The house
VéloGîtes is a complex of 6 gîtes on a plot of more than 4 hectares, nestled on the slopes above the river Vienne. The 200 year old building, framed with oak beams, has been tastefully restored and offers gîtes that can be rented separately or in groups, providing accommodation for up to 40 people while preserving the privacy of each.
If you are looking to book an unforgettable holiday, then look no further. VéloGîtes is located just ten minutes’ walk away from the vibrant village of Availles-Limouzine and offers a beautiful 12m x 6m heated swimming pool; overlooking the valley and village. With stunning views and a large number of activities right on your doorstep, you can be assured of having a fantastic family holiday.
Each gîte has an outside terrace area and barbecue, all have shade sails to keep you comfortable on those summer days. Your hosts, Graham & Kathy are always available to make sure that you enjoy a fantastic family holiday.
Why "VéloGîtes" ?
We launched the business in August 2019 and initially wanted to create a cycling holiday center in the beautiful countryside. Unfortunately, Covid hit and we were unable to accept guests until July 2020. There was no point in advertising for cycling holidays during this time but found that all our bookings were from families and groups who were looking for a perfect place to get together.
Even with little advertising, our booking calendar filled up quickly. There is an expression “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Of course, we have set some beautiful cycling routes, but VéloGîtes is first and foremost the perfect holiday location for groups and families in France. The name “VéloGîtes” will not change as we have many very positive reviews associated with the name, and of course, our website.
Le Gîte du Pêcheur sleeps up to 7 people in three bedrooms with 132m² of accommodation. The ground floor consists of a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area which can seat 8 people and also a stunning conservatory with views towards the swimming pool area. Moving up to the first floor, there is a mezzanine area overlooking the ground floor, two bedrooms and a shower room with the top floor hosting another bedroom and shower room.

Establishing the perfect family gîte complex in France required an amazing location. After eighteen months of searching, we found our home; Availles-Limouzine. Nestled in between rolling hills and the river Vienne valley, the village is alive with colour and activity. There is a short tree-lined path leading from VéloGîtes and past the adventure playground, into the village. Here you will find restaurants and of course the all-important boulangerie for fresh bread and croissants. There is also a market in the village every Thursday with a number of stalls selling fresh local produce.

Every gîte has a fully equipped kitchen and a barbeque for alfresco dining but why not take advantage of restaurants in the area?
For those who enjoy fine dining, La Châtellenie is a great boutique hotel in the centre of the village. They offer “haute cuisine” food created by head chef Thomas. The food is a subtle blend of seasonal and local produce and their menu is refreshed weekly.
Just ten minutes from our door, in Pressac, you will find Casa del Tapas which also incorporates “Scoops” ice cream. A meal of fabulous Spanish tapas bursting with flavour can be finished off with gelato ice-cream sundaes, crêpes and waffles; pure bliss!
Another “must visit” is Patavrap located on the banks of the Vienne river. Burgers, pasta dishes and possibly the best pizzas we have tried are all available in a stunning setting. A short ten-minute car drive from VéloGîtes, Patavrap is a great place to treat the family. It also just happens to be at the exit point of the kayak safari from Confolens, why not combine the two!
Our final recommendation is the gourmet bistro, L’Estaminet located in Esse which is a twenty-minute car drive away. Nicolas Harduin, with over twenty-five years restaurant experience, combined with head chef, Arnaud, offer a classic French bistro menu, cooked to perfection with a service to match. Booking is essential!
Activities
Our mini-farm is a favourite with guests where you can meet our sheep, goats, the alpaca brothers, Toffee and Chewbacca and our donkey, Wilbur. Feeding time is always fun! Along with our swimming pool, there is plenty to do on-site including pétanque, a children's play area with a trampoline, table tennis and much more.
The hunt to find the ideal location for VéloGîtes took eighteen months. We had to be sure that guests staying here had a range of activities and visits within a short distance away so that even if it is a rainy day, there will always be something to do! VéloGîtes is perfectly positioned with a large amount of activities for all within a very short car ride and in some cases, within easy walking distance!
