The house
Downstairs are two bedrooms with doors to the terrace, a spacious bathroom with bath, shower over it, washbasin and toilet and there is a second toilet. A spiral staircase connects the ground and upper floors. Upstairs is the living area with an integrated L-shaped kitchen and a wood-burning stove. On the roof are solar collectors for the hot water and underfloor heating.

The Gîte is situated at a dead end street near the route des crêtes in the vallée de la Jordanne. The two centuries old barn has been completely renovated into a beautiful 4-persons holiday home with a fabulous view on the Monts du Cantal. On the grounds (1000 m2) is a terrace and parking.

Description and distance from ski station
Area: Le Lioran
distance: 15 - maximum 30 kms near skiing
There are cross-country skiing tracks at 15 km. Snowshoeing is possible directly from Le Grangeou. We have the material for rent. For alpine skiing there is the ski area at the Lioran about 25 km from us. Public transport is poor here. You always need a car, if only to get to Aurillac. From there a train goes to the ski slopes. In that case, there is a reduction on the use of the ski lift. The journey to de Lioran easily takes an hour. A more short route goes over the Col de Perthus. This col is kept open as much as possible but without special facilities like snow tyres the transition is sometimes difficult.
Restaurants, food & wine
In the immediate vicinity, there are a few restaurants and auberges that serve local dishes, among other things. The area is strongly characterised by grassy meadows. Cheese and meat have been the products since time immemorial. Some dishes: aligot, truffade, chou farci, truite au lard, entrecôte au bleu, ommelet au cêpes. Some cheeses come from the region: Cantal, St. Nectaire, Bleu d'Auvergne, Capéron, fromage de chêfre... In our valley, there is a cheesemaker who has created an exhibition space where you can see the process of making cheese. Of course there are wine houses in Aurillac but in our region itself you will not find any wine growers. Late night frosts have reduced the enthusiasm for this enterprise.
Activities
The area is a paradise for hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers. Staff maps and about fifteen walking/cycling/VTT routes for the immediate surroundings are available. It is possible to hire snowshoes, cross-country skis and mountain bikes.
At a few km. there are some interesting outdoor activities to do:
* a via ferrata (secured by a cable, climbing up a 70 m rock face)
* An adventurous course in the trees
* See the Gorges de Jordanne (a 2 hour walk in the beautifully made accessible riverbed).

* The impressive mountain of Puy Mary, a national monument
* The medieval town of Salers
* the Château d'Anjony and the Chateau de Pesteils
* Lac de St. Etienne Cantales, a reservoir, with all kinds of water sports activities

In zo'n prachtig gelegen vakantiewoning hebben we nog nooit gezeten. Het uitzicht rondom is geweldig. De vallei van de Jordaanse is naar onze mening ook de meest mooie van de Cantal. Je kunt er echt prachtige wandelingen maken in een rustige authentieke omgeving. Mooie oude boerderijen en goed gemarkeerde routes in alle moeilijkheidsgraden. Het huisje is prachtig verbouwd en beneden is het heerlijk koel slapen door de dikke muren. Kortom een echte aanrader. We komen zeker ook nog eens terug.

Hallo Tjeert en Annemieke,
we zijn alweer een week thuis (we zaten nog een weekje in Puy de Dome). Maar we denken nog iedere dag aan Le Grangeou. Wat een heerlijk rustig gelegen huis. Zo rustig hebben wij nog nooit gezeten en ook niet met zo'n mooi uitzicht.
We vonden het leuk om een keer bij jullie te eten. We hadden het graag nog een keer gedaan, maar daarvoor moesten wij iets anders laten. Als we namelijk thuiskwamen van een wandeling dan was het heerlijk om op het terras weg te dromen met een boek en een paar biertjes. Maar dan kun je niet meer autorijden. We hebben het een paar keer afgewogen, want het eten was erg lekker. Maar de sfeer van het huis won toch. Het lag dus echt niet aan het eten en ook niet aan jullie ontvangst.
We kennen niet veel mensen die zo'n rust waarderen, maar als de vraag langskomt, zullen we het huisje zeker aanbevelen.Hartelijke groeten,
