. Or do you imagine yourself in another century by visiting the castles of Beynac, 'Les Milandes' of Josephine Baker and Castelnaud? For the active challenge, you can cycle, walk, canoe, horse ride and play tennis in the area. For those who love golf, there are beautiful courses in the area. The most beautiful course, less than 30 minutes away, has to be La Marterie in Saint Felix de Reillac. Other beautiful courses in the area are Golf de Periquex and Lolivarie in Saint Germain de Belvès. For the children there is play park Jacqou nearby and Parc Le Bournat in Le Bugue, in addition there is a survival park about an hour's drive away:
Indian Forest at campsite Le Mondou. Furthermore, there are the weekly markets and the brocantes or vide-greniers. Especially the evening markets (marché nocturnes) are very popular and highly recommended. Here you will find not only fun, but also delicious food.

If you like to cook yourself, make use of the possibility to buy fresh truffles in winter on the market in Saint-Alvère, where the Perigord is famous for.

The house itself is in a secluded location, yet only 300 metres away from the centre. In the morning you can walk to the bakery for your fresh baguette and in the afternoon you can enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace.
