A warm welcome awaits you at The Old Farm of Amfreville B&B located near Saint Mere Eglise. A perfect location, for you to discover all the Normandy D-Day landing beaches, museums and so much more. Normandy is steeped in history, whatever your interests, there is something for everyone.
The Old Farm of Amfreville has been lovingly restored by husband and wife team, David and Alyson. They want to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The rooms have been furnished to a high standard – with comfort at the forefront of their minds. In addition, you can be sure of a thoroughly enjoyable breakfast in the morning. They also offer an evening meal, going that bit further than your average bed and breakfast.
David recently retired from the British Army, after 24 years as a military chef. So not only will he share your passion for military events and family ancestry – you can be sure that the attention to detail for breakfast and dinner is as it should be. Both David and Alyson, due to their local knowledge, will be on hand to assist with any enquiries with your itinerary during your stay.
After 5 years of renovation works, to lovingly restore The Old Farm of Amfreville, David and Alyson opened their doors to guests in 2019.
They are confident you will enjoy the tastefully decorated and well thought out rooms. With comfy beds, fine linens, fluffy towels, bathrobes and handmade soaps. Alyson has put a great deal of thought into the little touches and details – a place where they would want to stay as well as their guests.
Breakfast consists of fresh, traditional, local and homemade produce with freshly made waffles from the iron. What better way to start your day of exploring?!
Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy a book in the lovely courtyard, in one of the many seating areas, on a sunny afternoon. As the sun sets (Normandy has very little light pollution – you will be amazed at the stars!) feel free to cosy on up in front of the fire pit before retiring to bed.
The house is centrally heated and kept comfortable for you all year round. Enjoy the log burners in the living and dining room in the winter months. In the summer months, open your windows to the abundance of bird life that share the farm.

The Old Farm of Amfreville is situated at Cauquigny, just 4 km from the historic town of Sainte Mere Eglise, famous for where paratrooper John Steele was caught on the church spire and the location is central to where the majority of the airborne invasion began as relived on the famous television show ‘Band of Brothers‘
During the German occupation, the farm and its outbuildings housed a 91st Infantry Division officer and the 20 men under his command, who operated a field post office and communication center here.
Later it was used as a German field hospital temporarily during the battle of Normandy, until its liberation by the 82nd Airborne Division

Restaurants, food & wine

Evening meal is a set meal that changes daily.
There is no need to worry about going out for the evening, or booking a restaurant and driving home. It is nice to return “home” at the end of an exciting day and not set out again in quest of an evening meal, but to enjoy dinner in a friendly and casual atmosphere, whilst partaking in a glass of cider or wine

We will entice your palate with course after course of French cuisine, combined with David’s many years of experience as a chef and a passion for entertaining, we hope to make your evening special.

We are also pleased to offer to you the option of a picnic basket full of local and homemade produce at your request*. The picnic basket will come with everything you require to enjoy a lovely picnic whilst out exploring the beautiful sites of Normandy

Activities

Our French farmhouse is also the home of our cooking classes, where you can learn to cook traditional French dishes and serve great food in a fun relaxed and informal setting.

This four day course offers a truly unique personal experience, with “hands on” participation.

The cooking classes give a real insight into the seasonal local produce available in the area, giving a “good feel” for the array of Normandy produce that is available.

All lessons are held in the French style kitchen, using the provided equipment and cooked on the Everhot range cooker, enabling you to master the art of cooking on a range cooker.

The excursions and classes are run by David himself. David has over 26 years experience as a chef, having retired from the British Army where he was an chef for the duration of his military career. During this time he mastered his trade catering from the Private soldier to dignitaries, royalty and other VIP events.
