The house
Studio located on the west side of le Mas de St. Ferréol.
You reach the flat through a path to a private entrance. From the terrace in front of this spacious and comfortable flat you have a wide view of the mountains in the background. In the evening you can enjoy the beautiful colours of the sunset. The terrace is equipped with garden furniture and lighting. You can use the northern and western garden with fruit trees, the stone barbecue, trampoline, table tennis and petanque court.
In the months of July and August there is a large, round, above-ground swimming pool with a diameter of no less than 7.30 m and a depth of 1.30 m.

Between Vaucluse and Savoie, between Ardèche and Hautes Alpes lies Drôme, the land where Alps and Provence meet.
After the exit of the Autoroute du Soleil near Valence and past Crest with its donjon (the highest fortified tower in France), the Diois, the region around Die, the land of shepherds, sunflowers, lavender and vineyards unfolds.
This exceptionally beautiful landscape offers a thousand and one possibilities for lovers of nature, culture and outdoor sports such as canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hang-gliding, horseback riding.... and, of course, walking and cycling.
The area has countless roads and paths especially for walkers and cyclists. Towns and villages where time has sometimes literally stood still invite you to visit the local market, stroll through the quiet streets or enjoy a drink on one of the terraces. A fantastic mix of nature, culture and opportunities to be active.
But the Drôme offers more. There is the rough Vercors, one big nature monument full of waterfalls, caves and gorges; Les Baronnies with its olives, nuts, all kinds of fruit and cities like Nyons and Vaison-la-Romaine, Tricastin full of vineyards and castles. Beautiful villages like le Poët Laval, Saou, Bourdeaux and Dieulefit; the Mont Ventoux which forms the border between Drôme and Provence. Cities such as Valence and Montelimar are worth visiting, while Orange and Avignon are also within reach for a cultural daytrip or just a relaxing day out.

Markets:
Die: Wednesday and Saturday mornings large, cosy market that can be quite busy in high season. There are large car parks around the centre.
Châtillon: Friday morning a smaller but also very pleasant market.
Restaurants:
Outside the high season not all restaurants are open. During the high season it is wise to make reservations.

Restaurant Le Caveau, at the start of the village, with attractive terrace.

L'Aubergerie, small idyllic auberge with pleasant service and good food. Tel. 04 75 21 82 13. Barnave lies a few kilometres south of Pont de Quart.
Wine tastings:
Almost nowhere in France is wine grown at such an altitude as in Châtillon; just over 500 metres. Since 1975, the region has two appellations of its own for red and white wine. In order to sell his wine, it is very common for the winegrower to first let the customers taste the different wines he has to offer. Often, a cave or winery has a tasting room.
Châtillon:
Le Maupas, about 1 km. outside the village on the south side. Chic cave where you can taste the various special wines from Châtillon. The white Chardonnay is often very good.
Saint Roman:
Didier Cornillon, coming from Châtillon on the left side of the road, nice Cave. In the summer every Friday afternoon a small Marché Champestre is organised where you can buy local products and eat soup for example.

Small Cave with a very enthusiastic owner. He only speaks French.
That one:
Cave Jaillance, route de Valence (opposite the Intermarché). Large Cave, very touristic, specialised in Clairette, where you can buy several wines. Also a small museum.

In the beautiful surroundings of Saint-Ferréol you will not be bored for a single moment. Here are just a few of the possibilities:
Hiking
For walkers, there is much to enjoy. Just between the fields of sunflowers and lavender in the valleys or via marked routes in the mountains.
Cycling
The varied landscape lends itself perfectly to making cycling trips; also the sporty cyclist can enjoy himself on the cols in the area. Bicycle maps and mountain bike guides are available at the tourist office in Châtillon-en-Diois.
Swimming
Le Mas de Saint-Ferréol has a large swimming pool at its disposal in July and August.
Châtillon-en-Diois has a large swimming pool. If you want to enjoy natural water you can go to the numerous beaches of the different rivers.
The Bez, at a stone's throw from your flat, the Drôme or the Roanne, which, a bit further from home, finds its way high up in the mountains between large white rocks and boulders.
Rafting/canoeing
The river Drôme offers many possibilities for rafting and canoeing.
Canyoning
From the tourist office in Châtillon, spectacular canyoning trips are organised in the Gorges des Gats. A unique experience.
Waterfalls and caves
The beautiful nature reserve of the Vercors has many impressive waterfalls, including the 70 metre high Chûte de la Druise. Also the beautiful caves of Choranche are not to be missed.
Cities and villages
Châtillon-en-Diois, a picturesque medieval village, is certainly worth a visit. During the traditional 'fête des arts et de vignes' in August, you will imagine yourself to be in the Middle Ages.
Die, known for the famous wine Clairette de Die, has pleasant terraces and on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a large, atmospheric market.
Crest, with the largest fortified tower of France and the annual jazz festival.
Valence, capital of the Drôme.
Montélimar, city of nougat.
Avignon with its bridge, the Pope's palace and the cultural festival during the whole month of July.

Vermoeid na een lange rit door het Franse land werden we hartelijk ontvangen door Ed en Els. Daarna lekker genieten van de ondergaande zon op het terrasje voor de gezellig ingerichte studio. Wat een rust. 's Morgens ontbijten lekker in de zon. Wandelen en toeren in de mooie omgeving van de Drôme. Eten of een espresso in het vlakbij gelegen Chatillon. Gezellig naar de markt in Die. Het zwembad in om even af te koelen en 's avonds lekker eten op de nabijgelegen camping. De week vliegt om. Kortom een plek om weer eens naar terug te gaan.Raatgever from Scherpenzeel,
We hebben enorm genoten tijdens onze vakantie bij Le Mas de Saint-Ferréol, de tijd is omgevlogen. Het is een schitterende en gevarieerde omgeving, fijn huis (studio) met daarbij een hartelijk en gastvrij ontvangst van de eigenaren. Het zwembad was echt een aanwinst om even lekker af te koelen. Kortom een plekje om nog eens naar terug te gaan.

Met mijn zus, samen bij Els en Ed in Frankrijk. Wat hebben we genoten. Een mooi appartement met een groot balkon waar het heerlijk toeven was.
Een prachtige omgeving, waar Els en Ed heel enthousiast over kunnen vertellen en waardoor wij op hele mooie plekjes zijn geweest. Toen ik onverwacht naar het ziekenhuis moest, is Ed zelfs met ons meegegaan en heeft fantastisch getolkt. Kortom, gastvrije mensen, een mooi huis en een prachtige omgeving. Daar komen wij nog wel een keer terug!
