Our small hamlet consists of three houses and three barns is located 800 meters above sea level in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Ariège Pyrenees. Surrounded by meadows where pasture cows, horses and woods, this small hamlet sits on a small sunny plateau overlooking the valley of Garbet, just opposite the majestic Mont Valier iconic summit of Couserans 2838 m. Our houses in natural stone, wood and slate have been restored with love and work for thirty years. A lot of involvement also for the big flower garden. Our ecological commitment allows the local flora and fauna to find refuge in Anilac. We have many birds nesting here, lizards that bask in the sun, salamanders that show up after the rain, squirrels that jump from tree to tree, sometimes we can even see one or two eagles flying over Anilac, the roe deer show up in the autumn, orchids proliferate in the spring, etc… - In the houses you will find all the modern comfort, even the wi-fi…

We had a lovely holiday in Anilac. The gite was comfortable with a very beautiful garden. The location was perfect, peaceful and quiet but not to far away from the supermarket or restaurants. A good starting point to explore the pyrenees.

Le Valier turned out to be a lovely quiet gite with magnificant view on the peaks of the Pyrenees.
Yvelise and Peter have created a true paradise in the small hamlet of Anilac.

Ariege is a country with a very old history, it has been habited since a long time, so we have several caves to visit like the Grotte de Niaux or Mas d'Azil, villages or castles from the middle Age like Mirepoix or Château de Foix, little romane churches, château de Monségur, Saint Lizier, Carcassonne …....
Activities
For your excursions, the surrounding mountains are ideal for gentle walks to admire the first orchids of springtime or search for wild mushrooms. For the more sportive among you there are numerous mountain bike trails around Anilac, a kayaking centre is 6 km away, a horseriding centre is a 20 minute walk away through the woods or 8 km by car. Paragliding, rock climbing and golf can be practiced in the Couserans, and of course the many rivers and streams will delight fisherman.
Points of departure for mountain hiking are just a few kilometres away. The Guzet-Neige ski station is 25 km from Anilac. fisherman will also be delighted here with the abundant trout in the many rivers, streams and mountain lakes nearby.
Anilac is ideally situated for cycling. For mountain biking, there are numerous waymarked circuits and the tourist office in Seix has published topoguides for them. For cycle touring, all around us are cols well known by fans of the Tour de France: Col d'Agnès (21 km), Col de Port (38 km), Col de la Core (20 km), Col de Péguère (28 km), Col de Mente (69 km), Col de Portet d'Aspet (53 km) Plateau de Beille (70 km). About 20 kms away in the foothills are less difficult circuits but with lovely views and quiet roads.
Pamphlets and brochures on the tourist sites in Ariège, magazines on the Pyrenees and hiking maps are freely available in the gîtes, and we will be happy to offer advice for planning your excursions.

Additional price info and offers
It was in 1981, after travels around the world, that we discovered Anilac one beautiful September morning. The impressive Mont Valier before us, majestic and imposing, flooded with the first rays of the sun, its feet in a sea of clouds and around us the hamlet of Anilac, abandoned and practically in ruins. It was love at first sight.
There followed thirty years of enormous work to restore a part of the hamlet and the garden. A life of labour but happy and peaceful. We still rise some mornings and instantly reach for the camera in order to immortalise these magical moments.
We have never regretted our decision to buy this enchanting place.
