The house
Our Douce Treize has the atmosphere of a lovingly refurbished old house. The northern French character has been well preserved, while Dutch taste has also found a nice place. The atmosphere is described by some as 'rural- romantic- relaxed': the interior is a nice mix of old and modern. The kitchen has recently been completely renovated (wood with hard stone). The house is set in a large nicely developed garden. The beds have the following widths: 120 cm, 160 cm and 180 cm. There is a DVD player and DVDs as well as a CD player and CDs. Coffee can be made with a cafetiere, an Italian percolator, filter holder or Nespresso machine. Cooking is done on induction. There are games and a well-stocked bookcase. There is a wood-burning stove with oven and a fireplace. The house is now connected to fibre optic cable, making internet fast.

Onze Douce Treize is situated at the edge of the small farming village of Montblainville. The landscape is hilly with large and small-scale agriculture (cattle breeding, arable farming). The Aire flows along the village, where you can swim. Because of this landscape, there are many species of birds, foxes, deer, badgers and, for example, fireflies and hazel worms. We swim in the river Aire, a few hundred metres from our house. There are also other suitable places. To do so, you often have to walk through a meadow. Montblainville is about 400 km from Utrecht.

We waren met mijn dochter en haar vriend (die zelfs gezwommen hebben in de Aire ) en hebben genoten van het huis, de grote tuin met al z’n plekjes en aan het eind van de dag met een lekker glas wijn in het zonnetje bij het huisje gezeten wat helemaal achteraan ligt.
Varennes dichtbij voor de nodige boodschappen en te bereiken met de fiets.
Vanuit mijn jarenlange eerste Wereldoorlog interesse loop je zo het Argonne bos in ten westen van het huis en de omgeving bied ook talrijke mogelijkheden voor wandelingen en bezichtigingen.
Ik ken de streek redelijk goed want kom er al ca 15 jaar dus het was genieten.
Al met al…was een heerlijke vakantie en enorm mazzel met het weer.

Mooi gelegen vakantiehuis in een zeer rustige omgeving en met een grote tuin met weids uitzicht. Ruime slaapkamers en badkamer en een keuken die van alle gemakken is voorzien. Wij waren er de eerste week van september toen het elke dag 30 graden of nog warmer was. Maar in de ochtend was het niet warmer dan 22/23 graden en konden we wandelen in de nabij gelegen bossen. En als het in de middag te warm werd gingen we zwemmen in de rivier of lezen onder een boom in de tuin. We hebben 7 dagen genoten!
Restaurants, food & wine
In Apremont (4 km) and Varennes en Argonne (4 km) are restaurants that use local products. The Champagne region is around the corner (Reims). Here and there you can buy local honey and in the local supermarkets you can buy local products such as jam and liqueur of the mirabelle, rapeseed oil and game pate.
Activities
Montblainville is a small farming village (70 inhabitants). The nearest town with shops is 4 km away via a quiet country road. The Argonne Forest is approximately adjacent to the house. The house is ideally suited as a base for walking and cycling directly from the house. At a slightly greater distance there are activity parks, historic buildings and museums. Reims is reasonably close (1 hour by car), so a visit to the Champagne region is also good to do. Because of the large garden (3000 m2) and free location with wide views it is a wonderful place to just be, read a book, make a wood fire and for example play with the children. There are monasteries and abbeys to visit in the area, and sometimes during a walk in the woods you just stumble upon a small quiet cemetery from the First World War or visit large monumental memorial sites in the neighbourhood (e.g. Verdun). To live for a while in Montblainville is above all to be immersed in the silence, to look at the starry sky and to experience nature, freedom and space.

Final cleaning cannot always be redeemed due to logistical constraints.
Additional price info and offers
Sometimes the final cleaning cannot be bought off, and the tenant must leave the house clean. In colder periods, a fuel surcharge may apply. We do not ask for a deposit and assume that if damage is caused, the tenant will reimburse or repair the damage. This has always gone well. The price in the winter period includes a firewood/heating surcharge of 7.50 per day.
