Activities
Cannes, on the Côte d'Azur is definitely worth a visit. So it is not for nothing that world-famous film stars flock here every year for the film festival: after all, the French Riviera is an excellent place to be. What was once a small town is now a luxury city with marinas and beautiful sandy beaches.
Le Suquet is the oldest part of Cannes, originally a medieval fishing village. The city centre is rich with romantic winding alleys and streets you can get lost in. You don't have to look long for nice restaurants here either. Rue Saint Antoine is home to several cosy restaurants and terraces where you can spend hours. In the evening it can get quite busy here, but it is a beautiful place to eat. Prefer a cheap lunch? Then head to Marche Forville market hall.
The Palais du Festivals is a very famous landmark located on Boulevard de la Croisette. Every year in May, this Cannes convention centre hosts the world-famous Cannes Film Festival. It is the place where the Golden Palm is awarded, a film prize given to the best film of the year. During this festival, the whole of Cannes is dominated by stars, films and actors.
The Palais du Festivals is very modern and exudes luxury. But of course, besides the film festival, other conferences and fairs are also held in this building. Also be sure to take a look in front of the building, as there is the famous square tiled with handprints of several famous stars. From Julie Andrews to Whoopi Goldberg and from Paul McCartney to Leonardo DiCaprio. And don't forget to pose like a real star on the steps of the Palais du Festival!
There are several shopping streets where you can go for well-known clothing brands and small boutiques. The most famous shopping streets are Rue d'Antibes and Rue Meynadier.
Do you want to let yourself go and prefer the luxury shops? For this, head to Boulevard de la Croisette where you can find big exclusive brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.
There are also several cosy markets in Cannes that are worth a visit. For example, every morning there is a market in the Forville market hall where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish.
Do you like to browse around an antique market? Every Saturday there is a flea market at the city's old port. Here you can stroll past the various stalls and rugs and enjoy the beautiful view of the port.
During the summer months, colourful parasols adorn Cannes' sandy beaches. Sunbathers enjoy the warmth and beach in classic French Riviera style.
Also in the surroundings of Cannes, some gems are hidden away. Take the ferry to the Lérins Islands, a perfect day trip, just 15 minutes away. The islands are rich in unspoilt nature with beautiful forests and several historical buildings. The nature, the views, the silence... it is breathtaking here.
