The house
One hour driving from the south-Belgian border and about 350 km from Calais, you will find this comfortable detached holiday house laying in the valley of the river La Buante. The house has a new kitchen. This is the quiet countryside of north France in the region Argonne. You can enjoy here the very dark nights, the clean air and the silence. The house has a large living room and a large bedroom. Next to the bedroom you find the bathroom with a toilet, shower and a sink,
The living room is 40m2, The kitchen and bedroom are both 20m2. There is a new double bed 1.60 x 2.00m and in de the living room you find a sofa bed of 1.40 x 2.00 m. provided for 2 extra personnes with some extra charge.
The kitchen is provided with a dishwasher, a microwave oven, a Samsung fridge-freezer, a stove and Senseo coffee-machine.
From the living room and from the kitchen you can reach the garden with terrace and with a view at the small river and the meadows with cows.

At the very small village Cheppy with 136 inh. you have a wonderful view up to the hills surrounding the house. The village is situated in the Meuse, very close to the Champagne-Ardenne and Marne. Only 10 meters from the house is a little rippling river called La Buante.
There is a separate garden round the house with its own car parking place and your have a direct entrance to the river from your garden. The owners lives close next to the house.
Only 2 kilometers from the house you find a village named Varennes-en-Argonne with an authentic french bakery, a supermarket, a gas station, a restaurant and a hotel. There is also a museum with information about the region Argonne.
There are many memories about the first WW (14-18) in the region Argonne. Verdun is at 30 kilometers from Cheppy and the city of Reims is 100 kilometers away.

Fijn en schoon huis op een prachtige lokatie aan een stromende beek. Veel klein vee om het huis, prachtig.
Fietsen viel tegen aangezien het toch behoorlijke heuvels zijnJohn van der meer from Leusden,
Yan en Emile zijn attente en gezellige gastheren bij aankomst lag er stokbrood, kaas en eigen gemaakte jam op de keukentafel en in de koelkast stond een fles wijn en water.
La Forge is sfeervolle huisje in een mooie, rustige omgeving waarvan de tuin grenst aan een riviertje . Aangezien het een warme week was, 30 graden of meer, hebben we een luie vakantie gehad en extra genoten van de heerlijke tuin. We komen zeker nog eens terug en hopen dan vaker lange wandelingen te maken en de omgeving meer te verkennen.Marianne Klazen from Amsterdam,

Van meet af aan persoonlijk contact met 2 lieve gastheren, die een op alle terreinen heel goed uitgeruste gîte bieden, prima bed, keuken, badkamer, heerlijke romantische tuin met veel privacy aan de Buante.
Supermarkt op 2 km.
Prachtige omgeving van glooiende graanvelden, velden met zonnebloemen, heerlijke koele bossen met veel varens, kleine typisch Franse dorpen langs landelijke binnenwegen.
En op heel prettige afstand van Nederland. Aanrader!
Restaurants, food & wine
There are some restaurants in the neighborhood,
The monument of Montfaucon is enormous. In the woods of Chevauchée you will find in the open air the remains of the battle of the first Worldwar. There is a great view at the top of the memorial of Vauquois near to Cheppy.
Visit in Reims the famous champagne houses and of course the cathedral of Jeanne d'Arc.
Activities
You can visit a lot of places within one hour traveling by car which gives a good impression of this historical ground. F.i. the largest American war cemetery of WW I in Europe is situated in Romagne-sous-Montfaucon (about 14.000 soldiers).
You can walk freely in the garden of the owners (1.8 ha) and enjoy picking fruits in spring, summer and autumn. The animals of the owners (chickens, peacocks, small sheep and two border collies) are freely around the garden. In the season it is possible to get fresh eggs from our chickens!
In the river is fishing possible with a french fishing license.
Further remarks
The region of Argonne is a rich nature reserve with wild pigs, deer and wild cat. There is a various wild life of birds in the garden and the sky you see the birds of prey . Twice a year you can enjoy the bird migration of thousands of cranes, right above the house. Or visit the remarkable reservoirs of Lac du Der where the cranes will rest during there migration in spring and autumn with tens of thousands at the same time.

Heating in every room is provided by electric radiators. Extreme use of electricity can bring extra costs.
In the living room there is a fireplace. The wood is provided free by the owners.
