The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

Tournesol is the first of three gites on the complex and has lovely far reaching views. The house is entered via a private patio area which has a table and seating for 6. A BBQ is provided and a sun canopy with outside lighting ensuring the perfect ambience for al fresco dining. Views from this patio are stunning and stretch for miles over the surrounding area. Through the front door you enter the focal centre of the house, the large kitchen diner. The kitchen is fitted to a very high standard with separate freezer and fridge, dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and gas hob with extractor. It is fully stocked to enable full cooking facilities including over work-top lighting. Open stonework and beams combine with the oak dining table and chairs to provide a wonderful setting.

Through the kitchen is the salon providing a lovely cool area to relax with ample seating for 6,,. Just off the salon is the hydro-wet room + WC, providing a new experience in bathing and relaxation. Up the restored chestnut staircase leading from the kitchen you reach the two large bedrooms and family bathroom. The large master bedroom is full of character and offers a relaxing calm environment. Built-in wardrobe and enclosed shelving provide ample room to get all your luggage tucked away. (There is plenty of space for an infant cot or 2!). The second bedroom is fitted with 3 single beds, 2 chest of drawers and a large fitted wardrobe. Both bedrooms have lovely views across the countryside. The modern tiled bathroom has a full size bath, sink and WC.

In the grounds you will find the newly renovated 12mx6m swimming pool. It has a large 1m deep area entered by semi circular steps providing a large safe area for less confident swimmers. This slopes away to a final depth of 2m allowing for those who like to dive. Lots of room to play but great for serious swimmers too. There is ample pool furniture available so you can enjoy relaxing and taking in the breath-taking views across the Viaur Gorge.
Please note the pool and grounds are shared with the two other gites on the property.

Set in outstanding scenery overlooking the Viaur Gorge this beautifully restored former farm offers three lovely gites having traditional architecture whilst providing all the modern comforts of home. The farm complex is situated on the edge of a small hamlet. The hamlet is located on the border of the Aveyron and Tarn departments offering easy access to all that these fabulously unspoilt departments have to offer.
Situated half way between the historic departmental cities of Rodez and Albi means easy access to both of these fabulous cities which provide wonderful architecture, rambling backstreets and dozens of pavement cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets. In the immediate area are a number of bastide towns, Sauveterre, Monesties, and of course the well know Cordes-sur-Ciel.

Restaurants, food & wine

New for 2021 we have a little auberge opening in the hamlet who serve excellent food supplied mostly from their garden. They also sell baskets of seasonal vegetable starting from 15€. There are plenty of restaurants in the local area offering simple low-cost all inclusive menus (from €10) to high dining with the best France has to offer! The choice is yours. The local wine is Giallac and we are still looking for a disappointing one!

Activities

Walking -The countryside around the property offers superb walking environments with a whole wealth of flora and fauna. Waymarked paths are accessible from the property.

Cycling - not for the novice, but the quiet country roads offer serious cyclists an ideal area to explore.
Children - we are 20mins from the Cap de Couverte complex - an amazing convertion of a disused opencast mine, offering dryslope skiing, skateboard/bike park, luge, longest zip -line ride in europe, swimming, horseriding and waterskiing. 15mins from a large lake offering a beach, supervised swimming areas, windsurfing, sailing, fishing + canoeing. 4 mins away from Viaur river for fishing and canoes to hire.

There are numerous animal parks and small zoos in easy reach, including the unique Micropolis insect park. There are local horse riding schools for trekking. And during the high season there is a market available on a daily basis at one of the nearby towns, including nocturnal farmers markets.

Further remarks

If you don’t know the area it is well worth the effort to discover. If you have been already - then it speaks for itself. Ripe for tourism but as yet unspoilt, our visitors are amazed at how much there is to do and see here - and yet you remain in a very traditional unique area of rural France.
