The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Champ de la Fontaine is an active small-scale livestock farm where a small herd of dairy sheep are kept in an organic manner. Sheep's cheese is made daily in spring and summer. This old farmhouse from 1880 is located in the heart of the Morvan regional nature park between extensive woodland, meadows and a Natura 2000 nature reserve. We mainly focus on the active, sporty tourist who enjoys walking, cycling and water sports. Nature lovers in general and bird watchers in particular will find what they are looking for here.

The spacious holiday home for 2-4 persons is located in one of the outbuildings in the yard and has been attractively furnished. Downstairs is a living room with adjoining kitchen with two comfortable sofas and a wood stove. The kitchen is equipped with a 5-burner gas stove with electric oven, a dishwasher and many kitchen utensils. A spacious dining table invites you to dine for a long time. The bathroom has a shower, a toilet and a large sink.
The upper floor has an office corner, a spacious bedroom with two single beds and a large bedroom of 50m2 with a double bed.

The gite has its own garden and south-facing terrace with lots of privacy and a view of meadows. The garden is equipped with a lounge set and a garden table and chairs.

Wireless internet is available in the gite.

The Gite is non-smoking. Dogs are not allowed.
As you will stay on our farm, we prefer that children are older than 10 years.

4 km from the holiday house is Brassy with a small supermarket, a fresh bakery, some restaurants and a weekly market. In Montsauche (7 km) is a bank, a physician, pharmacy and a petrol station.

The Morvan was the area of the Celts. Anywhere in the environment are still remains of their culture and of the Romans to visit such as les Fontaines Salées, (about 30 km). Here were the sacred springs of the Celts, salt water sources where still today water bubbles up.
The famous Basilica of Vézelay, Bazoches Castle, the picturesque Avalon and Chateau Chinon with its nice museums, are less than 35 km from the holiday home.
About 5 km from Champ de la Fontaine you find the Lac de Chaumecon, a large lake between the trees at Brassy. Slightly away are Lac de Settons (10 km) and Lac de Panneciere. These lakes are some more known and a bit more crowded, but well worth a visit.
The Morvan has played an important role in the French resistance during the second world war. In Dun-les-Places (10 km) and Saint-Brisson (15 km) are museums that recall this period.
Thanks to the hilly landscape with forests, lakes , rivers and fish ponds is the Morvan an area where all those who like sports can be active. The famous pilgrimage route GR13 also runs by the Morvan.

Activities

Sports, culture or historical sites......... starting at the gite there are numerous alternatives. But staying in the garden and finally read the books that have been waiting some time or try out new recipes in the well-equipped kitchen, ... also contribute to a wonderful holiday feeling.

Sport.
For each level of hiker are in the immediate proximity challenging hiking routes: through the hilly landscape with woods, lakes, rivers, picturesque villages. Several hiking trails start from the gite.

With two large lakes nearby (Lac de Setton, Lac de Chaumecon), numerous rivers and several fishing ponds, the region is a paradise for waterlovers. Those who love fishing, rafting, kayaking, sailing or swimming ... here it comes all the way.

With multiple MTB trails that pass in front of the gite, mountain bikers feel in heaven.

Finally, there are also facilities for quad riders and rock climbers.

Culture and history
The Morvan has traditionally been a Celtic area until the Romans conquered it. There are still remains in the environment of the Celts as the Holy salt water sources near Vezelay, an archaeological site and a museum about the Celts and the ancient town of Bibracte.

Visiting Autun recalls the Roman way of living. The Basilica of Vezelay, the castle of Vauban, ... These are just a few examples of the cultural heritage in the neighbourhood.

In the summer season there are weekly markets, flea markets in the villages, small-scale art exhibitions and festivals. In the gite you will find the necessary information and an up-to-date agenda.

The Morvan knew very active resistance groups during WW2; local museums e.g in Dun-les-Places and Saint-Brisson highlight this period.

  • FLORANGE Sylvie from oise,

    10 stars
