The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Welcome to our holiday home Le Hibou. This detached gîte is located on the small holiday domain Aux Martis, situated in the beautiful "campagne" of southwest France, on the border of the Lot-et-Garonne and the Dordogne. The kitchen, living room, bathroom and two bedrooms are on the ground floor, from the living room a staircase leads to the mezzanine where there is a third bedroom. These rooms are equipped with:

- Kitchen with dining table, a modern fitted kitchen with induction hob, hot air oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer, coffee maker, toaster, blender.
- Living room with sofa and armchairs. During the cold winter months you can enjoy the wood stove here
- Bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin
- Bedroom 1 with a 160x200 bed
- Bedroom 2 with two 90x200 beds
- Bedroom 3 (mezzanine) with one 90x200 bed

The Hibou is located at the end of an unpaved path. Along the terrace side, you are tucked among the large oak trees and have a view of the swimming pool below, in our own mini-valley. At the back of the house you look out over the surrounding fields, the curious cows occasionally come to watch, very cosy! The many trees around the house provide welcome shade and privacy in summer. Children can run around and play outside with peace of mind; we are at the end of the road which means no through traffic.

On request, we provide a cot and/or dining chair free of charge. The washing machine is shared and is located in a common room next to the campers' sanitary facilities.
Bed linen is always provided, adapted to the season. Bath linen is optional. There is a WIFI signal up to the cottage, but insufficient for streaming. However, there is stable 4G coverage. WIFI is provided at the reception (near the party room), you are welcome here at any time of the day.

The swimming pool is some 30 metres' walk from the cottage and is equipped with loungers, shaded areas and parasols. It is a shared pool: guests of the other gîtes and any campers from our mini-campsite also use it. The pool is open from mid-May to September, from 10am to 8pm each time.

We are located in south-west France, on the border of Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne. We are in the middle between the big cities of Bordeaux (160 km) and Toulouse (150 km). Closer by, you have Villeneuve-sur-Lot (25 km), Bergerac (45 km), Agen (55 km) and Cahors (80 km), among others.

Our region is known as the "Coeur de Bastide". Bastides are fortified towns built in the Middle Ages, mainly found in south-western France, and we are surrounded by some of the most famous bastides: Monflanquin, Villeréal and Monpazier. There are, of course, several other fairy-tale villages in the area worth visiting: Issigeac, Pays-de-Belvès, Pujols, Puy-l'Évêque, Sarlat-la-Canéda,...

Restaurants, food & wine

The vineyards of Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne are among the oldest in France. Together they produce no less than 19 AOC wines (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée), including the famous Monbazillac, Côtes de Bergerac, Côtes de Duras, Armagnac, etc. The Château de Monbazillac, with its vineyards around it, is some 40 kilometres from us and provides a fun and informative trail in and around the castle, concluding with a wine tasting. Besides the renowned wineries, of course, you also have many small-scale producers. At Domaine de la Tuque, just 10 kilometres from us and close to Biron Castle, some delicious organic wines are grown.

Activities

You can visit several authentic villages, bastides and castles in the immediate surroundings. On any day of the week, you can visit one of these villages for the weekly traditional market. In July and August, all kinds of events are organised (including "fêtes médiévales", "Bodéga", vide greniers, brocantes) and there are also evening markets where you can taste all the local delicacies, accompanied by music.

There are also some impressive caves to visit in the region. On both the Lot and Dordogne rivers you can canoe/kayak and there are great swimming spots. Around our property there are hiking trails, VTT (mountain bike) trails and cycling routes. .
