The house
This fully renovated 3-bedroom house is only 900 m away from the Gironde River (12 km wide) has a lovely little harbour. Located only 12 km away 1st sandy beaches. It is located on the outskirts of the hamlet of Le Petit Chenac on top of a hill, giving you lovely views of the estuary, the village of Chenac and the vineyards.
This former old farmhouse is over 300 years old. Very special is that despite renovations, many of the authentic walls and beams have remained intact. The thick walls keep the house cool in summer.
The house has a private enclosed garden, with beautiful views of the atmospheric street of le Petit Chenac and the sunny garden. Along the house runs a bicycle and walking path, except for the occasional cyclist or hiker, it is very quiet.
On the ground floor is the kitchen with dining area, living room and a toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and washing machine. From the spacious kitchen diner, you immediately enter the sunny terrace, with a large garden table and luxury lounge set.
The living room has a comfortable seating area with television*, a well-stocked bookcase and games. On the 1st floor there are 3 bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with toilet. On request, we can place a cot (120 x 60) and there is a child safety gate.
Our communal garden has several terraces for lazing, reading or just enjoying nature and the quiet and rural surroundings. A favourite spot is at the back of the garden under the trees where you have a beautiful view of the river and where it is always a bit cooler in summer because there is almost always a breeze from the sea.
For the children, there is a playground with a swing, slide, gym rings etc. There is also a swimming pool, great for a cooling dip!

This region on the river Gironde has a wonderful climate with an average of over 2600 hours of sunshine a year and is one of the most pleasant in France. The area is beautiful and has much to offer. Characteristic of this area is its tranquillity, idyllic sandy beaches, charming fishing villages and many cosy bars and restaurants. Within walking distance, 900 metres is a small port of Saint-Seurin-D'Uzet, during the summer months there is a small restaurant/bar here, beautifully situated on the waterfront. Nice of course is that the Plus Beaux Village de France Talmont-sur-Gironde is just around the corner. A beautifully romantic town that you should definitely visit when you are here.
The countryside lends itself perfectly to walking and cycling. Along our house runs one of the many cycling, mountain biking and hiking routes of this region, which are all very clearly marked.
Our garden has several terraces for lazing, reading, or just enjoying nature and the quiet and rural surroundings. The children will also have a good time, there is play equipment with a swing, slide, gymnastic rings. There is also a swimming pool, great for a cooling dip!

Séjour en famille très agréable ! Le gite est très bien équipé et bien pensé; il y a tout ce qu’il faut pour de jeunes enfants (vaisselle, jeux, marche pied, barrière de sécurité..). La maison a été rénovée avec goût. L’extérieur est très sympa également. L’emplacement est idéal pour rayonner dans la région sans faire trop de voiture. Très peu de circulation dans le hameau à part des cyclistes qui empruntent le sentier juste à côté. C’est calme et paisible. Piscine très bien pour que notre fille prenne confiance dans l’eau. Très belle vue sur l’estuaire. Bref, tout était parfait ! Et Ellen et Jean sont très sympathiques. Merci pour le cadeau de bienvenue.

Zeer goed verblijf waarbij de eigenaars ten alle tijde klaar stonden voor informatie
en/ hulp .De Gite is zeer goed uitgerust. Een thuis gevoel.
Restaurants, food & wine
The inner man is not lacking anything here. Naturally, the sea-cum-river provides delicious and healthy food with Mouclade Charentaise being a must. This is a dish of local Bouchot mussels with saffron, butter and the local drink Pineau de Charentes. But of course, the famous delicious oysters of Marennes are not to be missed either.
An absolute must is a visit to Ilja Gort's wine castle, Chateau la Tulipe, which concludes with a delicious wine tasting . During your holiday in the Charente-Maritime, you cannot avoid tasting Pineau des Charentes, Cognac and wine at one of the local wineries. Although Pineau is hardly known in the Netherlands, it is very popular in France. It is a liqueur made from Cognac and grape juice; delicious as an aperitif, but it also tastes very good with dessert.
Wine growers can be clearly identified by the prominent signs along the road. But of course, we are also happy to organise a wine tour concluding with a delicious tasting!
Activities
The Charente Maritime has a lot to offer adults and children alike !
It has a special mix of culture, nature, beautiful sights and, less than 15 minutes away, the beautiful sandy beaches of Meschers-sur-Gironde and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne beckon. This area is characterised by tranquillity, idyllic sandy beaches and charming fishing villages. In Chenac (900 m) there is a public tennis court, everyone can use it for free. In the vicinity are also plenty of super fun outings to do with big and small children: Amusement parks both indoor and outdoor, zoo, climbing parks, karting, canoeing, sailing, tropical swimming paradise etc. etc,
Besides the picturesque villages such as Talmont sur Gironde (7 km) and ports Mortagne (5 km), you can also visit beautiful old towns here such as Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux. There is also archaeological excavation site in Barzan, less than 3.5 km away, very impressive for young and old.
In addition, you can visit several wine estates to taste and enjoy the famous regional products, such as Cognac and Pineau des Charentes. All tourist information is at your disposal in the holiday house, or ask us and we will be happy to tell you more about it.
