The house
The gîte 'La Fromagère' is a detached house on half a hectare of land with a beautiful view. The house is suitable for 8 people.
One enters the kitchen. It is very spacious and light and has a large dining table, dishwasher, gas cooker and wood stove (+/- 7 x 4 m). The kitchen opens onto a covered terrace with a fixed garden table at the front of the house. In the living room (+/- 5 x 3 m) there is a second wood-burning stove, some comfortable chairs and sofas for 6 to 8 people and a small dining table. Through double doors, the living room opens onto a second walled terrace from where you have a beautiful view of the spectacular mountains and gorge of Pommerol.
There are three bedrooms, two of which have a double bed (+/- 3 x 3,5 m and +/- 5 x 4 m) and one bedroom (+/- 5 x 4 m) with two single or double beds (wide sofa beds). One of the three bedrooms with a bathroom is located on the ground floor and has a separate entrance. It is a large room where children can sleep with their parents.
There are two bathrooms, each with a shower, a washbasin and a toilet. Duvets, pillows and extra blankets are available in the cottage. Bed linen, bath and kitchen towels must be brought with you. Washing machine and dryer are available.

The hamlet 'La Fromagère' is situated at 1000m altitude and consists of no more than 6 houses. The gîte is one of those houses on half a hectare of land, on the edge of the hamlet. Just like the gîte called 'La Dame d'en Face', this gîte 'La Fromagere', is part of the hamlet. Both detached gîtes are next to each other. The gardens of the gîtes are on both sides of the houses, so it is completely private and quiet. From the garden one has a view on the impressive mountains with the village Pommerol built high on a mountain. Around the house one sees the rough nature of the Haute-Alpes. Flora and fauna in abundance such as thyme, lavender, chamois, deer, badgers, wild boar and a vulture colony at 20km distance. An ideal area for nature lovers.
There are dozens of walking, cycling and mountain biking routes in the area. Rosans, a medieval village with a castle dating from the 11th century, is 10 km from La Fromagère. The colourful lavender and sunflower fields, the mountain streams and the spectacular gorges make this area unforgettable.

Unieke plek, het uitzicht is inderdaad zoals op de foto adembenemend. De plek en hele streek is heel rustig, ondanks dat het zo mooi is dus genieten voor liefhebbers van deze zaken. De tijd heeft hier stil gestaan. A la campagne, echt heel landelijk, zo is ook het huis, wel wat gedateerd qua inrichting en verzorging maar wat ons betreft een aanrader.

Wat een geweldig fijn huis! Het huis, de inrichting, de ligging en de rust zijn uniek! Ik heb al veel huizen gehuurd in mijn leven maar dit is een van de mooiste plekken tot nu toe. Rust, wandelen, fietsen... alles vanuit het huis te doen. De Drome provencale is een prachtige streek met mooie natuur en heerlijke slaperige dorpjes. Hier komen we zeker terug!

Wat een heerlijke vakantie in een fijn en vooral compleet ingericht huis op een zalige rustige mooie lokatie.
De gite is inderdaad veel ruimer als de foto's doen vermoeden, ook staat de master badkamer niet op de foto's. De omgeving is hier zo mooi, en zo rustig, en het weer lijkt hier wel altijd goed te zijn. Je moet wel even wat verder zoeken naar winkeltjes; veel lokale bakkertjes en kruideniertjes zijn helaas verdwenen - maar even een ritje door de bergen voor wat boodschapjes is daar zeker geen straf! Ik wens de volgende gasten net zo'n fijne vakantie als wij hebben gehad! Dit jaar (2017) vertoeven wij in Bretagne, maar deze plek staat zeker op ons verlanglijstje om nog eens te bezoeken.
Restaurants, food & wine
There are beautiful old villages and towns to visit in the vicinity of La Fromagère.
On the village square of the medieval village of Rosans (10km) you will find a restaurant/café, grocery shop and bakery. Further down the road, in Verclause (13km), you will find a larger supermarket. In La Motte Chalancon (13km) and Remuzat (22km) you will also find supermarkets and several restaurants. Die (45km) is a historic town, famous for its 'Clairette de Die' wine.
Picodon' is a goat cheese from the Drôme. In Dieulefit, about an hour's drive away, there is the Fêtes du Picodon on the second Sunday in August. Gap, Valence and the nougat city Montélimar are larger cities and also very much worth visiting. When you drive south, you will soon find yourself in the heart of wine regions such as Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Nyons, 45 minutes drive from La Fromagere has a medieval town centre and a Roman bridge 'Pont Roman' over the river Eygues. Nyons is the centre of olive production, the market on Thursday mornings is very well known in the region with the many local products such as olive oil, honey, cheese, lavender etc..
Activities
Walking, cycling and mountain biking
Directly from the house, in the mountains and the forests, but also in the surrounding area, along the many vineyards and lavender fields, there are beautiful trips to walk and cycle. The Drôme contains 3000km of walking- and mountainbike routes. There is plenty of choice in all levels of difficulty.
Swimming
At 10km distance, near the villages Rosans and La Motte Chalencon, there are two lakes (Plans d'eau) with at least a small beach. The many rivers also offer cooling.
Canoeing & Via Ferrata
On the river Drôme, you can make canoe trips with the whole family. In the surroundings of Luc-en-Diois, 29km from La Fromagère, several Via Ferrata courses are set out.
Rafting, canyoning, horse riding, donkey rides, it is all possible in the vicinity of La Fromagère.
