The house
This is a large ground-floor apartment - It has 2 ensuite bedrooms plus a comfortable sofa bed .
Bedrooms: 1 Double Bedroom, 1 Twin Bedroom. Also full size comfortable sofa bed in the living room.
Bathrooms: 2 Shower rooms en-suite, 1 Separate WC.
Kitchen: Oven, Hob, Microwave, Fridge-Freezer, Dishwasher, Toaster, Kettle, Coffee maker, Washing machine.
Apartment Cerise has a large private terrace to the side with built in barbecue. The terrace is on the side of the building which receives the most afternoon & evening sunshine so it is ideal for outdoor dining . While it has not been specifically adapted for wheelchair use this apartment is quite suitable for wheelchair users as it is large (93 square metres) and there are no narrow corridors or tight turns .
Linen and towels are provided.
Central Heating. Air-conditioning is not required as the walls are solid stone & 1 metre thick. Because of this the building stays cool in Summer & warm in the mild Winter months.
Free WiFi internet, UK satellite TV channels & radio stations as well as digital French TV.
Outside we have a large 12m x 6m swimming pool with a shallow kids area, sun loungers, tables, chairs & parasols. The pool area is fully fenced & gated to ensure child safety at all times. Our pool is open from early May until October. There is also a pool house with comfortable chairs.

On the cross-roads at the centre of the small village of Canaules, in the heart of the Languedoc wine producing region. At the edge of the Cevennes national park and close to the medieval towns of Anduze, Sauve, and Vezenobres. Canaules is 30 minutes from Nîmes & just 1 hour from Montpellier . Ales which is just a 15 minute drive away has all of the shopping & entertainment options you would find in any city of it's size . It has a lovely river beach with evening entertainment during Summer as well. Nimes , Montpellier & Marseilles are just 3 of the cities which are easily reached as well as the beaches on the coast which are within 1 hour drive . In Winter the skiing in the Cevennes is within reach also. The Ski resort of Prat Peyrot – Mont Aigoual is a 90 minute drive while the other Cevennes ski resort of Bleymard Mont Lozère is just a 2 hour drive away.

Ondanks twee keer vragen naar een adres kreeg ik dat niet. De code voor het sleutel kastje klopte niet. Het is maar wat je schoon noemt. En, ondanks dat ik te horen kreeg als ik een vraag of meer had, mij moest melden. Ik stel een vraag en krijg geen antwoord.
Mijn advies mijdt deze gite of hoe de locatie wilt noemen.

Restaurants, food & wine
Every village in the area has at least one 'wine cave' sometimes 2 or 3. There are a number of restaurants nearby, including our own village café 'Le Canaules' which is less than a minute's walk from your apartment . Just a 3 minute drive away in Saint-Jean-de-Serres you can visit 'Les Platanes' Restaurant & bar . For really good pizza you should visit Pizzeria Dall'Innamorato (5 minutes drive) in nearby Lézan . A 15 minute drive will bring you to the lovely tourist town of Anduze. Anduze is known as the gateway to the Cevennes and it has a number of reasonably priced family restaurants along both sides of the main street as well as some real gems hidden among it's narrow side streets . Local markets are a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, as are the local road-side stalls. Visit the markets, of Úzes , Sommières, Quissac, and St Jean du Gard for a taste of 'la vraie France'.
Activities
La Bastide des Lavandieres is located in the village of Canaules deep in the Languedoc wine producing region of the south of France. The village is in the foothills of the Cevennes and near the towns of Alés and Anduze as well as the cities of Nîmes & Montpellier. Apartment Cerise is one of six, in a recently renovated 19th century Bastide. The Cevennes, offer river swimming, kayaking, hiking , cycling and many other outdoor activities.
Canaules is a typical French village - small but full of character . It is close to a number of larger villages & small towns as well as numerous vineyards - many of which welcome visitors . Guests are very welcome to come & visit our friends the Plagne family at the nearby Domaine de la Vallière and also the Chardonnaud family at Domaine les Vieux Foudres . Both vineyards are delighted to welcome our guests for tastings , tours etc . In fact most local vineyards are happy to have visitors .

Further remarks
For over a century & a half La Bastide des Lavandieres has been a prominent feature in the small village of Canaules . Originally constructed in 1850 it has had a few different & diverse existenses during the intervening years . At various times during the 175 years or so it has been here the building has served the village as both a small hotel , a cafe & during the 50's & 60's - a chique French nightclub . Canaules is now a quiet village but during this period it was actually known as "The Saint-Tropez of the Cevennes" Among some of the high profile personalities who performed there was the French Elvis - Johnny Hallyday . He may not be widely known outside of France but he had over 50 years of a career in music & now even after his death in 2017 he is still one of France's biggest selling recording artists having sold in excess of 100 million records . Other famous French singers performed in Canaules also including Jacques Brel , Francoise Hardy & Charles Aznavour . So keep in mind during your stay that you will be sharing a space that was previously occupied by some of the most famous singers ever .
