La Chaumière gîte is set in a quiet rural setting, surrounded by fields and woods, but is less than 15 minutes' walk from the pretty village of Ploërdut, with a bakery, small shop, two restaurants and two bars. It has a local farmers' market on Fridays (bread, crêpes, cider, vegetables, poultry.......).
We are surrounded by picturesque medieval towns and villages, with ancient chapels and pleasant restaurants. The nearby town of Guémené sur Scorff (10 minutes' drive) has recently been designated a "Petite Cité de Caractère". It is famous for its andouille sausage and thousands of people come here every August for the andouille festival.

Lac de Priziac is just a 10-minute drive away, with a small sandy beach, play area, picnic tables and a café/restaurant open during the summer months. The lake is a popular spot for kayaking, sailing and fishing and is surrounded by a walking trail and fitness trail. There are several other lakes within 20 minutes' drive of Guebernez, while Brittany's largest lake, Lac de Guerledan, is 30 minutes away with several sandy beaches, restaurants, cafes and walking and cycling trails.

The Blavet valley 30 minutes from Guebernez Activities, discovery, hiking, leisure park Père Nicolas electric boat trip....

Les roches du Diable, la forêt de huelgoat .....

Beaches: the vast, beautiful sandy beaches of the Morbihan coast are just a 40-minute drive away. A little further afield are Brittany's best-known seaside resorts: Carnac with its famous megalithic sites, Concarneau with its fortified town, the Quiberon peninsula and the bustling port city of Vannes. In between are dozens of superb beaches, some with sand dunes and others with rocky coves and basins.
The Islands
Take a boat from Lorient, Quiberon or Vannes to the islands of the Golfe du Morbihan. Ile de Groix, Ile d'Arz, Ile aux Moines and other islands are all easily accessible on a day trip and are popular for their picturesque coastal walks, beaches, small fishing villages and natural beauty.

We have had a fantastic stay at the lovely gite Chaumière. Above all were Murielle & François the best & friendliest hosts. They celebrated our son’s birthday (with a present!), invited us for a lovely dinner, helped us with our broken car, and were so nice and warm for us and our boys!
Plus, the house has really everything you need. The beds are also great. Further, the views, the pool, the game hall and everything you need to have a wonderful vacation with children! All the best :-)

Restaurants, food & wine

Just a short walk away is the charming village of Ploerdut, with its bakery, two bars, two restaurants, one of which is very popular for lunch, all set around a pretty church square. The restaurant and bar, Chez Marie Thé, is the focal point of the village, attracting locals and tourists alike for its simple but hearty lunches costing just €14 for three courses and wine.
We can recommend a number of family-run restaurants nearby. In nearby Guémené sur Scorff, the Auberge des Trois Marchands is considered to be one of the oldest inns in Brittany, while the bistro Aux Sabots Rouges is fast becoming another good place to eat.
Enjoy seafood, especially oysters, scallops and lobsters, in one of the many restaurants along the coast. If you love oysters, don't miss a day trip to the Belon estuary, where you can buy fresh oysters and eat them by the water with crusty bread and a glass of wine.
The region is famous for its traditional crêpes and galettes (savoury pancakes), washed down with a cup of Breton apple cider. The town of Quimper (1 hour's drive) has dozens of crêperies dotted around pretty cobbled squares.
Brittany hosts a year-round programme of festivals, from a night of moules frites in the local village to the famous annual Celtic music festival in Lorient. One of the region's most spectacular events is the Son et Lumière, held on 15 August at the Abbaye de Bon Repos, on the shores of Lake Guerledan, a 30-minute drive from Guebernez. With the ruins of the abbey as a backdrop, the story of Brittany is told with the help of 400 actors, horses, cattle, dogs and a breathtaking stage, lighting and sound effects. It's a show not to be missed.

Activities

Hiking
This part of Brittany is perfect for walkers, who come to explore the magnificent Morbihan coastline, countryside, lakes, rivers, canals, forests, ancient chapels and medieval towns and villages. There are many beautiful walks, some of which have signposted routes. The quiet lanes around Guebernez are also perfect for running.
Cycling
This part of the country is well equipped for the sport, with open roads for running, canal and riverside routes for gentle cycling, and greenways for mountain biking. Bring your own bikes. Ploërdut hosts a number of cycle races throughout the summer and every three years the Tour de France passes nearby.
Water sports
Surrounded on three sides by the sea, dotted with lakes and criss-crossed by canals, Brittany is a prime destination for water sports. Some of the best fishing schools in France can be found on the Morbihan coast. At nearby Lac de Priziac and Lac de Guerledan, you can hire canoes, kayaks, water skis, pedalos and sailboats, and take lessons too. The Canal de Nantes à Brest is a popular spot for canoeing and kayaking. It passes through some of Brittany's most beautiful towns and villages. Brittany is an excellent fishing region, both on the coast and in rural areas.
Art and culture
Art lovers should head for Pont Aven (1 hour) or St Goustan in Auray (50 minutes), famous for their galleries. Pont Aven was a favourite haunt of the post-impressionist painter Paul Gauguin. He founded an art school here and the town's Musée des Beaux-Arts exhibits his work alongside exhibitions of modern art.
