The house
Villa Sainte-Marie in Sanssat is a former hospice, built around 1900. It was built under architecture by architect Paul Noailly at the time. After 2 years of renovation, our beautiful monumental villa will be ready to be rented out in 2023.
You rent the main house (maison maitre) of the complex. The domaine is exclusive to your party. The main house consists of 2 large double bedrooms (queen-size beds) a double bedroom and a single bedroom. There are 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, dining room and study. Very special is the chapel. Its restoration has yet to begin. The garden surrounds the house and is completely walled in. At the back is a covered terrace adjacent to the kitchen.

The villa is located on the edge of a small village in the Allier. From the house you walk straight into the hills on country roads or paths. A 10-minute drive away is the river Allier. There are many pretty villages in the area, e.g. Montaigu-le-blin. The hilly landscape, the villages and the many castles and country houses make it a beautiful area to explore. Ideal for holidaymakers who love peace and quiet, space, culture and outdoor life.

Restaurants, food & wine
Nearby is the most famous wine region "Saint-Pourçain". Here you can visit interesting winemakers who produce wines with the region's grape varieties. Some winemakers are experimenting with innovative ways of production. There are also many farmers who sell their own products such as (goat) cheeses, meat, poultry, honey, vegetables, escargots, etc. In the town of Saint Pourçain, there are cooperatives where wines and local products are sold collectively. To the north, at a somewhat greater distance, are the Burgundy and Sancerre wine regions.
There are good restaurants in the area, e.g. in Billy, Montaigu-le-blin and of course in Vichy. There you will find a Michelin-starred restaurant, among others.
Activities
The villa is located in a small village in the Allier. The hilly surroundings, the river Allier and beautiful towns and villages make it a very attractive holiday environment. In particular, the city of Vichy and (a bit further away) Clermont-Ferrand and Moulins are wonderful to visit. Vichy is an undiscovered gem and designated a Unesco World Heritage Site due to its status as a spa town. The city centre has many architectural gems. The promenade along the river is not only great fun to hang out but also lends itself to water sports such as sailing and canoeing.
There are also fun things for children to do in the area. Think of the animal park/attraction park Le Pal about half an hour away. Or the water-ski course about 10 minutes' drive away. In short, an ideal area for young and old, especially for those looking for beautiful French countryside, culture and undiscovered villages!
