The house
Holiday home Pouchou is located against a hill overlooking the valley. The silence is indescribable and is best translated by the French saying "le bruit du silence".
PETIT POUCHOU
Behind the red door of 'Petit Pouchou' is a large, well-equipped dining kitchen and a cellar. Upstairs you will find a romantic, cosy living room with an authentic fireplace where you can relax even in winter. Upstairs you will also find the first bedroom, the bathroom with large walk-in shower and separate toilet. A narrow staircase leads to the top floor with the second bedroom. This bedroom is especially suitable for children and young adults as adults cannot stand upright everywhere.
Upon arrival, the beds are made!
As the holiday home is built against a hill, you can walk directly outside from both the kitchen (downstairs) and the living room (upstairs). Downstairs, the house faces the courtyard enclosed by the owner's house and the large tobacco barn. For privacy, you can use a private terrace located upstairs, directly accessible from the living room. There is also a private covered terrace downstairs, with its own barbecue and views over the valley.
A little further from the house is the swimming pool. A lovely place where you have a beautiful view over the valley and where you can enjoy a good book and a dip in the water. You imagine yourself as a god in France. We, the residents of Pouchou, also use the pool every now and then.
Further on, in a quiet spot in the woods, there is a plateau you can use for yoga or meditation. To unwind, this is the place to be.
Children have also been thought of. On the grounds of Pouchou, children can use a trampoline (with protective net), a tree house, a swing and a cableway. And for children who love animals: Harriet and Gerry are happy to help feed the sheep, chickens, cats and dog.
For the safety of the youngest, the terraces (courtyard) can be closed off. This is to prevent children who cannot yet swim from going to the pool on their own. There is a stair gate on the upper bedroom in the gîte.

Pouchou is the name of the house and is located in the village of Besse which has 160 inhabitants. Besse has a beautiful church from 1200 that is worth a visit. Both in Cazals and in Villefranche du Perigord you can do your daily shopping.

Ook wij kunnen alleen maar zeggen hoe fijn het huis was hoe mooi de omgeving en hoe gastvrij Gerry en Harriet zijn. Genoten van de aanbevolen restaurantjes en de leuke plaatsen in de omgeving. Daarna lekker afkoelen in het zwembad en heerlijk koken in een volledig uitgeruste keuken en eten op het terras.
Dank je wel we hebben genoten deze 14 dagen en hebben daarom alweer geboekt voor volgend jaar.

We hebben een fantastische week gehad in Petit Pouchou! Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien en bovendien erg smaakvol ingericht. De omgeving is prachtig en het terrein zelf heeft overal leuke zitjes om ‘s avonds te kunnen borrelen. De rust die je hier vindt, vind je nergens anders. Een dikke aanrader!

Wat een fijne plek is dit! Prachtig uitzicht, rust, heerlijk zwembad en het huis is van alle gemakken is voorzien.
Restaurants, food & wine
In the months of July and August, it is possible to visit a 'marché gourmande' or a 'marché des producteurs' in various towns in the area. In Besse this is every Friday evening. For the true lover of the food of this region, this is worthwhile: you can put together your own food from the region that is offered from different stalls, a true experience. The Perigord Noir is a rich area when it comes to food. It is especially known for its nuts, chestnuts, truffles, cèpes (mushrooms), honey-tasting strawberries, and duck dishes such as Magret de Canard and Confit de Canard.
And, of course, there is no lack of "good" wine in this region. Pouchou is situated exactly between the much-praised Bergerac wine and the Cahors wine that has been gaining respect in recent years. The first wineries you can go and taste on location are already about twenty minutes away (the Cahors wines). For the Bergerac wines, you have to reckon on about three quarters of an hour's drive.

Activities
A stay in Pouchou is attractive for those who love nature, tranquillity, hiking and visiting picturesque villages and markets. But there is also plenty to do for children. Around Besse you can visit numerous characteristic villages where you cannot help but suspect that Anton Pieck got his inspiration here. The characteristic villages and towns such as Monpazier, Sarlat, Belves and Domme, to name a few, are definitely recommended. Or what about the prehistoric caves with ancient wall drawings and beautiful stalactites. Art lovers should definitely visit the museum of the famous artist Zadkin in the town of Les Arques, not far from here. The castles in the area are also worth a visit. Furthermore, for walkers, there are beautiful hiking trails that are well marked and marked. For children, you can visit a climbing forest nearby where climbing routes are marked at different levels for different ages. Last but not least: Pouchou is right between the two big rivers Dordogne and Lot, where you can see the country from a different perspective from a canoe.

On the grounds of Pouchou there is a plateau in the forest area for yoga and meditation. In a place where silence embraces you.
You may use this yourself, but it is also possible to do this together with Harriët who can provide guidance. Harriët has her own programme consisting of a meditative form of yoga using exercises from Yin and Hatha yoga. The yoga ends with a meditation based on Vipassana meditation (the founder of mindfulness). Only yoga or only meditation is also possible.

You can also come and fly: Transavia flies from Rotterdam to Bergerac on Saturdays. At the airport in Bergerac you can rent cars. Bergerac is just under an hour's drive from Pouchou.
