The house
The ancient Château du Fraissinet was registered in 1640 as a fortified farm presided over by a Seigneur. Today the château has six independent gites offering attractive holiday accommodation. Les Tilleuls (shown) is one of our delightful family gites. It features a large living area with a comfortable sofa, a dining table and a fully-equipped kitchen area. French doors lead out to a raised wooden terrace with views across the garden and into the chestnut woods.There is also an outside dining table, chairs and parasol.
The two bedrooms are downstairs and stay nice and cool for a goods night's sleep - even in the hottest weather. The main bedroom is stone vaulted and is on the lower floor with a small window and a door out into the courtyard. The family bedroom is on the middle floor. This room had a large window and a separate wc with wash hand basin. This gite works really well for families or two couples sharing.

Na twee weken heerlijk ontspannen thuisgekomen. Alles wat we nodig hadden was aanwezig in de gîte en omdat er verder maar twee andere gasten waren, hadden wij het hele terras ter grootte van een flinke balzaal voor onszelf. Het zwembad was ook mooi en met rechte wanden, zodat je er echt in kan zwemmen.
Vanaf de oprit ziet het huis er echt prachtig uit met de bomen op de achtergrond, precies zoals op de foto.
De ontvangst was ook zeer vriendelijk en ontspannen. Alice en Chris zijn er wanneer je ze nodig hebt, maar dringen zichzelf zeker niet op. De yogales was ook leuk om een keer mee te maken.
In de omgeving is ook genoeg te doen zonder dat je auto voor alles nodig hebt. Van het mapje met wandelingen in de omgeving hebben wij ruim gebruik gemaakt. Van dorpswandeling tot boswandeling, allemaal goed te doen en ook goed gemarkeerd.Comment from Chris and Alison Burns

We hebben twee heerlijke weken gehad op het chateau. Het Chateau appartement was ruim, koel en van alle gemakken voorzien. Een aparte badkamer voor onze dochters was heerlijk! Het eigen patio terras was een fijne plek in de schaduw om te ontbijten en om 's avonds te dineren. Het zwembad gaf de nodige afkoeling net als de rivier naast het huis. Onze dochters hebben zich daar uren vermaakt met het bouwen van dammen en zwemmen in de rivier. En dan die rust; zo fijn na een drukke periode op het werk en op school! Aanrader!

We stayed a week with 4 in the gîte Les Chataigners. Wich was a very cozy gîte, with all necessities (dishwasher, oven, hairdryer, coffee machine), you also have your own terrace where you had enough privacy for yourself. Very nice to sit outside late at night.
The place itself was quite nice and big, pool and private stream were refreshing. You are there with 5/6 other families, but you will certainly not be bothered by this, the pool is also large enough to share with other families.
Chris & Allison themselves are very homely there is a very free and relaxing atmosphere, there are also 2 dogs accompanying the place. This makes it all very soothing.
Only feedback was that there were no mosquito nets, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but then you are sometimes full of mosquito bites.
Everything else was fine and we certainly enjoyed it!

Restaurants, food & wine
Our local 'Auberge du Fraissinet' is just a 300m walk along the river bank. There is also a local bar at the top of the lane and a small campsite opposite which has a snack bar. There are several other restaurants close by which serve good local cuisine.
There is an excellent twice weekly market in the nearby town which sells local produce including honey and pelardon - goats cheese - which is a regional speciality.
Activities
Chateau du Fraissinet is close (2km) to the lac Camboux where you can fish, swim, hire a kayak and pedalo. You can also swim, paddle and fish in the river Gardon which borders the property. Alison is a qualified yoga teacher and there are weekly yoga sessions in high season. Within easy reach (30 - 45 mins) are the Ardeche, Tarn and Ceze rivers where you can also kayak. There are several stunning caves to visit as well as the historic towns of Nimes, Montpellier, Avignon and Uzes. The iconic Roman Pont du Gard is also nearby. Just a short drive away (30mins) we also have a choice of Forest parks, where kids and adults can test their nerve on zip wires and rope works.
We are also just 90 minutes away from the Mediterranean sea with the beaches of l'Espiguette and le Grau du Roi being popular day trips for our guests.
There are lots of walks locally with the Cevennes National Park beginning at the edge of the property.

Further remarks
Chateau du Fraissinet is a perfect place for a family holiday. There is a fantastic low-chlorine pool with a shallower pool and a 'stream' for small children to play in. Lots of space (2 hectares) for children to play and explore, and a river running along the property for fishing, swimming, paddling or inflatable boats.

Notes on accommodation:
The quoted prices are inclusive of end of stay cleaning charge. A linen pack is available for hire at 20€ per person per week. This includes bed linen, a shower and hand towel. Guests are asked to bring their own towel for swimming. Alternatively one can be hired for an additional 5€ per week.
A cot with bed linen and a high chair are available free of charge. Gas and electricity are included in the price and each gite is supplied with tea towels and oven gloves. Wood can be supplied for the fires for a small charge. Charcoal only for bbq's is permitted in high season for security reasons.
Outside:
Each gite has it's own outside dining area complete with table, chairs, parasol and a BBQ or chiminea.
Filled with natural spring water the BIO UVC pool is a massive hit with holidaymakers of all ages. The pool utilises the latest technology in water purification treatment to keep chemical use to an absolute minimum. A 75w Bio-UVC Germicidal Lamp is used which kills harmful biological contaminants much more effectively than any other known treatment. This works together with low levels of chlorine and chemicals to keep the pool looking its best. The pool area is gated and fenced. Main pool measures 12m x 5m x 1.4m. There is a shallow splash pool for small children and a spa pool. The large surface area of the shallow pools and connecting channel helps heat and regulate the water temperature. Sun loungers and chairs are provided.
