The house
The house is an authentic over 200 years old French house, situated in a quiet country village. The house is comfortably furnished with a dining area/kitchen and a separate sitting area with a double sofa, loveseat, armchair, cast-iron fireplace and TV. The house has a roof for when the weather is not so good or to sit in the shade. The bathroom is located on the ground floor and is very spacious with a toilet, sink and large shower. On the first floor are two bedrooms, separated by a door. The first bedroom contains a large double bed with wardrobe overlooking the meadow behind. The second bedroom is furnished with a double bed a single bed with a small wardrobe and a cot.

In the Haute-Vienne, in the Limousin region, at an altitude of over 600 metres lies the village of Volondat.
The holiday home ' La Maison Volondat' is situated on a small dead-end road, where another house and a chalet are. The road ends after 40 meters after which it turns into the forest. From the terrace, next to the house, you have a beautiful view to the west.
The surroundings consist of a sloping landscape with authentic small villages and narrow roads.
In Laurière (4 km) you can do your small shopping: there is a butcher, baker, small supermarket and bar. Once a week there is a small market.
At about 6 km lies Lac du Pont A l'Age, a recreational lake situated in a forest, with a sandy beach, sunbathing area, bar and terrace on the waterfront and playground equipment for children. Midget golf and pedalos are also available.
For shopping you should go to Ambazac (about 20 km), where there is a Lidl and a Super U supermarket. There is also a gas station and a good restaurant 'Hotel de Voyageurs'.
The towns of Limoges (famous for its porcelain), Guéret and Bourganeuf are a short distance away.

Wat een heerlijk rustig plekje. De natuur roept. Wij zijn hier als gezin geweest.
We beheersen de Franse taal niet goed, maar gelukkig heeft Jose ons geholpen toen we even naar de apotheek moesten voor de kleine. Sowieso werden wij en de kids erg verwend met verse groente en eieren, en de kids kregen een cadeautje. Wat een heerlijke tijd gehad!Liesbeth B from Gelderland,
We hebben deze gite geboekt met het oog op de rust en de stilte die er zou zijn. Dit bleek helemaal waar! De omgeving overtrof onze verwachting. Zoveel natuur, stilte en mogelijkheden om te wandelen. Deze streek was voor ons een echte verrassing. In het nabij gelegen dorpje Saint-Leger-la-Montagne kan je bij de Marie fijne wandelkaarten halen (zonder kosten). In het ernaast gelegen restaurant heerlijk eten. Het uitzicht vanaf het terras naast de gite is fantastisch te noemen. De ondergaande zon prachtig. Binnen is het niet zo gladgestreken als in het gemiddelde Nederlandse huis wel is alles royaal aanwezig. Het linnengoed is in overvloed aanwezig. Dat is prettig. Zeker in de keuken. Als bonus bleken ook nog eens de lokaal aanwezige gastheer- en vrouw bijzonder gastvrij en vriendelijk. Het kan niet beter.

Wij werden aller vriendelijkst ontvangen door Jose. En kwamen terecht in een heerlijk huisje. Werkelijk alles was aanwezig. Waar ik altijd de kaasschaaf meeneem en nog wat andere dingen was dat absoluut niet nodig. Het bed lag geweldig! Prachtig uitzicht over het dal. De zonsondergang was prachtig. De hond van de buren was dikke vrienden met ons hondje. Ook hij heeft het daar heerlijk gehad. Wat een rust. Naar de supermarkt is het even rijden. In het dorp is een heel goede bakker en een klein supermarktje. En een leuk terrasje waar de plaatselijke bevolking ook veel komt. We hebben het gezellig gehad met de eigenaren/ onze buren. Zelfs frikadellen speciaal daar gegeten. Kortom een dikke 9 en voor herhaling vatbaar
Restaurants, food & wine
The Limousin is of course known for its Limousin cattle, sheep and goats.
There are many local restaurants in the area, where you can enjoy a delicious meal (please note that some restaurants only serve dinner at noon).
For larger markets you can go to Gueret, Bourganeuf or La Souterraine. In Limoges there is a covered market hall, which is open daily. In the surrounding villages there are weekly markets, but on a very small scale.
Furthermore, honey (in Bagnol) and cheese (La Jonchere St. Maurice) are produced in the vicinity.
In the village Benevent- l'Abbaye there is an abbey where you can buy a delicious herbal bitters.
Activities
The intermediary can also give you information about cycling and walking routes. She knows the area very well, and can tell you exactly where you can find places of interest such as old hunter's huts.
Furthermore, for hikers (marked trails through the tourist office), there is also a mountain bike trail (downhill) in a village nearby.
A few km from the house is a freely accessible lake (Lac du Pont A L'Age) with beach, sunbathing area, bar, pedalos and mini-golf.
There are several possibilities for fishing in the area. There are several etangs where one can fish well for carp, pike, whitefish. Permits can be bought in the local bar, at the waterfront or in the supermarket.
Furthermore, in the area many brocantes, vide greniers and flea markets (except in the winter months) and French village festivals are organised.

Further remarks
Children's toys are available in the house, including cuddly toys, puzzles, paper and craft items. Also badminton set, jeu de boules and ball.
The house is attached to 'our house' , where we will stay during the holidays.
Additional price info and offers
We require a deposit of 125 Euros per week. We also ask for a deposit of 100 Euros. This will be returned if there are no defects in the house or its contents and if the house is left clean when you clean it yourself.
