The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

Le Petit Ermite is a small-scale holiday accommodation in the Pyrenees, where two detached tiny-houses are situated on a terrain of 2000 m2. Both gîtes have a unique direct view of the old château of Puilaurens, one of the last Cathar strongholds. This castle is on the waiting list to become UNESCO heritage and is also a feast for the eyes during the night, because it won the second prize for the most beautifully lit castles in France. The site borders an ancient forest of more than 1000 hectares and offers you a relaxing view on the mountains. A few evenings a week it is possible to order a vegetarian takeaway meal, which can also be served in the garden or at the gte if desired. The menu price is between 15 and 25 euros. We don’t serve breakfast.

"La Colombe" is a cozy tiny house, equipped with a double bed, sitting area consisting of a table with two chairs, a kitchen corner (with a little stove and a fridge), and a bathroom with toilet, sink and walk-in shower, where also a hair dryer can be found. Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Outside and from the bed, you have a direct view of the château. You have also access to WiFi. Outside in the garden there is a set of two wonderful sun beds and you can also use other seating areas in the garden.
You can park your car or bus on site at the terrain near the gîtes, large buses/campers can be parked on a parking space within a short walking distance. In the picturesque village you find a grocery store within walking distance where you can buy fresh bread daily. You can swim in the nearby area, for example in the natural waters of the beautiful Gorges or at a swimming paradise that is open during summer in a nearby village. It is not allowed to bring pets.

Le Petit Ermite is a place where you can relax. You can go to special places during day trips, such as the famous Rennes-le-Château about which Dan Brown wrote in the Da Vinci Code. You can visit the special mountain of Bugarach and also view other locations where Cathars and Templars left their marks. We have multilingual folders available in which we describe all kinds of nice places and this can help you to experience a very nice holiday. What to think of the old hermits church that is made in a rock in the Gorges? Wouldn't it be nice to explore a wild cave in which a hermit has lived for a long time? We know where these kinds of locations can be found and are happy to provide you with advice. Excursions to larger cities are also possible, such as the pleasant city of Perpignan and the impressive medieval citadel of Carcassonne. In the south people like to celebrate and through an online calendar we will keep you also informed of these kinds of events.

Restaurants, food & wine

Because the tiny house has a kitchen corner, you can cook in your own gîte with delicious products that are available, because many organic products are sold in this area.
You can find a large amount of restaurants in this area where you can enjoy the culinary qualities of French chefs.
Grapes can ripen well in the Pyrenees thanks to the healthy air and the wonderful sun that is showing it's light so often here. In the vicinity you will find all kinds of wine producers where you can taste and purchase the various wines of this region. The Languedoc is characterized by globally known wines, of which the Blanquette and the Crémant de Limoux are well-known examples. A tourist train travels regularly through this region (le Train Rouge), and sometimes this Train Rouge offers theme days, where you can go for a wine tasting and then after a tour through the mountains have a dinner in a local restaurant.

Activities

Those who enjoy active activities can go rafting, canoeing, horse riding and climbing in the area. The whole area is perfect for beautiful walks through the old heritage that is so well preserved and cherished by the French people. You can walk through the mysterious forest (the fôret des Fanges) that borders our terrain where special flora and founa can be found and you can also seek paths in the mountains where traces of ancient civilization can be found. You can visit the old château from which you have a view on and castle lovers can also view the other castles of the region, such as Quéribus, Peyrepertuse, Montségur, Chalabre and Arques by using an address list provided by us. In the information folder that we make available to you, you will also find all kinds of descriptions of other special locations that you can visit in this region.
Cyclists, mountain bikers and motorcyclists can also enjoy tours through the mountains, because even in the remote parts of this region the road surface is good.
You can also participate in activities on the site of Le Petit Ermite, but these must be reserved in advance. Monique provides intuitive painting courses.
