The house
Welcome to La Garenterie, peace and tranquility in the countryside.
The house is bright and airy with lots of space for a family get together, friends and kids to explore. The private above ground pool is available for all bookings between June and 1st September unless we have a heatwave of course!
There are 3 bright and airy double bedrooms furnished to a high standard with fresh crisp linen and views of the fields and gardens. One of the double bedrooms can be used as a family room with an additional 2 low single beds to sleep younger children. There is a family bathroom and another toilet downstairs.
The spacious bright kitchen has a large dining area and seats 8 people comfortably. There is a microwave, range, kettle and toaster. The cupboards are well equipped for cooking and there is a BBQ outside.
The sitting room has big comfortable retro sofas and tv with English Freeview that looks out on to your private garden.
The house has been fully restored and is a mix of classic French style and fresh clean furnishings. We can supply all the kids extras to save packing - travel cot, night lights, baby bath, sink steps, toilet booster seats and high chair - just ask!
We live in the adjoining barn so should you need anything we are on hand...otherwise you shouldn't know we're around as your privacy is very important to us.

La Garenterie sits in 4 acres of land surrounded by farmland. We live in the adjoining barn and there is, what was once, a 14th century manor house in the garden! Cattle graze and there is an abundance of wildlife - bird spotting is great as there are so many birds of prey and various species sharing our gardens, including owls and bats! The house is a 10 minute drive away from Tinchebray where you will find a large supermarket, bank, cafes and patisserie. The beautiful market town of Vire is only 20 minutes away. The large town of Caen is 1 hour away as are the pretty coastal resorts and D Day beaches.

Wat een mooi huis en wat een aardige eigenaren. Het huis was brandschoon en heel ruim. De slaapkamers hadden goede bedden. In het huis was alles wat je nodig zou kunnen hebben aanwezig. Het zwembad was fijn.
Het is er heerlijk rustig en de omgeving is erg mooi. Fijn om hier bij te komen van alle drukte in hectische tijden.

Het begon met een hartelijk ontvangst. Het huis is ruim en erg netjes. Van alles voorzien. Belangrijkste (voor ons) is de rust en privacy. Die is hier optimaal. Heerlijk, ontspannen genieten en als het warm is, een lekker afkoelende duik in het zwembad. Dank je wel, Nathalie en Dan voor een heel fijne week

We hebben een week lang genoten van de gastvrijheid van Nathalie en Dan, het ruime huis dat van alle gemakken was voorzien, het heerlijke zwembad en de prachtige omgeving. Echt een plek om terug te komen, een aanrader dus!
Restaurants, food & wine
Vire, Sourdeval, Flers and Tinchebray all have cafes, restaurants and local artisan shops including patisserie, boulangerie and charcuteries. The village of Bernieres le Patry has one small shop selling fresh bread and patisserie every day except Mondays.
Activities
The pretty market town of Vire is a 15 minute drive away where you will find the closest supermarkets, boulangerie, patisserie, bars and cafes, all surrounding the beautiful castle remains. Market day is Friday and you'll find all sorts of lovely food and bargains here. There are some lovely cafes to sit and watch the world go by. You will also find the swimming pool in Vire with indoor and outdoor water slides and a family pool for youngsters and it is very well priced. You will also find a municipal golf course and the stunning Lac Dathee just outside of Vire too.
The D day landing beaches and coastal resorts such as Granville, Houlgate, Brehal and Carrolles (amazing rock pooling for kids) are all just over an hours drive away. Bayeux, Mont Saint Michael and the British War Cemetery are also within an hour’s drive.
If you want to explore beautiful scenery then the area of Suisse Normand and Bagnoles de Lorne are both within an hours drive. This is a favourite for hikers and bikers!
Much closer to home you will find Mont Cerissy Belle Etoille which is only 15 minutes away. Great fun for all the family (or just adults who like a view point) - a stunning park and wood land set around castle ruins it has beautiful woodland walks and view points with stunning scenery of Normandy. Take a picnic and hang out for the day as the French do!
You can have lunch on the river in Pont D'ouilly 40 minutes away where you can watch (or hire) a kaiak for the river run.
Viaduc de Souleuvre is only half an hour away offering beautiful scenery and adrenaline activities like bunjy, luge and forest swings. They have a lovely playground and sensory woodland walk for toddlers here too. There is a train you can hitch a ride down or up on! Great pizzas are available in the cafe at the bottom.
'Bayeux adventure' is an amazing park for all ages and it's biggest attractions are the zorbing balls and tree top climb with zip wires and rope ladders.
The Zoo de Jurques is about 40 minutes away. It's an amazing conservation and educational zoo set within a forest and is a great family day out. It does not feel like you are in a zoo! The cafe is well priced and they also have playgrounds.
If you just want to kick back and relax then this is the place to do so. The odd tractor will pass and the cows may be nosy but apart from that all you will hear is the wildlife - birds of prey, owls, bats, an abundance of bugs and butterflies, horses and donkeys.
The closest supermarket is in Tinchebray or Vire, both within 15 minutes. Our village shop sells fresh bread and patisserie daily, apart from Monday. You will need your car for a quick 3 minute journey.
A car is essential for food shopping and exploring unless you're here for the local cycling routes!
There is secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes and plenty of parking for you all.

Further remarks
Shops do not open on a Sunday so please come prepared when you arrive on Saturday. Supermarkets are open until 7.30pm on a Saturday.
Some shops close between midday and 2pm - some large supermarkets remain open.

French stay/tourist tax 'take de sejour' is charged at 0,60 centimes per adult, per night and collected during your stay..
Beach towels are available for outdoor pool use free of charge.
Wood and pellets for the fires (during winter lets only) is not included although the first box is complimentary! Bags of wood and pellets are charged at the cost price of 7euros.
