The house
The holiday home is part of the 18th-century manor house.
Your hosts live in the adjoining rooms of the farmhouse. Your privacy is fully guaranteed.
An old stone staircase leads you via the balcony into 1 large pleasant renovated room of 50m2 with kitchen, dining table, lounge, wood-burning stove.
The floor is a traditional oak parquet and the original beams give extra character to this room. The thick natural stone walls ensure that even in the hottest summer it always remains very pleasant.
You will still be able to admire the original built-in cupboards from the 18th century.
The renovated kitchen is fully equipped with oven, cooker, dishwasher and all necessary kitchen utensils.
There is a TV in the lounge and Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.
The stairs lead you to 2 spacious bedrooms, in the hallway there is spacious bathroom with shower, bath and a separate toilet. The bedrooms each have 2 large and comfortable 220 cm beds.
In one room there is a sofa that can be used as an extra bed once unfolded. In the other room a single bed can be placed if desired.
Both bedrooms have plenty of light thanks to 2 velux windows (opening and darkening via remote control), you will be able to admire the stars from your bed at night.
The bathroom has a rain shower, bathtub and 2 artisanal stone washbasins.

Myriam and Piet welcome you to our small village of Vabre, in a haven of peace with a beautiful view of the meadows next door, the valley, the Bois du Bruel. Recharge your batteries with us. You will stay in a farmhouse (18th century), where 2 rooms and the ground floor have been renovated with respect for tradition and with sustainable quality materials.
Relax in the garden, in the hammock, eat well, walk, cycle, discover beautiful villages of the region, real holidays in other words.
At the front of the house there is a pleasant balcony overlooking the 2 barns and the meadows, and in the evening there is long sun here.
At the back (shared with us) you have morning and afternoon sun and here you will find flowers in the garden with a lawn and old apple and pear trees. Here you are sure to find a place to relax in the sun or shade. We have provided four different terraces and 3 hammocks.
There is also a large vegetable garden (you can buy fresh vegetables directly from us), a berry garden, a herb garden and a new orchard with 65 trees.
You can walk on the 7ha site down into the valley in the horse pastures.
Further down, there is another wood with a small stream where you will certainly appreciate the silence.

Wij verbleven juli 2023 een week in deze fraai gerestaureerde woning. Beneden is een grote eettafel en prettige zithoek. Keuken is voorzien van de normaal benodigde apparatuur, grote koelkast, magnetron en een goede vaatwasmachine.
Sterk punt van de woning wordt gevormd door de twee zeer ruime slaapkamers, met ruime tot zeer ruime bedden die – niet echt Frans – bijzonder comfortabele matrassen hebben. De badkamer is luxer uitgevoerd dan in de meeste vakantiewoningen.
De woning heeft geen terras voor de deur, maar wel veel zitmogelijkheden in de grote tuin. Op het bankje naast de voordeur is heerlijk genieten van de avondzon.
Piet en Myriam geven je alle informatie die je nodig hebt en hebben goede tips voor wat je kunt zien in de omgeving. Een week was eigenlijk te kort voor het bezoek aan deze streek waar weinig Nederlandse toeristen komen. Genoeg redenen om hier nog eens terug te keren.Comment from piet arickx
Dank je wel voor het commentaar van jullie verblijf bij ons, jullie waren prima gasten en we zijn blij dat jullie genoten hebben van ons vakantiehuis, de tuin. Onze streek is inderdaad nog een onontdekt stukje Frankrijk voor de meeste Nederlanders en Belgen, maar onterecht, want hier zijn veel sportieve activiteiten mogelijk, mooie dorpjes, leuke marktjes met de typisch Franse ambiance. Alle seizoenen hebben hier hun charme.
Restaurants, food & wine
The Aveyron is known for its good food and quality of life. You will taste the small scale and passion in the various products (cheese, honey, charcuterie, traditional specialities like farcous, gateau a la broche) at local markets. In summer, there are many evening markets at long tables in market places where everyone sits down together with always music in the background. Lovely summer evenings they are. We ourselves also attend such markets with our artisan chocolate cakes.
Roquefort cheese is pre-eminently the cheese everyone knows, but around our village there are fantastic cheeses to be had, just ask, we will give you the info.
We are between 2 great wine regions (Gaillac and Cahors), both very tasty wines with their own individuality. And since you are staying with Belgians, Belgian beer will not be lacking in the cellar.
There is a BBQ and campfire on site, so in the evenings you can cook for yourself under the starry sky (which is spectacular, by the way) and if you just want to join us, we can provide this for you too.
We have a large vegetable garden / orchard from which we can share everything depending on the stock. Fresh and naturally grown, directly on the plate.
Dinner provided by us is possible, price for 2 courses = 20 Euro/person, for 3 courses = 25 Euro/person. As much as possible from our own vegetable garden, locally bought and organic.
We can also offer a gastronomic menu for special occasions : 35 Euro/person.
From November to +/* Easter, you can also taste and buy our home-made chocolate pralines.
Your host has trained as a chef - chocolatier.
Activities
We live in the west of the Aveyron where you can easily visit four departments : the Aveyron, Tarn, Lot and Tarn et Garonne.
Starting from our place, you can make beautiful walks in the area.
Also small walks on our domain of 8 ha between the horses' pastures.
We have many walking routes and guides of the area that you can use and we are happy to give you suggestions with possible transport of your starting and finishing point, there is a long-distance path not far from us. You will be able to hike in peace and quiet, they are not well-trodden paths with mass tourism.
We can also provide you with information on ethological work with horses. We offer several opportunities to get acquainted with an emphasis on 'natural horsemanship',
A chocolate making workshop is possible (depending on the season when you come), you can put together your own homemade chocolates and take them with you.
Experienced cyclists will feel like royalty here, many small roads with little traffic.
Mountain bikes can be hired from one of the organisations and there are marked routes not far from us.
We have no swimming pool at the house, but you can swim nearby in two fantastic rivers (Aveyron-Viaur), a 20-minute drive from us.
We have since discovered spots where you can bathe privately.
Kayaking or via standup paddle on the Aveyron is one of the musts in summer : in Najac, Saint Antonin Noble Val or on the Lot.
In Najac there is a multisport organisation that also offers rock climbing, via ferrata and has an adventure park.
There is the famous animal park of Pradinas for children, highly recommended.
Within half an hour from us you can visit beautiful towns like Villefranche de Rouergue, Najac, Rieupeyroux, Belcastel.
Within 45 minutes you can be in Cordes sur Ciel, Rodez, Peyrusse Le Roc, Saint Antonin Noble Val, Penne and other small charming villages.
Not to be missed are the legendary summer markets that evoke the typical southern French atmosphere. Especially in summer, there are many village festivals with musical performances.
Figeac also has beautiful museums and is fun to stroll around.

Further remarks
We have private parking next to the house, where you can park safely. Next to this, we also have a hangar for any bicycles or motorbikes.
In the grounds you will find 3 lovely cats, a dog, 4 happy chickens and a cockerel roaming free. Pets are allowed after prior consultation.
On the meadows we have 2 horses and a shetland pony.
