Domaine Le Rianon

The Creuse is the green heart of France and also sparsely populated. It is one of the most beautiful areas of France. With the rolling hills, stone walls, wild hedges and lanes of old trees. Mass tourism has not yet reached this region. This is why the region is still really authentic.

Our farmhouse is situated on a domain of more than 13 hectares and consists of lined meadows, avenues with ancient oaks, forests and a babbling brook. It is the ultimate place to relax. Once, the farm was part of the Beaufort castle at the top of the hill.
Because we are halfway up a southern slope, it warms up quickly and there is remarkably little wind here.

As a nature lover, you can really indulge yourself here. Endless walks over quiet country roads and through leafy woods. The rich flora and fauna includes many species that are rare in the Netherlands.
Characteristic are the trees overgrown with oak moss, which is a sign of the excellent air quality. The Creuse has the best air quality in all of France.

We have a small-scale cosy holiday paradise consisting of a gite, mobile home and mini camping site. We also rent out a "chambre d'hote" and serve various meals including breakfast, picnic basket, BBQ and informal dinners a la table d'hotes.

BOUSSAC
Boussac is a small town 8 kilometres away. Perched on its rocky promontory high above the Petite Creuse valley, the magnificent chateau of Boussac, built in the 12th century and badly damaged during the Hundred Years War, was rebuilt in the 15th century by Jean de Brosse, companion of Joan of Arc. In the 19th century, this romantic place inspired the writer George Sand, who stayed there regularly and wrote her novel "Jeanne". Today, you can discover the waiting room, George Sand's room, as well as the furniture, antique woodwork and tapestries during a visit.
The famous goblin tapestries "The Lady and the Unicorn" come from here and were declared Unesco World Heritage in 2009.
Every Thursday morning, there is a large regional market where the many local products are offered.

TOULX SAINTE CROIX
The chapel of Saint Martin. Where Toulx-Sainte-Croix is now, there was a settlement of Tullum in Gallo-Roman times. It is suspected that a Gallo-Roman sanctuary once stood where the ruined Saint Martin's chapel is today. The Romanesque church is one of the oldest in the Creuse. The granite sanctuary has sculpted lion figures and limestone sarcophagi from the Merovingian period (450-750).
From the watchtower, you have a splendid view of the surrounding meadows. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the 7 departments of the Berry and the Auvergne, and even the Puy de Dome.

On the mountain Barlot are les Pierres Jaumaitres. These enchanting granite colossi seem to have been put there by someone. There are many wild stories about who that might have been. Some talk about giants and others about witches, druids and fairies. Each rock also has its own name, such as the seesaw, the frog, sugar loafers, the chapel and the devil's cradle.
The moss-covered stone walls and the chestnut forest create a mystical atmosphere.
In the adjacent tree climbing park, you can climb various courses or play laser games. Afterwards, you can enjoy a well-deserved drink on the restaurant terrace.

Other towns worth visiting in the neighbourhood are, MONTLUCON, GOUZON, AUBUSSON, LE CHATRE, EVAUX LES BAINS, GUERET, AHUN, LIMBOGES, ORADOUR SUR GLANE and many others.
