Wine, lavender, olives... Enjoy the markets, visit mighty castles and picturesque villages, conquer Mont Ventoux and follow in the footsteps of the Romans...
Sun-drenched holidays in the Drôme Provencale...
Bouchet is a quiet village, situated between the Provencal vineyards on the banks of the river Herein. It has just over a thousand inhabitants and has a bakery, a restaurant and a mini-market (also offering fresh bread). The most important monument is the Cistercian abbey with the church Nôtre Dame de Bosquet, founded between 1181 and 1184. The abbey was under the aegis of the University of Avignon. In the 19th century it housed a textile factory.
Bouchet is situated in a rather flat part of the region, which makes it easy to cycle to the pleasant villages a few kilometres away: Suze-la-Rousse with its mighty castle, Tulette with its supermarket and the museum for tin soldiers, Sainte Cécile with its numerous restaurants and Visan at the foot of the hills which form a great walking area. A bike ride along the caves to taste the local wines can easily be organised. Trained cyclists will find plenty of challenge: the foot of the Mont Ventoux is about 30 kilometres away. Other major attractions nearby are the Gorges de l'Ardèche, Orange, Vaison-la-Romaine and Avignon.

Restaurants, food & wine

Wine, wine, wine
Bouchet is situated in the middle of the Côtes du Rhône Villages area, the crus of the Côtes du Rhône. You don't have to go far for good wine. In the southeast of Bouchet, on the road called Barbaras, is the Domaine du Petit Barbaras. Nearby lies LePlan Vermeersch at the Chemin du Grand Bois (by appointment), leplangt.com. Tasters give this winery 5* out of 12 reviews, respect!
At 7 km, in Visan, you can taste in the large Cave Les Coteaux de Visan. If you don't choose the easiest way, you might find even better wine. Two tips: Domaine de la Bastide for simpler wine and for more up-market shopping.
To the southeast lies Tulette. In the village, the Cave Costebelle and Domaine de Garrigon on the D94 to the east are hard to miss. The same goes for Cellier des Dauphins. Follow the road and you will come across the excellent wines of St. Maurice and Vinsobres. They are not 'sobre' at all, but just very tasty, thanks to all the southern slopes in this village.
If you turn south before St. Maurice, then you haven't driven the wrong way, on the contrary! You are approaching a small wine Valhalla with the villages of Roaix, Rasteau and Cairanne. Those names are valiantly displayed on the labels. Scouring the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail are Séguret, Sablet, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes-de-Venise. The last three stitches in quality the famous Châteauneuf du Pape to the crown, but also in price it does not always make much difference. Tip: in Séguret and Sablet you will find sublime wines that are usually more than worth their price.
Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes is full of caves. The wine from the Domaine de la Présidente, just outside the village, is very good. Or drive to Rochegude, with its castle and its tasty wine. But don't waste all your gunpowder, because on the way back you'll pass Suze-la-Rousse with its beautiful castle and its excellent Cave La Suzienne. The modest cuvée 'Le Lutin' is already an excellent weekday wine.
Is that it? No it isn't! Drive 20 kilometres north to Grignan - which you want to see anyway because of its beautiful location and magnificent castle. You are now in the area of the Appellation Grignan-les-Adhémars. Long before the turn of the millennium you had the Coteaux des Tricastins with its moderate slop wines. From that same area you can now buy fine wines with an unprecedented price-quality ratio under the new name. Domaine Montine in Grignan is best known for its refreshing white and invigorating rosé. Uncrowned king of this appellation is the red of Domaine de Grangeneuve (O et H Bour) in Roussas. Good, but the prices are firm. Our tip, with more modest prices but just as good is Domaine la Bartavelle in Chantemerle, near the D541. They don't have a website, but oh-la-la what are La Petite Etoile and Le Petit Perdrix worth. Also Domaine des Rosier in Chantemerle is not bad at all.

Vaison-la-Romaine (23 km): Famous for its rich Roman ruins and its medieval town and cathedral. Four theatres, numerous galleries; many painters, writers and actors live there. Be sure to visit the site archéologique, and the cathédrale. The town is touristy, but not for nothing!

BIKEKE: Villa Laura is perfect for cycling enthusiasts. You can cycle almost flat, but you can also visit the hills a few kilometres away. Via Rhôna is the long-distance cycling pool along the Rhône. The foot of Mont Ventoux is 30 km from Bouchet. We have numerous beautiful cycling routes which we can provide in .gpx. You can rent good road bikes at Villa Laura, ask for the possibilities.
Canoes: The spectacular Gorges de l'Ardèche are most beautiful from a canoe. You can rent for example in Vallon Pont d'Arc.
Hiking/climbing: You can walk almost everywhere. Hiking and climbing areas par excellence are the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Parc Naturel Régional des Baronnies Provençales. In Buis les Baronnies is the Via Ferrata Saint Julien. In Villa Laura you'll find a closet full of guides and maps.
Swimming: Parc Aquatique Nyonsoléiado in Nyons.
