The house
A converted cognac distillery now offers luxury accommodation in a beautiful setting. The gite Hennessy is one of 4 private and independent gites set around a central courtyard. The gites can be rented individually or together. The 3 bed-roomed gite Hennessy faces into the central courtyard and gardens and has been created from an old cognac storage barn. The property is entered through a large arched window which leads you into the spacious living area with its high beamed vaulted ceiling and exposed stone walls. The open plan living area incorporates the lounge dining and kitchen areas with a short corridor leading to the other rooms. Once inside the property all the rooms are on a single level. the property is decorated with a careful balance of contemporary luxury and traditional craftsmanship. To the front of the building is a raised private terrace with dining furniture for al fresco eating.
The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, mix gas and electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine and all the utensils and cooking equipment you may need. Laundry facilities are provided in a separate building. The large bathroom has a shower cubicle, toilet, wash basin and a heated towel rail. There is also a separate toilet with full sized wash basin.
There are 3 bedrooms - a double with a Super King size bed (180cm) and 2 twin rooms. Two of the bedrooms have exposed stone walls.
All rooms have electric heating for those early and late season breaks.
The property is set within 2 1/2 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland dotted with ancient walnut trees. and is surrounded by grape vines used in the production of cognac. On site there are 2 BBQ terraces and you can enjoy our 13m by 6 m pool which is set in a secure walled courtyard. Sun loungers with cushions and parasols are provided for your comfort.

The property is set on the edge of the small hamlet of Deuville which nestles in a rolling landscape of vines. The village has about 40 houses of which 3 continue as growers and distillers of cognac. Although the village of Deuville has no services we are only 2 kms form the town of Segonzac which offers a supermarket, 2 bakers, a pharmacy, bank, petrol station,tourist office and the local cognac cooperative shop, Segonzac can be reached by road or if you prefer you can cycle along the traffic free track through the vines into the town. For more services and facilities we are only 12 kms from the cognac of Cognac.

Zeer mooie en leuke locatie. Pittoresk gebouw en over-complete inrichting. Eigenaren zijn zeer vriendelijk, gezellig en schappelijk. Hebben leuke tips, denken graag mee en zijn flexibel.
Omgeving is mooi landelijk. Veel te fietsen en wandelen. Genoeg activiteiten en prachtige dorpjes met de auto te bereiken.

Dear Jacky and Neville we have thoroughly enjoyed our time staying in Martell. The accommodation is perfect, the pool and gardens fantastic and the games room an added bonus. Many thanks for assisting us throughout our stay booking our trips and restaurants. We have made some special memories
Restaurants, food & wine
The area is blessed with a wide range of restaurants to suit all budgets from a MIchelin star restaurant on the river, traditional mum and pop eateries to noisy and buzzy pizza places. Cognac town (12kms) has a large number of places to eat and Segonzac (2kms) has 2 restuarrants.
The property is self catering so along with the local supermarkets you will pleased to find regular food markets in both Cognac and Jarnac.
In addition to cognac, local specialties include the Charentais melon, oysters and mussels from the Atlantic coast and of course you must try the local liqueur of Pineau made with cognac and grape juice
Activities
Sample the delights of the famous cognac house of Remy Martin, Hennessy, Courvoisier and more or try the the produce of one of the many local independent local producers in the area.
Discover the beautiful valley of the river Charente - by boat, traditional wooden barge or kayak.
Experience the beauty of the picturesque villages, romanesque churches and chateaux.
Take the short drive to the beaches and Islands of the Atlantic coast or visit the towns of La Rochelle, Rochefirt, Saintes, Bordeaux, Angouleme and Royan.
