The house
Holiday home La Grange des Peyrouses was rebuilt within the confines of the original barn (roof and walls were a given) this allowed for the layout and sizing of the interior to be customised. The result is a very spacious and light house. The optimal use of original elements: rafters, natural stone walls and local materials have given it a unique and warm appearance.
Holiday home La Grange des Peyrouses has a large (50m2) living room with an open kitchen and bar. The high loft (7.50 m) adds another dimension to the whole. From the living room you have beautiful views on two sides over the terrace, private grounds and valley.
The kitchen is equipped with all modern conveniences and lends itself perfectly to burgundy cooking.
The bathroom and double bedroom on the ground floor are spacious and more or less square (6.5 m2 and 12 m2 respectively). The 3-bedroom (20m2) on the 1st floor is located directly under the steep roof and is accessible via an open staircase from the living room.
From the central corridor, there is a passage to the library (from regional info to novels) and recreation room with table tennis, table football, mini billiards and darts. There is also an extra fridge and a cupboard full of games and puzzles.

South-west of Clermont-Ferrand near the sources of the Dordogne and near the village of Chastreix lies La Grange des Peyrouses. The house is located at the end of a valley halfway up the slopes of the Mont-Dore mountain range with the highest peak being the Sancy (1886 m). Sheltered from the wind from the north and the east, the house has several terraces on the long sunny side facing south and south-west.
From the house and the terrace you have a 70 km far and free view towards the valley of the Dordogne. Directly in front of the terrace there is a vegetable garden and a meadow with a little stream.
The house can be reached in two ways: by a private road to the front door: Parking 2 or from Parking 1 directly on the D88 by a footpath (60m) with a small bridge over the stream. Picture nr.4 in the series of pictures gives a good map.
The total area is almost 1 hectare and has a very varied natural vegetation with beautiful mountain flora. In short, a place with plenty of privacy, peace and space.
Children can play freely and safely in the creek by the bridge, build dams and do other construction/water works.

Heerlijke week gehad in La Grange!! Het hele gezin heeft enorm genoten van de fijne locatie, temidden van de prachtige natuur van de Auvergne, het geweldige uitzicht, het fijne huis en niet te vergeten de gastvrijheid van de toffe eigenaren. Merci beaucoup x.

Afgelopen zomer 2 weken mogen genieten van dit heerlijke huis en de fantastische omgeving.
Frits en Linda zijn de gezellige en hartelijke eigenaren en staan altijd voor je klaar. Het huis is ruim en comfortabel en ligt prachtig iets buiten het dorpje chastreix.

Heerlijk huis in een prachtige omgeving. We hebben genoten van de natuur, de omgeving, het prachtige uitzicht over het dal, de gezellige gesprekken met Frits en Linda. We hopen zeker nog eens terug te komen om nog meer van de omgeving te zien en te genieten van de rust en het aangename klimaat. Zelfs in coronatijd was dit een prima verblijf!
Restaurants, food & wine
Auvergne is particularly famous for its cheeses, the best known of which are the Saint Nectaire, the Cantal, the Salers, the Fourme d'Ambert and the Bleu d'Auvergne. Like the wine, it is now an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), and signs along the road point to farmers who produce and sell these AOC cheeses. Local wines such as St Pourçain, Chateaugay and Boudes go well with it. But also lovers of spring water can indulge themselves, the region is traditionally a spring water producer (Volvic, Vichy etc) and ....het flows here just from the tap! The water company of the municipality in fact taps directly from the mountain above us. Volcanism and water are also the basis of the various 19th century spa resorts in the area, such as La Bourboule and Le Mont-Dore. Furthermore, there is a variety of hams and sausages, the best and again authenticated come from local breeds of cows such as the Aubrac, the Charolaise and the Salers. The local aperitif is called Gentiane (brands: Suze, Aveze and Salers) and is made from the root of the yellow Gentian. Typical local dishes are Truffade, Ponti and Choux Farci, hearty country food for the connoisseur.
Activities
The surroundings of holiday home La Grange des Peyrouses is pre-eminently suitable for (long) walks, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding and fishing. For lovers of air sports there is a wide range of possibilities, including paragliding, hang- and gliding and balloon trips. Swimming is possible nearby in the plan d'eau of La Tour d'Auvergne or covered/outdoor in the brand new swimming pool of La Bourboule and in various lakes in the area, among others in Lac Chambon with sandy beaches and a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. For the children, there are various theme parks nearby, such as Vulcania and Murol.
Due to a turbulent history with a lot of volcanism, the region offers a varied landscape with ever new views on lakes, meadows, forests and mountains. The turbulent geological past is also the reason why the area has a very diverse flora, which attracts as many different species of butterflies. A true Eldorado for plant and butterfly lovers, but also a place where photographers can indulge themselves.
