The house
At the foot of the Mont Aigoual, at the end of a charming valley, lies the beautiful hameau Ventilhac, consisting of a dozen restored old houses, strung together like a ribbon.
Our detached house Ventilhac (named after the hamlet) at the edge of the hamlet is the last house in the row. It is about 3 to 400 years old with thick natural stone walls.
The house consists of 2 separate houses: the part to be rented (the gite) by the lime tree (living area about 90 m2) and a later built new part, which is not rented.
The site has a wonderful fully equipped kitchen (with wood stove), adjacent to a large terrace where it is lovely to sit under the lime tree.
A large bedroom is located upstairs with a double bed (1.60m) and a single bed (0.80m). A second bedroom is located on the ground floor with a double bed (1.40m) and an adjoining shower/toilet room with washbasin.
Outside the high season it is very quiet and peaceful in Ventilhac (only one person lives there permanently). In the months of July and August it is lively and most of the houses are occupied.

The Ventilhac lodge is surrounded by a mixed deciduous forest of chestnuts and green oaks interspersed with agricultural terraces, and within walking distance of the house is the source of a bubbling river that provides refreshing coolness.
The hamlet is part of the village of Notre Dame de la Rouviere and in the immediate vicinity are numerous of these picturesque little villages in Romanesque style with lively markets where fresh local produce is available and where the annual festivals of the village are a delight to participate in.
The Gard offers a wide range of cultural and historical opportunities, as well as sea and beach at 60 km from the house and special attractions such as the steam train from St. Jean du Gard to Anduze, where the bamboo forest can be visited. In the river L'Herault you can swim and canoe and the caves in the area are definitely worth a visit.

Echt een aanrader. Wat een heerlijke plek en huis met veel rust in een prachtige omgeving waar heerlijk gewandeld kan worden en het nodige te zien is, zoals de magnifieke grotten Abime la Bramambiau en Des Demoiselles. Een prachtige rit brengt je naar de spectaculaire Gorge du Jonte en de Gorge du Tarn.
En last but not least, of te wel enfin en surtout, de prettige en gastvrije gastvrouw en gastheer, Paulette en Claude.

De gite van Paulette en Claude is als een oase. Heel erg verzorgd en rustig en Zuid-Frans. Het gehucht (hameau) Ventilhac ligt aan het einde van een groen dal. Er komt nauwelijks verkeer langs. Met een half uurtje lopen door het kastanje bos, kun je over de Zuidelijke Cevennen uitkijken. Het is een onderdompeling in de natuur, rust, wandelen, beekje om in te zwemmen, De Gite is rustiek, romantisch met dikke natuurstenen muren en een eigen terras in de schaduw onder de Lindenboom. Bijzonder mooi vakantieadres.

Restaurants in the immediate vicinity are plentiful; in the house book you will find more information about markets and brocantees in the surrounding villages.
Within a radius of 30 km you will find wine caves and domaines that will gladly let you taste their harvests.
Activities
Hiking trails lead you along streams, through beautiful villages, past vineyards, and after a hike up, the wide view is a well-deserved reward.
You can ride a donkey (for rent in our neighbouring village Corbiere), swim, cycle, ride horses, mountainbike, canoe, parapent, play golf, in short everything you can wish for.
