The house
If you go on holiday to France, you want to enjoy carefree. To a holiday home in the Dordogne?
Or are you looking for a real, unforgettable destination in France (Dordogne) then Les Palmiers is the place for you!
Atop a hill, centrally located in the valley of the Dordogne River. Detached and completely surrounded by woods. Between Souillac and Sarlat, you will find this completely restored old, stone-built holiday home. With central heating for the colder seasons and thick stone walls (up to 75 cm.) for coolness in the summer months. Spacious house , in total 102 m2 .
" Les Palmiers" is surrounded by very spacious garden, completely fenced, and offers space for 4 adults and 2 children up to 10 years.
The garden is large, fenced, in different levels. With many planted hardy palms and local trees and shrubs.
House and garden are very animal-friendly. With tiling on all floors.
You will find a large kitchen in the house, which is well-equipped, with an induction cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and ironing facilities.
The living room is spacious enough for the whole family to sit around the wood-burning stove and use a DVD player or Dutch satellite TV.
Bedrooms and bathroom:
- Bedroom 1 , on the left, on the bg, has 2 single beds and a spacious storage cupboard.
- Bedroom 2 , on the right, on the bg,has 2 single beds and a spacious storage cupboard, and overlooks the old natural stone walls.
- Bedroom 3 (upstairs) has 3 single beds and 1 cot (1.20 m).
Besides 4 adults, accommodation for 2 children under 12 is also possible. This only on request.

There is a separate shower with bidet and washbasin. Also separate toilet with washbasin and storage room.
The house is detached, luxuriously furnished and fully equipped on approx 105 m² living space. Read our website for a detailed description.
The rooms are mostly on the ground floor and can be reached from the entrance hall by fixed stone stairs. Furnishings are mostly antique (pine) and thatched, matching the house.
Surrounding the house is a large garden of about 2500 m2 of grass with ornamental trees and fruit trees, and divided into several terraces by differences in height.
In the large enclosed garden, children can play and those seeking peace and quiet can retreat and enjoy their privacy.
Entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom and toilet are on the ground floor.
A fixed stone staircase leads down to the spacious, cool living room (6 x 5 m) with antique beamed ceiling, a large fireplace, wrought-iron chandeliers and furnished with easy chairs and rattan furniture. Here there is also a round dining table with chairs.
There is also a satellite TV with Dutch channel package and WIFI connection.

Holiday house "Les Palmiers" is located on the border of the departments Dordogne and Lot and is surrounded by lovely and varied hilly countryside with many forests and fields.
The house is close (15 km) to a motorway network of which the last one, the A20, is almost entirely toll-free. (330 km)
The garden is completely surrounded by fences, hedges and stone walls. Outside, there are sunny terraces on various levels.
The large garden of approx. 2500 m2 is a delight! Designed as a park with lawn and various shrubs, flowering plants and fruit trees.
In the grounds is a classified "borie" (round, built of loose stacked stones) from the 19th century.
Next to it, there is an elevated terrace with a log cabin (with roof) where you can enjoy the sunset in the evening! Here you have an overview of the entire garden.
There is also a shady gazebo with seating at the height of the back wall.
The house is surrounded by characteristic small villages and picturesque towns, such as Sarlat, Souillac and Gourdon. Here you can enjoy a delicious glass of wine on a terrace and also discover the very varied French cuisine. The Dordogne region is also very popular for its many famous castles. The closest one is Fenelon Castle in Sainte Mondane. The region is also famous for its caves, such as the prehistoric caves of Gougnac, near Gourdon.
Markets can be found in all villages in the area, as well as summer festivals and flea markets. It is definitely recommended to visit the medieval town of Sarlat in the evening, with its cultural festivals and many street performers.
And how about the town of Cahors. With its old town parts and its Pont Valentré, this town is definitely worth a visit. Also, the Cahors region is famous for its exquisite wines, many wine cellars are open to the public. Not forgetting the pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, which attracts many visitors every year, also known for its delicious goat cheese.

Heerlijke twee weken gehad in Les Palmiers. Kinderen konden spelen in de grote tuin en het zwembad. Dordogne vlakbij en allerlei leuke stadjes in de buurt. Lekker tot rust komen!

Les Palmiers maakt de omschrijving, zoals die hierboven gegeven wordt, helemaal waar! Zowel binnen, als buiten in de prachtige tuin, waant men zich in een klein paradijs. Het is een oase van rust en privacy.

Net als in 2014 hebben wij begin juni van dit jaar weer een paar heerlijke weken doorgebracht in Les Palmiers. Als het aan ons ligt maken wij hier een goede gewoonte van. Een fantastisch huis met een zeer fraaie tuin met voldoende privacy. Een prima uitvalsbasis voor het verkennen van de prachtige omgeving of om heerlijk tot rust te komen.

Restaurants, food & wine
The Dordogne (Perigord noir) is famous for its culinary dishes. It is situated between the famous wine regions of Cahors and Bergerac. There are many tastings in the area and the shops are full of local delicacies.
In all the villages, there are small restaurants that serve the local dishes.
In the area, but especially in the busier tourist towns such as Sarlat, Gourdon, Dome and Souillac, there are a multitude of small restaurants, often with an outdoor terrace. There are markets a few days a week.

Activities
Old towns, villages and castles
There are many picturesque villages and towns within a 15 km radius of the house.
The house is located in the Souillac/Sarlat and Gourdon triangle. Sarlat, Domme and Gourdon are especially worth a visit.
Sarlat is a medieval town with many shops and restaurants. It has been completely restored in the old style.
There are many caves to visit in the area, including Lascaux with prehistoric wall paintings, in Domme and in Gourdon. (Grotte de Cougnac)
In Ste Mondane itself you will find a famous old castle: Château de Fénelon. This castle can be visited all year round.
There are many more castles in the area. There are also beautiful gardens you can visit.
In summer, there are many local markets, brocantes and vide-greniers in almost every village

River
At 1.5 km, the Dordogne River flows, where you can sunbathe, swim and canoe. You can park your car right next to the water.
At 12 km is a golf course, in Souillac, with 18 holes.
8 km west there is another golf course, with 9 holes, in Vitrac. This also includes a 4-star hotel. Very nicely situated on the banks of the Dordogne River.
Cycle paths
Recently, a "Voie Verte" has been constructed. A cycle path has been created on the trace of the old railway lines. A total of 35 km. Ends in Sarlat. Very worthwhile also because of the views and the flat route. In the house there are 2 bicycles (ladies and gents bike). Bike carrier available (mount on towbar!

Further remarks
Rental rates include water, electricity and wood for fireplace.
You must bring your own sheets and pillowcases, towels and tea towels. For emergencies, however, there is linen from owner. Duvets are provided.
Prices include water/electricity/wood:
1 pet (dog) is allowed. Costs € 50,=/week extra. If you have more dogs, please contact us in advance!
A deposit of € 250,= must be paid in advance.
Cleaning costs: € 50,= per rental period obligatory.
You can use a portable(DECT) fixed telephone to answer telephone calls. It can reach the upper terrace in the garden.
There is wireless internet (WIFI).
You can receive free calls. Calls via dect phone to outside (country) may be charged.
We want to ensure that our tenants are not unduly inconvenienced by traffic jams.
Because of the heavy traffic in the holiday months, Sunday is the most ideal day for arrival and departure (no freight traffic). We therefore always rent from Sunday to Sunday. Only if the house has not been rented out beforehand will it be possible to arrive on Saturday. Travel time approx. 10 hours from The Hague (Netherlands)
