The house
Located in a peaceful, beautiful, sheltered valley the Gite has excellent views over the woods and countryside.
So much to visit in our area - a great base for days out - and so much to do on site - Pool, Games Field, Wildflower Maze and lovely walks.

Named after the natural feature rock escarpment in the hall and shower room, this 2 bedroomed Gite is finished to a high standard and well furnished. Sleeps 4 plus Cot.
DOWNSTAIRS
Entrance hall leading to the 2 bedrooms - one double (Antique French bed 190x140) overlooking the front and one twin at the rear. The hallway has the unusual and distinctive feature of the granite bedrock of the hillside forming part of the exterior wall. Shower room with washbasin , heated towel rail and Washing Machine. Separate toilet with washbasin.
UPSTAIRS
Spacious open-plan, well-equipped kitchen area with views over the fields to the rear of the Gite and with the sitting room/dining area at the front, enjoying marvellous views over the woods and surrounding countryside. La Roche is well equipped with Gas Cooker, Fridge-Freezer, Microwave,Dishwasher, TV(freesat), CD player and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, books and games. Stairgate at top of stairs.
There is free Wi-Fi access.
OUTSIDE
From the living area, the French doors lead you to your own private barbecue area, with steps leading up to your dining terrace - great for relaxing in the evening sun with a bottle of wine and some good French food. There is also a picnic table under the trees. These can also be accessed via your private entry at the side of the Gite. Behind the Pool terrace there are washing lines for each Gite.

Set in a glorious sheltered sun trap, the large shared Pool (9m x 4.6 m and 1.2m deep - open between May and October) is surrounded by an ample sun deck and is securely gated. Loungers, chairs and parasols are supplied for relaxing and sunbathing after a refreshing dip.We can also provide a paddling pool for young children.
The tranquil setting is surrounded by woodland views. There are many lovely walks here, and the really quiet lanes are excellent for bike riding.We have 3 Adult bikes available ,you can also bring your own , or hire locally.
In our large well-equipped Games field you can enjoy - Football,Table Tennis, and Badminton. A Boules court is adjacent to the Pool area, there are a selection of outdoor games and there is a Croquet lawn next to the Potager garden..There is an abundance of local Wildlife including,Buzzards,Woodpeckers,Red Squirrels, Lizards and masses of Butterflies and Ladybirds attracted by our Wildflower area (with its maze paths).
Our French Hens are also fun to watch and produce lovely yellow-yolked eggs - children love to help at feeding time.Organic vegetables are available (for a small charge) from our attractive 3-tiered Potager.

Fantastische plek in het groen met uitzicht op een mooi meertje. Rustig, alleen dierengeluiden en vriendelijke eigenaren. Genoeg te doen en wandelen in de buurt. Eenvoudig huis, veel eigen ruimte er omheen.

Echt een hele fijne plek voor een vakantie, absoluut een aanrader! Het huisje is prima voor een gezin met 1 of 2 kinderen en echt van alle gemakken voorzien (inclusief een wasmachine!). De ligging en de rust zijn geweldig, het zwembad is klein maar aangenaam, mede door de prachtige ligging tussen alle bomen, het eigen tuintje met BBQ fijn om te eten, ook nog een leuk speelveld met ook daar alle attributen voor voetbal en tafeltennis. Anne en Ray zijn zeer gastvrij en behulpzaam en extra oplettend vanwege COVID-19. En zij zorgen met veel liefde voor hun gites en hun gasten. Kortom, zeer goed voor een zeer goede prijs. In de omgeving is het leuk fietsen met regelmatig een stevige klim. Op rij afstand met de auto zijn de Marais Poitevin (bijvoorbeeld Maillezais voor een roeitochtje door de kleine groene kanaaltjes rond de abdij), Ile de Rhé (mooie stranden en heerlijk vis en schelpdieren eten bij Bistrot du Marin in het prachtige haventje van Saint Martin-de-Rhé) en de kust tussen La Tranche-sur-Mer en La Faute-sur-Mer (ook met mooie stranden en om heerlijke mosselen te eten) aanraders, ook om in combinatie met Les Jinchères en omgeving in een paar dagen tijd veel afwisseling te hebben. Wij hebben genoten!
Restaurants, food & wine
There are a number of Local Restaurants which offer a range of styles of cuisine and with prices to suit all. We are happy to advise and book.We also list the local supermarkets and Produce Markets - of which there are many! This area is renowned for its Goats Cheese, Apple Juice,Mussels,Chalons Poultry,Parthenais Beef,Eels and,of course,Charentais Melons.
Regional Wines include the crisp Whites from the Loire and Haut Poitou,and the local Vendee Pisotte.Sparkling Wines include Vouvray and Saumur,dry or medium.Reds range from lighter Loire Wines to the classic Bordeauxs.The local aperitif is the Pineau des Charentes, a fortified drink being a blend of grape juice and Cognac, best drunk chilled.
Activities
There are beautiful beaches just 75 minutes away at picturesque La Rochelle which also has museums,many shops and a variety of restaurants.Over the impresssive bridge to the Ile de Re there are 60 miles of dedicated cycle track. We are within an easy drive of two of the top theme park destinations in France,Futuroscope at Poitiers,which has a number of interactive attractions and rides,and Puy du Fou, a favourite of every Guest who has visited,with its spectacular outdoor shows,replica villages and falconry exhibitions.The Marais Poitevin,is a fascinating area of meadows and marshlands- hire a boat and spend the day meandering through the picturesque waterways.You can also enjoy the walks and cycle tracks.Locally,there are several ’plans d’eau’ which have a large lakes for swimming,man-made beaches,often waterslides and many water based activities.Pescalis,Europe’s premier fishing complex is just 12 minutes drive away,and has more than 250 acres of lakes with carp up to 25kgs.10 mins away is the ’Forest of Adventure’ and an excellent go-kart track both very popular with our visitors.Just north of L’Absie is the Rocher Branlant - the ’rocking rock’-a huge balanced boulder which moves very slightly when pushed! Parthenay,Niort and Poitiers are vibrant cities rich in medieval history.Vouvant a very pretty village has some very beautiful walks, and nearby Mervent has a small Zoo. There is a Chateau at Coulonges sur L’Autize,and the Chateau et Jardin Medieval de la Guyonniere is near Parthenay.The Chateau at Saumur and the Loire Valley make a great day out. On our own doorstep are a number of excellent walks and cycle rides, for which we have detailed maps.We also advise on local festivals ,markets , 'vide greniers' and special events.

Further remarks
There is free on site WiFi for all the Gites ,and each Gite has a good selection of Books and Games. All the Kitchens are well-equipped and we have Cots, Cot Mattresses, Children's plates and cutlery, high chairs ,a baby bath, a changing mat and potty available for families with young children. There is a comprehensive range of information in each Gite of tourist attractions , local restaurants,shops,and walks. We have produced two comprehensive map guides with details of over 40 things to do/see within a 25 minute radius of Les Glycines and over 100 things to do for days out slightly further afield.Detailed walk maps and Michelin guides are also available. We supply Bed Linen, small hand towels and t-towels, but guestsmust bring their own Pool towels and Cot Bed linen Please note that Standard Bath/Shower Towels are available to hire at 15€ per week for four towels.There are two Private sitting/dining areas for each of the 3 Gites,one sunny and one shady,equipped with tables,chairs,parasols and a barbecue.During July and August,there is a daily delivery service of delicious artisan freshly baked Baguettes,Croissants,Pain au Chocolat.The Gites are fronted by a small chemin(country lane) which is infrequently used except for the daily La Poste.The Owners live on site in the end House and are available to offer help, suggest visits, book meals and to make your stay as enjoyable and carefree as possible.

The proprietors live on site and are available to help with any difficulties relating to the Gite. We endeavour to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, so if there are any problems please report them to us as soon as possible so that we can rectify them promptly.
