Perigord cuisine offers all sorts of traditional dishes which are made with local products. Typical regional dishes are: duck (confit en magret de canard), omelettes (with mushrooms and truffles) and salads dressed with nut oil.

Truffles, the black gold

Sorges has a museum dedicated to truffles. After visiting the museum, you can take a walk with the "truffières" and try to find truffles yourself along a path.
La Truffe Noir and Périgord, at Péchalifour in Saint Cyprien, allows visitors to look for truffles in the wild! Edouard tells the story of the truffle, the connection between the plants, trees and mushrooms, between the sun and the water, but also stories of animals, pigs, and dogs.

Activities

In the village you can see the Chataignier (person who works with chestnuts) at work, and you can learn all about the chestnuts and mushrooms that grow in the chestnut forests. Châtaigne du Périgord on domaine de Rapatel has more than seven hectares of organic chestnut orchard, where the owners like to tell you about the "bread tree". In the shop you can discover the delights of this Camille chestnut. In autumn there is the festival in honour of the sweet chestnut and porcini mushrooms in Villefranche-du-Périgord. In summer, a 'repas' (outdoor meal on the market square) is frequently organised which anyone can join against a small fee.
