The house
The West Wing is a fully self-contained, well-insulated gite with a private entrance. On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen with a washing machine, a dishwasher and a fridge-freezer. You will find a dining room and a very spacious living room (60 m²) with original exposed stone walls, and a beautiful open fireplace with a marble outline. The sofas and the dining table can seat six people. A stereo is also provided.
Double patio doors lead to a private terrace with outdoor furniture and barbecue, and great views of the park.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a King size bed, while the other two bedrooms have twin beds. All are tastefully furnished in keeping with the style of the house.
Please specify if you require child bed and/or high chair.
There are two shower rooms: a bathroom with bath, sink and WC, and a large shower room with jet shower, sink and WC.
The West wing is available for rental separately or can be rented in combination with the East wing and / or the Cottage for large groups (max. 14 people).

La Prade is situated just two kilometres from the village of Villasavary, close to Castelnaudary in the historic Aude region of Languedoc-Roussillon. Villasavary has a butcher, a baker, a general store, pharmacy and post office to cover everyday needs. Castelnaudary, a ten-minute drive away, has numerous banks, supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. Even closer at hand are the Roman market town of Bram, and the historic town of Fanjeaux, site of the home of St. Dominique, founder of the Dominican order of monks.
Perhaps the most famous landmark in the region is the beautifully restored medieval city of Carcassonne – a Unesco World Heritage site, which is only 25 minutes east of La Prade. Carcasonne's magnificent ramparts and 42 towers guard the main Château de Comtal; beneath is a maze of small cobbled streets with numerous restaurants and little shops.
It's just a 20-minute drive to the delightful medieval ‘bastide’ town of Mirepoix, with its 15th century ‘couverts’ (covered arcades). The whole region of Languedoc-Roussillon is steeped in history, from the time of the Roman occupation to the turbulent era of the medieval Cathar heresy.The countryside is dotted with les châteaux du Pays Cathare - magnificent ruined fortresses, perched on sheer rocky outcrops. Lastours, Montsegur and Peyrepertuse are three of the most majestic, and are well worth exploring. There are also numerous beautiful restored abbeys to visit, including Fontfroide, St Papoul, and Lagrasse.
Within an hour's drive westward is the largest collection of works in the world by Toulouse-Lautrec, housed at the museum named after him in Albi, close to Toulouse. There are excellent Mediterranean beaches just 50 minutes away at Narbonne and Leucate and there are also a number of lakes nearby, such as Lac Saint Ferreol, which has a beach, good swimming, and good walking trails through the woods.

Heel erg bedankt voor het heerlijke verblijf op het landgoed. We hebben genoten van de plek, het zwembad, de tennisbaan en de tips voor de uitstapjes in de omgeving. Het appartement en de tuin waren fijn om te zijn. Andrew is een fijne gastheer. We komen graag weer.

Fantastisch verblijf gehad in de Cottage. Het verblijf voldoet aan alle verwachtingen, is zeer comfortabel en sfeervol ingericht. Alles wat je maar kunt bedenken is aanwezig.
Het landgoed is eveneens prachtig en omdat je maar met maximaal 3 andere gezinnen zit lijkt het wel of je een privé landgoed (inclusief heerlijk zwembad) tot je beschikking hebt. Wing of a beautiful house, well located for both mountains and sightseeing. Lovely big pool and well maintained tennis court for the kids. Super friendly dog (with friendly owners too!)
Restaurants, food & wine
Castelnaudary, a ten-minute drive away, has numerous bars and restaurants and there is a choice of further restaurants in the area which specialise in local dishes as well as other cuisine. We supply a list of restaurants for our guests to facilitate their dining adventures as well as recommendations for local wine tasting.
Activities
The West Wing at Domaine de La Prade is situated in the main house, an impressive 19th century maison de maitre (with 2 further self contained gites - 1 in each wing) set in a private 20 acre well kept parkland estate with a variety of trees and 3 ponds. Guests can enjoy walking in the park, swimming in the 6x12 metre pool or playing tennis on the full sized court. There are many activities within easy reach, including golf, tennis, and boating on the 17th century Canal du Midi, which passes nearby, connecting the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. There are many excellent restaurants and auberges locally, where one can explore the regional cuisine, including cassoulet, foie gras and magret de canard, and also sample the local wines.
Further remarks
Domaine de La Prade is located 6kms from the A61 motorway, so is easily accessible, but far from any background traffic noise.
Additional price info and offers
Available except Jan1 - Apr16 and Oct 29 - Dec 31. A 15% deposit is required to secure a booking, with the balance payable eight weeks prior to arrival. Linen and bath towels are provided. Rental is normally weekly, Saturday to Saturday, except outside high and peak seasons when other times can be arranged. A small local taxe de sejour per person per night will be collected on arrival (children under 18 are exempt) as well as a returnable security/damage deposit of €100.
