The house
The self-catering apartment (80m2), with fully equipped separate kitchen (dish washer, oven, micro wave, gas stove, first essentials like coffee and tea, herbs & spices) has two bedrooms for maximum 5 people.
Each bedroom has 2x single beds (boxspring extra longue 2.10cm, plus 1x sofabed-1.30cmx1.90cm) -which can be made into a double bed upon request- and private bathroom (1x shower/bathtub/toilet and 1x shower only/toilet), The apartment has a covered veranda with garden furniture, independent entrance, picnic table, barbecue, overlooking the garden and has a separate entrance. Rooms are decorated with attention for details with many treasures found on local "brocantes" and "vide-greniers".

The house is facing south and has been decorated in Mediterranean style and colors. In the garden is a beautiful kidney shaped swimming pool of 4m x 9m. It originally was a typical Gascony style "fermette"(small farm) with oak beam and clay walls and during recent renovations, this style has been preserved to this day. First mention of the house was in the 12th century and throughout it's history and many wars, has served as a 'safe house'. It is surrounded by organic farm fields and has no direct neighboring houses. The area is very hilly with many small rivers and lakes and in the distance the snow capped Pyrenees mountains.

Wij hebben vorig jaar in maart voor de vierde keer op deze prachtige locatie geboekt. Wij vinden hier rust, prachtige natuur, vriendelijke dorpjes, leuke marktjes, vriendelijke mensen en ook mooie steden binnen handbereik. Berdoues is een erg mooie plek en er zijn leuke verrassende restaurants in de nabijheid. En dan de gastvrijheid van Charles en Caroline; een warm bad! Ze zijn op de achtergrond aanwezig en bieden comfort maar ik heb nooit het idee geen privacy te hebben. Knap en prettig hoe ze dit doen!

Dank je Eva en Sander. Dit bericht beschrijft precies wat we hopen dat mensen kunnen ervaren hier : ”Unplug in the Gers”…..heerlijk ontspannen in een kalme oase van rust.

Wij komen al jaren bij Charles en Caroline. Vanaf de eerste keer was het liefde op het eerste gezicht, en sindsdien voelt het elke keer weer als thuiskomen…Een heerlijk paradijsje midden in het groen! Niks moet, lekker nonchalant sfeertje, en Charles en Caroline zijn zo’n lieve, warme mensen! 15 jaar geleden kwamen we nog alleen, ondertussen zijn er 4 zonen bijgekomen, en ook voor hen voelt het als een tweede thuis! De gites zelf zijn ook heel fijn ingericht en brengen je meteen in vakantiesfeer!

De sfeer is op en rond het domein ronduit grandioos-vrijheid en leefplezzier staan hoog in het vaandel!
Als gastheer en gastvrouw voelen jullie precies aan wat gewenst is: een heerlijk vrij-en prettig vakantiegevoel.
Daarnaast ook een leuk contact, zoals gewenst. De huiselijke sfeer door de beestenboel, hond(en) en poezen was voor ons een positieve bijdrage.

Local specialties
Next to the famous Armagnac, some other special regional drinks or ‘special Gersois’ are , Le Pousse-Rapière (Armagnac and a vin sauvage or bubbly) and Floc de Gascogne (liqueur which is great in combination with Foie Gras). Most of the wine region is in west part of the Gers i.e. the Madiran region. We can always have you taste the wine served in the Salon Rouge. You write down what you have consumed and at the end of your visit we add it to your bill. Les spécialités de la région Midi-Pyrénées are foie gras, truffels, Roquefort cheese, prunes from Agen.
Restaurants in the neighborhood.
The Brasserie des Arts is our favorite in Mirande, La Petite Auberge, le Monde d'Envers in Marciac or the simple cafe in Bassoues with a great terrace are some restaurants to go to. Or try a Ferme-Auberge, a farm which has a simple restaurant offering regional and it own produced foods. Ask us about our shortlist or look at our website under activities. We also recommend to do as the French do and that is, to have a lovely long and hot lunch and eat light at night. A 3-course warm lunch can be found everywhere in the area for as little as 10€ per person, including wine! We have several folders with recommended activities and restaurants and are happy to assist and make a reservation for you.
Activities
The Gers regio, where mass tourism has not yet infiltrated, is a region with more than 500 castles and 400 lakes.The region is also known for its purest air quality within Europe. On Monday and Saturday there is a farmers’ market in Mirande (4km/2,5mi), on Thursday in Auch (20km/17mi). During the summer various festivals are organized, i.e. the Country-Western Festival in Mirande and the world-famous Jazz Festival in Marciac (20km/17 mi) in July and August. There are many lakes in the area and 3 golf courses, one only 15 minutes away at the beautiful Château ‘La Pallanne’ (18-hole course at Château La Pallane including great restaurant "Racine" for lunch). Lots of recreational activities are possible from hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, cross country by jeep to flying sports planes; a true paradise for the adventure seeker. Directly around the house are gently sloping hills and on a clear day, the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees are visible. Several ski resorts are nearby like Le Mongie or Le Tourmalet. Bicycles available for free. Festivals in Summer such as Jazz in Marciac, Salsa festival Tempo Latino and Country Western festival are all held nearby. Owners are happy to assist with daily activity planning! Charles and Caroline will be happy to share their favorite activities (restaurant short list) and even help assist in making reservations. Several mountain bikes available to explore the nearby villages and forest.

Unique is that you can also reserve a treatment or shiatsu massage during your stay as there is a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medecine) practice located at the house!

High season is from June 1 until September 30. The cottage has 2 bedrooms (1 for 2 people the other for 3 people), with a fully equipped separate kitchen and a kitchenette. Sofa bed can be made upon request for 25€. Linen is included (Please bring towels for the pool) beds made upon arrival and included in the price. High chair and babycot are free and available upon request. Washing machine(shared) available for 4€ a load. Daily Bread delivery service available, free WIFI, no TV in rooms , shared plancha and barbecue.Less suitable for children under 8 years old. Booked two weeks? You have a choice to change all linen for 25€ per room.
