The house
Why did we choose "Fete de la Chouette" in Sainte Alvere?
It's a spacious detached family house, at a quiet location, with a swimming pool and a large fenced garden. A garden where children can play to their hearts content, either on the trampoline, or hanging from the zip line. From the swimming pool, the garden extends downwards. It invites you for a stroll around or to find a secluded place
in the sun or shade for a good read. Or may be just lie back, close your eyes listen to the
hooting of the owls in the evening which is why our house is called "Fete de la Chouette"
("the Owl Party"). How about a picnic next to the mimosa tree or a barbecue on the terrace?
This adventurous garden with its huge trees and many bushes is a paradise for children to
play for instance hide-and-seek.
Interior
Make your way inside this modern, sun-filled family home where you are greeted with chic provincial style and design with views out to the stunning countryside and lush gardens from each window.
Relax after exploring this great touristy area in the bright, open living space that is filled with a sofa and two stylish chairs that surround the Smart TV giving you access to all your favourite streaming apps – perfect for a movie night in.
The French style kitchen comes fully equipped to cook up breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole family with all the cookware, dinnerware and utensils you could need as well as high end Bosh and Siemens appliances. There is a full size fridge, a built in oven, a coffee maker and a dishwasher and even a dish warmer.
Eat together at the beautiful, reclaimed dining table with seating for eight or if you don’t feel like cooking, take a short walk into the village for some fresh croissants for breakfast or 1 of the 3 restaurants like Dix Restaurant for a delicious dinner.
There are four generous bedrooms within the house with each offering comfortable beds topped in soft, quality linen and plenty of space to unpack and make yourself at home.
Bedrooms one and two are perfect for families with one offering two single beds and the other a fun bunk room with wooden toys and books perfect for kids. Bedroom three has a comfortable king bed while bedroom four features a king bed with access out to the terrace garden and a workspace with good WiFi to keep you connected.
The two modern bathrooms each have a luxurious walk in showers while the second bathroom also features a relaxing jacuzzi bath ideal for unwinding with a glass of wine, a good book and lots of bubbles.
Outside guests can enjoy the expansive garden with its beautiful salt pool that is filled with fruit trees, a trampoline for the kids, a handy outdoor shower and the sounds of many singing birds.
It is the perfect tranquil place to soak up the sun by the sparkling pool on the sun lounges or to sit back and enjoy your welcome bottle of wine while relaxing under the shady terrace.
On a sunny afternoon, take advantage of the summer kitchen and BBQ and enjoy lunch out under the terrace alfresco style while the kids play in the pool, jump on the trampoline and run around the yard.

A house in a village where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings in the morning with a
crusty baguette under your arm. Where you can choose from several restaurants in the
evening, within walking distance. Our favourite is Dix. This restaurant was the only
restaurant in the Dordogne to get a place in Gault & Millau's Sélection 109, a list of the 109
new best chefs of France in 2021. Ste Alvere is a picturesque place and is
famous for its truffles. These are sold in winter on Mondays at the truffle market. The price
for a kilo of 1st category truffles can be between 600 and 1000 euros.
In summer, evening markets are organised in Sainte Alvere where the most delicious local
dishes are served, made from local produce. Characteristic are the sandstone houses in the
picturesque streets, where you imagine yourself to be in the middle ages. But with all the
modern facilities you could wish for, such as a medical centre, a pharmacy, a large
supermarket, a hairdresser, an ATM, a petrol station, a post office, an art gallery, a tourist
office, enough to make your stay in Sainte Alvere agreeable.

Reviews
Menno from Nuenen,
Mooi huis (en schoon!), lekker rustig gelegen en voldoende te doen in de buurt. Was echt top dat het zwembad nog open was, de kinderen hebben genoten. Zeker een aanrader :)
Fam. Hilgersom from Zoeterwoude,
Restaurants, food & wine
The region is full of culture, to name a few highlights:
- visit 1 of the 1001 castles of the region
- visit the 5 of the most beautiful villages of france within a reach of 25 km Limeuil, Monpazier, etc.
- visit grotte du Lascaux
- visit Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigeux, beatifull ancient cities
Activities
The house is a perfect base for excursions, also to larger places such as Bergerac, Sarlat and
Perigueux, a city that goes back to Roman times. Thanks to its central location in the
Perigord Noir region, most attractions are easily accessible. In summer, many
towns have evening markets. Within a radius of 15 kilometres, there are numerous
possibilities for trips to excellent restaurants, beautiful medieval villages, castles, caves,
museums, beaches, aqua parks or wineries.
Bring along your golf clubs with five high end golf courses within 25kms of the house offering stunning courses for all skill levels including – Golf Blue Green the Marterie, Golf Originel du Sorbier, Golf Du Chateau Les Merles and even a course for the little ones at Jungle miniature Golf.
With its calm and clear waters ideal for canoeing, kayaking and loads of activities, the Dordogne River will leave even the most "ground-loving" people with a smile offering many first-class sights along its 130 mile long shoreline framed with walnut orchards, rock-sculpted villages, fields of sunflowers, eye-popping views and stone fortresses that patrol the cliffs above.
For guests that like to explore the region by bike, you can hire a bike via 'Aquitaine Bike' a great service that will bring and collect the bikes for free directly to your door.
Guests can even go horse riding through the country side with all experience levels catered for.
On a warm summer’s day, take a dip in one of the several aquaparks or at one of the river beaches in Limieul which is regarded as one of the “most beautiful villages in France.” Laying at the confluence of the Vezere and Dordogne Rivers, Limeuil is home to a fantastic sandy river beach. Being shallow at the edge, the beach is a great choice for families with young children.
If you can manage to drag yourself away from this beautiful beach, wandering around the cobbled streets of this postcard-perfect village, past honey-coloured houses and perfectly-manicured gardens, is definitely worth a visit.
