Rent your holiday home in the department of Gers in Southern-France region Midi-Pyrénées, and enjoy the tranquility, space and sunshine. It is one of the most sparsely populated and most rural areas of Western Europe and the French department with the highest number of sunny days.

Explore authentic towns from your holiday cottage

From your holiday letting in the former province of Gascogne you can discover Three Musketeers’ country. Leader Charles de Montesquiou, the earl of  d’Artagnan, came from Auch. You can visit the Sainte-Marie cathedral, an important church in Southern France, in the capital of the department. Special are also the archeological and art collections in the Musée des Jacobins.

Culinary Gers

Holidaying in Gers certainly means enjoying its culinary delights. The ancient region of Armagnac is of course known for the famous brandy carrying the same name. In the museum in Condom you can learn about the production, and in nearby Château de Laressingle you can sample it.

At the lively evening market in Vic-Fezensac you can enjoy other treats from Gers such as Côtes de Gascogne, wild mushrooms, chicken, apples, melons, confits de canard and goose liver.

Walks from your vacation rental

The wooded hills and fields with wheat, corn and sunflowers will invite you for a stroll. Use the 14th century bastide Plaisance-du-Gers, in short Plaisance, as a starting point and follow the Circuit des Vignes for wonderful views on vineyards.

Or you can walk the pilgrim’s route to Santiago de Compostela through Gers. Pilgrims used to be welcomed in the enormous La Romieu church. The route between Lectoure and Condom, Chemin du Puy, is listed on the UNESCO world heritage list. The Marciac bastide, known for the international jazz festival, is the starting point for the Circuit des Champs.

Cycling through green Gers

Beautiful cycling routes can be found via route 5 Bastides et Chateaux from Eauze along Laressingle, Fourcès and Montréal where you can see the remains of the Gallo-Romeinse villa of Séviac. Beautiful bastilles can be admired in Cologne, Sarrant, Fleurance and Mirande. For children a trip with the Vélorail along the old railroad through the wine region is great fun. Unique in La Bastide-d’Armagnac is Notre Dame de Cyclistes. In this church you will see bikes and champion’s jerseys from well known cyclists such as Simpson, Merckx, Anquetil and Hinault.
