The house
La Mirabelle has an L-shaped ground floor of 52m2, with a large dining room and open-plan fitted kitchen (35m2), a lounge area (17m2 with 2 TV sofas, DVD player, smartphone base), a double bedroom (plus 1 cot) and a shower room with WC.
Also on the ground floor, a double bedroom (plus 1 cot) and a shower room with WC.
Upstairs, 2 other bedrooms (1 with a double bed, the second with 3 single beds + 1 cot), a bathroom with bath and WC.
The gîte is equipped for young children (games, toys, books, DVD, baby phone, nightlight, high chair, booster seat, baby bath etc.).
The gîte has its own private terrace not overlooked (garden table and chairs with barbecue) and is set in a magnificent private park with trees and flowers (7000 m2). The fenced-in, secure swimming pool is located in the grounds and is shared with the other 2 gîtes on the site. Please note that the pool is not heated, but with the sunshine it enjoys, you can enjoy it from mid-May or earlier, depending on the weather.

La Mirabelle is set in private grounds (7000m2) and has its own private terrace, not overlooked, with garden furniture and barbecue. It is located in the small hamlet of Phiolin, less than a kilometre from the village and its well-stocked mini-market. In the grounds, you'll find play areas for children and relaxation for adults, a boules pitch and a secure swimming pool to share with any occupants of the other 2 gîtes.
The surrounding countryside is peaceful, mainly vineyards and sunflower fields, with quiet roads ideal for cycling (bicycles are available).
Charente-Maritime is much appreciated for its many hours of sunshine, its magnificent sandy beaches (only 30 minutes away by car) and its wealth of activities (wine, sports, thermal baths, cultural activities), all of which we will be delighted to advise you on!

We had a wonderful holiday here! Valérie and her husband made us feel very welcome and did everything to make our stay a succes. We enjoyed the beautiful garden and our wonderful shady private garden. Our daughter April (7 years old) was completely in love with the swimming pool and played there with some children that were in the other gites. Also there were some very nice play options in the garden. Really wonderful! The house itself was very nice downstairs (nice and cool!) and there was a wonderful dolls house for April to play with. Very unique for a holiday home! Upstairs we were a little cramped with 5 people and there it did get warm. The fans did help! A consideration might be to put in some musquito screens, so you can leave the windows open without worries.

We are taking good note of the mosquito nets which will be part of our plans to renovate our gites this year.
Concerning the heat, unfortunately 2022 was one of the hottest summers ever in France and in Europe.
We must wish all of us and our beautiful blue planet,nice summers in the future; adapting to climate change is also part of our renovation projects for 2023/2024 (insulating the roofs of our gîtes with materials that recycle freshness).

Perfecte vakantie met kinderen. Zowel binnen als buiten is alles voorzien voor de kinderen. Veel gezelschapsspellen, puzzels, stiften, trampoline, glijbanen, schommels, voetbal, badminton,... En niet te vergeten een mooi onderhouden zwembad. Een extreem grote tuin met bomen voor koelte en overal rustplaatsen met stoelen, ligzetels, hangmatten. De eigenaars zijn altijd bereikbaar en zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Ook binnen is alle comfort aanwezig. Mooie rustige stadjes in de buurt, kayak, kust,...

We hebben hier een geweldige week gehad met onze twee kinderen. Een ideale uitvalsbasis om de Charente te ontdekken. Overdag het gebied ontdekken en ‘s avonds genieten in eigen tuin van de rust en de sterren. Of uiteraard een middag besteden aan het keurig onderhouden zwembad.
Aan alles is gedacht: van een opgemaakt babybedje en speelgoed tot aan een barbecue die al klaar staat om aan te steken. Ontvangst met brood, wijn en camembert, je voelt je meteen thuis. Fernando is een fijne host en biedt graag zijn hulp aan. Kortom: fantastische plek om van deze mooie Franse regio te genieten.Comment from SALETTES Valérie

Restaurants, food & wine
There are restaurants in all the small towns around La Mirabelle, with menus to suit all tastes and budgets - crêpes, bistro or gastronomic.
Most use local produce, always fresh and well prepared, with a speciality of seafood.
La Mirabelle is in the heart of France's cognac producing region, with famous names such as Hennessy and Remy Martin less than 40 minutes away by car. The hamlet of Phiolin is home to its own passionate producer of award-winning cognac and pineau (World's Best Cognac Award 2020!!), who loves to give tours of his distillery, with pineau and cognac tastings on offer.
Activities
All the beaches (Mechers, Saint Georges de Didonne, Royan etc.) offer the possibility to practice various water sports. Horse riding school and riding centre for organised rides in Champagnolles and Mosnac (5min and 10 min from the gite), canoeing (in Pons 10min), Golf in Saintes or Montendre, Thermal baths, Casino, and water park at the famous Antilles de Jonzac (in Jonzac 20 min), for children the famous Château des Enigmes in Pons (treasure hunt, The Paléosite of Saint Césaire, the zoo of La Palmyre, Talmont classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (30 min) next to the beaches, Saintes and its Roman vestiges with its well preserved amphitheatre, Mechers and its troglodyte houses, not forgetting Cognac and its famous distilleries (40min) and ....and the Domaine du Chêne distillery of Monsieur Doussoux du Baillif which has won several awards including the Best Cognac in the World 2020, 150m from the gîte!

Further remarks
In July and August, the day change is Saturday. The rest of the year we can be flexible.
La Mirabelle is non-smoking, but smoking is permitted in the gardens.
All linen, towels, tea towels and pool towels are included in our prices.
There are 2 hypermarkets within 10 minutes drive of the gîte, Leclerc in Pons and Système U in Gémozac (open Sunday mornings in July and August).
There is a very well stocked mini-market 1km from the gîte, offering fresh bread and pastries. It is open on Sunday mornings.
Local markets in the surrounding villages (Saint Genis de Saintonge on Sundays, and all other days of the week with Pons and Gémozac)
Long term rentals are available during the winter months - prices negotiable.

Bed linen, towels and pool towels are included in the price, as are electricity* and water. For a stay of two weeks or more, sheets and towels will be changed once a week.
You are responsible for leaving your gîte in the condition in which you found it (you have all the cleaning products you need to do this). If you do not wish to do the cleaning, you can opt for the cleaning option at 60 euros.
* Electricity is charged at 350 kwh per week in winter. Beyond that we charge 0.24 € per kwh.
