The house
Beautiful historic guard house in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux natural park in Provence. A car-free holiday. That is possible in your holiday home 'Plein Sud'. The holiday home Plein Sud is an old fortified house in the rempart of Gigondas. The house lies on the edge of the medieval village of Gigondas in the Vaucluse. Plein Sud is situated on a beautiful square opposite the 'espace culturelle'. The gite 'Plein Sud' is a charming, bright and sunny house. Really a picture where you always wanted to live or look inside. We picked out the furniture at brocantes. You enter the house in the cave where there is an exhibition room. This is a private entrance for our tenants. Some of our tenants are artists and can, if they rent the house, show their work in the exhibition room. A staircase leads to a mezzanine where the kitchen is. Another staircase leads to the living room with a view in all directions. There is a lived-in table and art hanging on the wall. A staircase leads to the second floor with a double bedroom. There is a bathroom with shower, washbasin, toilet and a view of the vineyards of the famous Gigondas wine. The house breathes the atmosphere of days gone by. In the most surprising places there are windows and the old fortress wall is still visible. A small balcony completes the house. Lounging in the sun can be done at the lavoir downstairs at the house. Lovers of good wine can indulge themselves in Gigondas. In the village you can taste and buy wine in one of the many wine cellars. You can visit a vineyard and make a beautiful 'route de vin' in the Cote du Rhone area.

The picturesque wine village of Gigondas lies at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range. A special mountain area with a relief that reminds of "lace" (dentelles). There are signposted walks here. From Plein Sud you can walk directly into this protected nature reserve. It is possible to make climbing trips in the Dentelles under the supervision of guides. This is organised by the tourist office of Gigondas. In Gigondas there is a permanent exhibition of sculptures in and around the restored chateau and the church. In the chateau is every year in August a music festival in cooperation with the Nice Opera. For more information: www.hautvaucluse.com Close to Gigondas are the medieval villages of Sablet and Seguret. You can walk to them and have a provincial lunch. In Seguret a large ceramics market is organised every year in August. Cezanne, van Gogh, Picasso and many other famous artists were not in Provence for nothing. The colours are irresistibly beautiful, as are the landscapes. Be inspired by the bright colours of Provence with its lavender and sunflower fields, the ochre quarries of 'Colorado' Rustrel and the ochre village of Roussillon. Not far away is the unique 'Village des Bories' (village of stacked stone houses), near the famous Gordes and the Cistercian abbey of Sénanque. Nearby you can visit the towns of Orange, Avignon and Vaison-la-Romaine. Van Gogh's residence, Arles with its espace van Gogh, is at half an hour's drive.
The colourful markets in the region are also worth a visit. There are several swimming pools and lakes in the vicinity to cool down. We can advise you on the spot where to go. In the house there is also an extensive folder with information about the area.
Would you like to holiday completely car-free: Gigondas can also be reached by public transport. By TGV via Paris to Avignon. Then the bus via Carpentras. Or with the TGV Brussels-South to Marseille (without changing in Paris). Or with Ryanair for a bargain price (euro 80.00) fly to Marseille and then take a taxi. A week in Provence is quickly booked. Long weekends are also negotiable outside the high season.

Gigondas is a Rhone wine with a premier Cru. In the village there are three caves where you can taste and, of course, buy this highly desirable wine. In Gigondas you can indulge in culinary delights in three restaurants. Eat out and then walk back to Plein Sud. A great place for a wonderful evening.
Activities
Cyclists and hikers will enjoy the surrounding area. The Mont Ventoux is the challenge of every cycling enthusiast. It is possible to make guided climbing tours in the Dentelles. This is organised by the tourist office of Gigondas. A music festival at the Chateau de Gigondas in August. Cultural trips, markets and beautiful trips along the lavender fields. A region to enjoy to the full.

Further remarks
A car-free holiday - is that still possible today? In Gigondas it is. The small and quiet village produces the famous wine Gigondas with a grand Cru. There are five caves where this wine is for sale. The wine also attracts the gourmands among us and there are now three restaurants with terrace. So, in the evening, it's great to eat out. Afterwards, you can walk home and enjoy the evening on the terrace. In the morning, around the corner at the epicerie, buy a baguette, croissant and a newspaper. In the afternoon, laze about in the shade, take a walk in the nature reserve or visit one of the surrounding villages. This is an unprecedented car-free luxury. All this topped off with the Provençal sunshine and you have the best recipe for true relaxation.

Nog nooit zo'n bijzonder vakantie huis gehuurd. Een soort bootvorm heeft de woning aan de buitenkant. Het balkon wordt vaak gefotografeerd. Wij waren de gelukkigen die binnen mochten wonen voor een week. Echt heel erg mooi opgeknapt en spannend met de keuken in de mooie cave ruimte. Lekker met een glaasje wijn bij de lavoir voor de deur in de koelte van het water. We wilden niet eens alle mooie plaatsen in de omgeving bekijken. Toch even gedaan natuurlijk. Maar in Gigondas was het prima toeven met de epicerie, de wijnhuizen en de restaurantjes om de hoek. Geweldig. We komen terug.

Een ideale plek om de Provence te verkennen. Gigondas is geweldig met allemaal restaurantjes en een prachtig dorp.
Het huis is schitterend. Heel spannend met de trappen en lekker licht en vrolijk. Ook een mooi uitzicht en een lekkere houtkachel. De keuken op de vide functioneerde prima. Bedden ok, douche lekker en de inrichting is leuk. In dit huis is het echt genieten. Wij waren reuze tevreden. Er zijn mooie wandelingen te maken en leuke fietstochten. De markten in de omgeving zijn een bezoek meer dan waard. En natuurlijk zijn we in Avignon en Arles geweest.
Een verrassende stek om nog eens terug te komen.

Prachtige 'stadsmuur'woning,
Dikke oude wanden met sierlijk omlijste ramen, authentieke luiken en een geweldig gewelfde kelder met daarin de keuken. De woning is stijlvol opgebouwd in etages elke etage zijn functie, eten, wonen, rusten. Voor de deur is, wat ooit de waterplaats was voor de paarden en ander vee een geweldige plek om te, ontbijten, in de middag te lunchen of 's avonds lekker te toeven met een goed glas wijn oid.
Midden in het dorp vindt je voldoende keuze aan restaurantjes en fijne terrasjes waar je niet alleen heerlijk kan eten maar waar de sfeer gemeend gastvrij is.
Gigondas is een welvarend wijndorp dat een ware merchandise van de wijnen van haar gebied niet schuwt. Dit neemt echter niets weg van de charme van het huisje en de rust die je er vindt.
Vanuit het huisje zijn er vele wandelroutes, zijn grotere plaatsen met brocante markten en gewone markten goed aan te rijden en heeft de eigenaar een mand vol tips en where-to-go folders voor je klaarliggen als je zelf even geen inspiratie hebt.
En grote TIP!! je kan in en om Gigondas bijna alle wijnboeren te voet bereiken en daar hun zalige godendranken proeven!
