The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

The house was built two hundred years ago and was used as a small village shop (40 years) which sold bread, wine, meat and vegetables. It was completely renovated in 2007 and has a spacious lay out. There is a cosy kitchen and a balcony perfect for having breakfast and enjoying the view. From here you can take the stairs to the garden and the swimming pool. The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, 4 burner gas cooker with oven, fridge with freezer section, coffee maker and kettle and is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, glasses and cooking implements.. Adjacent is the dining room. On the same floor is the living room with TV (French) and fire place. At the entrance there is a cloaks cupboard and WC with basin. The second floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. There is a third bedroom which can be rented for 20 euros per night per person with en-suite shower room.

One of the bedrooms has a double bed with two mattresses and the other bedroom has two single beds. The house is well insulated, has double glazing and central heating.
The garden is divided into two parts: one part is fenced with laurel. The second part is a large lawn with six cherry trees. The guest who visit us in May or early June can pick cherries! The second part also has the swimming pool measuring 10 by 5.5 metres.

The village of Moulinet ( seven houses) is in department Lot et Garonne, 40 km south of Bergerac.
Here you will find space and peace and quiet. There are several leaflets with information about the area in the gite.
It is the region of hazelnuts and plum orchards. Driving on the quiet roads, between wheat-corn-and sunflower fields you can enjoy the beautiful panoramas.
For those who like to be active it is possible to make beautiful walks in the area. You can cycle along the Lot or visit ' Parc en Ciel' where you can walk and climb between the treetops on rope bridges. At Lougratte there is a recreational lake for swimming and boating. (9 km). At Casseneuil there is supervised boating, canoeing, boarding and lots of fun on the river Lot..
The nearby town of Cancon, 3 minutes away, on the N21, has a good Monday morning market, a mini-market, 2 bakers, two ATM/banks, a pharmacy, medical and veterinary services, a very good butcher/traiteur, 3 or 4 hairdressers, a florist, two hotels, 2 cafes, a pizza takeaway and a very good restaurant.
A larger supermarket is about 15 minutes driving in Castillonnes or in Villeneuve-sur-Lot ( 20 minutes)

Restaurants, food & wine

We are close to the vineyards of Bergerac, Bordeaux, Duras and Cahors. There are several wine chateau which you could visit. Bergerac has a wine museum and a wine house where you can taste and buy wines.
For a delicious meal you can go to one of the many cosy restaurants. In the gite we have a listing of restaurants in the neighboring towns.
The well known 'Foi gras', duck or goose liver, is sold in various locations and on markets.
There are weekly markets everywhere, the one on Sunday in Issigeac is certainly worth a visit and the local town of Cancon holds its market on Mondays.
During July and August the surrounding towns hold open air night markets where local producers provide excellent cooked meals and perhaps some entertainment. The closest are at Monflanquin and Montaut, just 15 minutes away.
