The house
In "La Gymnopédie", a spacious, completely detached villa, everything has been done to make your stay as pleasant as possible: A very well equipped kitchen with Miele dishwasher, oven and Miele microwave, in open connection with the spacious living kitchen with lovely fireplace, utility room with Miele washer and dryer, cosy lounge with wood stove, colour TV with DVB reception, comfortable, spacious bedrooms with top quality beds (2x double/2x single), good bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet, 2nd toilet on ground floor. The house has a lovely garden (sun all day) with good garden furniture, sun beds and bbq. It stays cool in the summer because of the location of the house and the very thick walls. The whole house has oil-filled radiators and all windows are double glazed, so it is also pleasant to stay in winter time.

Ménil-Vin is a small village on the river La Baize in the middle of the sloping valleys that are so characteristic for Normandy. Quietly situated, with very diverse scenery (forest, rivers, dam) there are many possibilities for lovely walks, mountain bike or bicycle tours (fitness required!) or for example picnics at a river bed or beach.
Perfectly situated for a visit to Normandy places like the fortified town of Falaise with the castle of William the Conqueror, Caen (the French Leiden), Pont d'Ouilly where the river Orne flows through (canoeing!), Domfront and Flers, while the Atlantic coast can be reached in about 45 minutes (for sunbathing or a visit to the invasion beaches). A visit to Le Roche d'Oêtre is also recommended (if you are not afraid of heights), where fantastic walks can be made and exciting tree trips can be undertaken for the children.
Our tastefully restored house is situated at the edge of the village Ménil-Vin, almost on the border of the regions Orne and Calvados.

Heerlijk huis in een prachtige omgeving. Prachtige wandel routes en vlakbij de rivier. Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien. Met een zeer grote tuin. Een aanrader is het stadje Falais op 10 minuten rijden waar je een tal van restaurants hebt waar je zalig kunt eten. Gezellige locale markten in de omgeving. Menil-vin is een klein dorpje maar het is zeer de moeite waard om de omgeving te ontdekken. Bij aankomst word je vriendelijk ontvangen! Wij hebben 2 heerlijke weken gehad. Bij reservering krijg je zeer snel bericht met een uitgebreide beschrijving van omgeving en bezienswaardigheden. Zeer de moeite waard !

Wij waren een volle week te gast in Satie's heerlijke La Gymnopédie. Zijn zaakwaarnemer Harmen van Urk heeft er een zeer persoonlijk onderkomen van gemaakt met oog voor détail. Van de bakelieten lichtschakelaars tot en met de porseleinen deurknoppen en de antieke voordeur lantaarn. De keuken is eenvoudig maar volledig uitgerust en de gemakken van de moderne tijd zijn terug te vinden in het goed geoutilleerde 'machinepark' met (af)wasmachine, droger, diverse koffiezetapparaten, magnetron en oven(tje). Aangevuld met de fijne bedden met koudschuim matras, de heerlijke douche met ruimhartige waterdruk en de gezellige woonkamer in het hart van de woning. Voor gezinnen met kinderen is er een ruime keuze uit spelletjes en (voorlees-)boeken. De omgeving is rustig, het is bijna onaards stil op de enkele passerende tractor na. De kerkklokken zorgen ervoor dat je bij de tijd blijft en de omgeving is -ook in de late zomer- heerlijk. Naast de plaatsjes in de omgeving is Caen een aanrader, met kunst en cultuur maar ook met heerlijke eetadressen. Er is ook een handig geplastificeerde voorraad wandelkaarten in de directe omgeving op voorraad. Kortom wij hebben met onze labrador Willem een heerlijk verblijf genoten. Josje en Albert Bek

Heerlijk huis, van alle gemakken voorzien, goed schoongemaakt en sfeervol ingericht. Wij hebben hier een heerlijke week vakantie gehad. De eigenaar, Harm, reageert snel op mailtjes/ vragen en stuurt je o.a. ook een lijst van alle bezienswaardigheden in de omgeving, tips voor wandelingen en bijvoorbeeld een heerlijk zwemmeer in de buurt.
De omgeving is prachtig, mooie landschappen en dorpjes. Lekker rustig ook. Aanrader!
Restaurants, food & wine
There is an abundance of restaurants to choose from. You notice that you are still close to the sea, because on every menu you will find something with "fruits de mer". Also the markets of Caen (Sunday), St. Pierres-sur-Dives (Monday) and Falaise (Saturday) are very worthwhile, you can buy all kinds of local products: cheeses, crème fraiche, fish, (organic) meat, poiré, pommeau, calvados.

Many activities are possible. In the house you will find brochures on all kinds of subjects; also (plastified) walking routes are available for you. An extensive brochure about Normandy will be sent to you.
