The house
A delightful detached 3 bedroom period stone built spacious house. Fully renovated to a high standard. Set by a small stream on the edge of a tiny Hamlet ,next to acres of unspoilt woodland. The house comprises of three bedrooms with contemporary fully equipped kitchen, two complete bathrooms with Italien showers , 2 lounges. Wood burning stoves [all wood provided], electric central heating . Suitable for couples , families and small groups. A restorative space in a truly natural environment.
The house has renovated by us, (Autumn 2019) using local materials with the kind help of our friend who is master builder!

Dinning room with made to measure kitchen fully equipped - fridge /freezer, electric oven and hob, dish washer, toaster, kettle coffee machine etc. Wood burner. Dining table for 6 plus high chair if needed. Double glass door leading to stream side terrace.
Modern bathroom (1) with sink, toilet and walk in italien shower.
Utility area with washing machine, iron and ironing board

Wooden floors in all rooms but the bathrooms.

The house "le Pidro" is situated in the forest valley of the River Artillac. on the edge of a small (10 houses) peaceful hamlet A bubbling stream runs through the gardens with a stream side terrace. Large gardens with private woodland adds to the spacious and relaxing feel of the house.The local village of Castelnau Durban is 2km, it can be walked along the road that follows the river Artillac and its valldey it can be reached across an ancient footpath which gives views of the mountains and surrounding area. The village has a bakery and epicerie, a very good restaurant and a tabac as well as a local craft shop which is open in the summer months. The valley is an area of protected environment in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées ariégeoises. In the park there is virtually no industry (1%) , the population is sparse 1 person for every 2km and consequently traffic minimal, with very few cars passing the cottage.

Een prachtig huis in een rustige omgeving. Binnen een straal van 30 km is er veel te doen en te genieten. Volop privacy. Een vriendelijk ontvangst. Hygiëne prima. Prima bedden, douches. Een goed uitgeruste keuken. Wij hebben 10 dagen genoten.

In le Pidro en de tuin voelden we ons meteen thuis door de ligging, de inrichting en de gastvrijheid van Paula. Het huis is goed verzorgd, heeft de noodzakelijke benodigdheden en de tuin heeft mooie plekken om te zitten en te luieren. Wat ons betreft verdient de tuin wel wat beter buitenmeubilair zoals comfortabelere (verstelbare) (lig) stoelen. Dit zou onze tip zijn met eventueel een tweede tafel, voor het gemak en om met zijn vijven wat minder krap te zitten. Onze zoons hebben heerlijk gespeeld in de beek. Het is een mooie plek voor wandelingen en uitstapjes, al blijken de paden niet overal (meer) te kloppen: tip voor de volgende huurders is vooral gemarkeerde wandelingen te lopen en niet teveel op andere weggetjes op de topografische kaart te vertrouwen.

We hebben gedurende 3 weken met veel plezier gebruik gemaakt van Le Pidro Tourne in Castelnau Durban van mevrouw Paula Chatlani.Het huis zelf is comfortabel ,schoon en biedt de gelegenheid om daar ook overdag in alle vrijheid op een prettige manier te verblijven.
Het terras bij het huis biedt het zicht op een passende achtertuin met het geluid van een klaterend beekje waarin zo zagen we , de ijsvogel van tijd tot tijd haar visjes uit opdiept .De omgeving is prachtig en biedt voor elk wat wils : bezienswaardige dorpen, een interessante hoofdstad Foix met een grote boeiende markt, grotten met zeer oude bezienswaardige tekeningen uit de prehistorie ( o.a. Niaux) en de mogelijkheid om het laatste bolwerk van de Katharen te bezoeken na een uitdagende wandeling (Montsegur). Al met al een heel fijne vakantie!Comment from paula chatlani

Restaurants, food & wine
Locally produced cheese, wine, meat and vegetables, easily purchased from the many local markets. "Le Pidro"provides a very calm and tranquil base from which to experience the different flavours of the region.
Activities
The GR10 can be accessed directly from the house-but it is about 6 hours on foot. There are many walks of astounding beauty that can be made directly from the house. Beautiful wild flowers in spring, stunning walks in summer cooled by the forest. The voie verte is a recently opened 42km route reserved for cyclists and walkers running from St Girons and Foix accessed at Castelnau Durban and is wonderful at all times of year. In the cottage you will find guides and maps with local attractions and walks.
With no pollution the River runs clear and the nights sky bright for star gazers.
The house is fully in natural beauty. A treasure trove of fauna and flora, wild life, bird life, a virtually untouched part of the national park.
Many local activities and historic sites are under 3O mins drive. There is lots to see and do in the area. Many outdoor sporting activities, historical castles and towns.
