The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Granary is a charming Breton cottage dating from the middle of the 19th century. It is one of our 2 family sized gîtes which can sleep up to 6 people in its 3 bedrooms.
It has been decorated and refurbished in a tasteful beach style and includes everything required to have a relaxed and comfortable self-catering holiday. Wifi is available throughout the house.
The house has 3 floors. The ground floor has a fully equipped kitchen with a range cooker including 2 electric ovens, gas hob and microwave, It has a large sink, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine (guests have access to a tumble dryer in one of our communal spaces). Also on the ground floor is a family dining area with separate seating space and wood burning stove. The family bathroom with sink, toilet, bath and over-bath shower is also on the ground floor.
The first floor has a large lounge with seating for 6 people which has a television (with English and French TV), DVD player and Bluetooth capable stereo. The master bedroom with king-sized bed and adjoining bathroom is also on the first floor.
On the second floor is a twin and a separate double bedroom.

We are located in the village of Saint Cadou which is itself in the Parc Naturel d'Armorique which is part of the Monts D'Arrée.
We are equidistant from the north and west coasts of Finistère, and the south coast is just a little further. All of Finistère is easily accessible from our location which enables you to have a varied holiday, not have to live within the huge crowds and traffic at the beach 'resorts', and do something different every day depending on which direction you want to head and what the Breton weather decides to do!

    Comment from Ben Dickins

Restaurants, food & wine

Despite being in rural France, we are very fortunate that we have a pub and boulangerie in our village. Our nearest market town, Sizun, is 7 kms away and has all the basic services (supermarket, bakeries, cafe / tabac, pharmacy, bank, doctors, restaurants etc).
We have many excellent restaurants near to us. The closest is 2 kms from us on the bank of the Lac du Drennec with fabulous views over the lake which gets amazing sunsets. The menu is fresh and seasonal often with a Thai or Asiatic twist. This restaurant is only open between April and September.
Sizun and other local villages have a number of other restaurants and eateries including some of our favourites:
Auberge du Menez in the neighbouring village of Saint Rivoal (5 kms) which has an excellent menu of locally sourced food;
La Faincerie on the estuary at Daoulas (20 mins) in a beautifully renovated pottery factory. Their menu is fantastic and changes often;
Auberge de Saint Thegonnec in the village of Saint Thegonnec (20 mins) Semi-gastronomic restaurant with a good wine selection;
Les Jardins des Sauveurs in Landerneau (20 mins) in a fashionable 19th century town house.
Being Brittany there are countless creperies serving excellent crepes and savoury gallettes.
The region is very proud of its food and agriculture, especially organic farming, and there are many fabulous markets near us throughout the week selling amazing local produce.

Activities

We are located in the small village of Saint Cadou in the centre of the natural park of Armorique and the Monts D'Arrée. As such it is a fabulous area for walking, hiking and mountain biking / VTT (we have mountain bikes that our guests can use free of charge).
We are 2 kms away from the beautiful Lac du Drennec, an artificial reservoir with 2 beaches. Having fresh water and no large waves it is ideal for families with young children - and is always warmer than the sea! The lake has a watersports centre where you can canoe, sail and paddleboard and the lake itself has an excellent reputation for trout fishing.
We are almost equidistant from the north, west and south coasts of Finistère each with their own special character and charm. There are countless fabulous beaches (pebble, sand, small and large) within an hour of us, the closest being 35 minutes. Many are very shallow sloped so you can walk / swim out a long way and still be well within your depth.
Being centrally located in the departement, ,many of the interesting and historic villages, towns and cities are easily accessible.
