The house
Le Poirier (pear tree) is a beautiful and spacious gite ideal for up to four adults looking for a relaxing holiday or shorter stay. Featuring traditional exposed stonework and oak beams with modern fixtures and fittings throughout to ensure the highest level of comfort. The open plan living and dining area, and the modern, well-equipped kitchen open out directly onto a private terrace overlooking the stunning heated pool and countryside beyond.
On the ground floor you will find bedroom 1 with a king size bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a door leading out on to the private terrace overlooking the pool. Also on the ground floor is a modern bathroom with a full size bath and shower. Upstairs on the mezzanine is a second bedroom with 2 single beds.
The property is surrounded by beautiful countryside on the Vienne/Charente border yet only 5 minutes from the historic town of Charroux with all amenities.
It is an ideal location to explore much of Poitou-Charentes being only 25 minutes to the Circuit du Val de Vienne, 30 minutes to Valley des Singes and only 1 hour from Limoges airport.

The cottage is located only 5 minutes from the pretty medieval town of Charroux in the beautiful Vienne countryside, close to the rivers Charente, Vienne and Clain. The neighbouring chateau, Chateauneuf, stands majestically surrounded by woodland and organically farmed fields. The location and setting is peaceful, tranquil and a haven for wildlife. Be amazed by the night sky, watch the bats come out at dusk, sit by the pool and watch the swallows swoop down to have a drink, and listen to the hoots of owls nesting in the barn.

Wij hebben een heerlijke vakantie gehad in Le Poitier. Een schitterend appartement met een fijn terras, BBQ en in het appartement vind je echt alles wat je nodig hebt. De tuin is ontzettend mooi en er ligt een heerlijk zwembad met lekkere relaxstoelen.
Wij hebben op aanraden van Paul en Sarah fietsen gehuurd, echt top geregeld, fietsen worden aan huis geleverd. De omgeving is heuvelachtig dus vrij pittig om te fietsen, maar wel ontzettend leuk. Je komt bijna niemand tegen.
Het is een heerlijke plek om volledig tot rust te komen. Sarah en Paul zijn lieve, zorgzame mensen en zij geven leuke tips wat te doen in de omgeving.

Hartelijk dank voor uw mooie review en de toptips voor andere bezoekers. We zijn zo blij dat je een geweldige tijd hebt gehad en gebruik hebt gemaakt van de fietsen van Bike Hire Direct. Er zijn zoveel paden, rustige straatjes en leuke dorpjes om te verkennen. Le Poirier is een mooie gite en we zijn zo blij dat je alles had wat je nodig had voor je verblijf. Bedankt dat je lieve gasten bent en we hopen je weer te zien :)

La Vieille GorceJoyce en André from Baarn,
Wat een fantastische plek hebben Paul en Sarah gecreëerd. We logeerden in le poirier voor 3 weken en hebben genoten van het heerlijke verwarmde zwembad, van de tuin met de vele zitjes in de schaduw of in de zon. Van de gasbbq, waar we heerlijke Maigret de canard hebben gemaakt. Van het huisje waar alles wat je maar kunt bedenken voor handen is, van bakblik tot knoflookpers, van meer dan voldoende servies tot een optakelbaar droogrek.
We hebben heerlijk gewandeld met onze Jack russell. Vanaf het huis loop je zo de velden en de bossen in. En met de elektrische fiets hebben we zalig getoerd in de omgeving. De bakker in het nabij gelegen Charroux is fantastisch, 15 minuten met de fiets.
Paul en Sarah zijn geweldig gastvrij. Je kunt altijd even aanbellen met vragen en ze hebben ontzettend veel leuke tips om de omgeving te bekijken. Het Franse platteland was voor ons nieuw, maar zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. Als je op zoek bent naar rust, stilte en weidsheid dan is dit een aanrader. Er zijn weinig toeristen, maar wel herten, vossen, roofvogels en zwijntjes. Kortom, ik zou het doen!Comment from Sarah Wilkinson and Paul Duncan

You will never be stuck for somewhere to dine, with a range of restaurants, bars and cafes only a short drive away. Or simply stay at home and conjure up something wonderful with produce purchased from any of the french markets in the area. The cottage has its own BBQ and private terrace overlooking the pool.
Activities
The Vienne countryside is ideal for walking and cycling and being amongst nature. The property is surrounded by organically farmed fields and woodland which is a haven for many bird species, including owls and buzzards, insects, and deer. If you would like to be a little more energetic then we suggest hiring bikes from the fantastic 'bike hire direct' who will deliver bikes to your door. Being so close to La Charente and La Vienne rivers means lots of fishing opportunities as well as canoeing, kayaking and swimming. If you enjoy visiting markets and brocantes then you won't be disappointed, there are several markets most days nearby.
