Its greatest asset is its tranquillity and space: ideal for walks, cycling, contact with nature, quiet recreation.
Its location in the Saintonge region means you are reasonably close to other villages and local amenities.
Close by there are also other interesting villages and places of interest in the "Vals de Saintonge" region.
Despite its rural location, La Villedieu has basic amenities nearby: bakeries, restaurants/bars, a pharmacy, banks, etc.
There is a Sunday market in the centre of Aulnay (6km) where local produce is traded - a social and lively time of the week.
For those with mobility (car or bike), this is a fine base for regional exploration.
The area around La Villedieu combines tranquillity, history and rural life. It is ideal if you are looking for a place with character, where the pace is a little slower, and where cultural attractions such as a historic church and museums are present.

Restaurants, food & wine
The area falls under the Charente-Maritime wine-growing region and is part of the vineyards whose produce is destined for the appellation IGP Vin de Pays Charentais (for white, rosé and red), among others.
However, the vines here also provide base material for the famous French spirits Cognac - so the area is closely linked to the cognac tradition.
Another local speciality is the aperitif drink Pineau des Charentes: a mixture of grape juice (moût) and cognac brandy. It has delicate aromas of fruit and honey and is typical of the Charente region.
As for flavour profiles:
White wines from the region - often from grape varieties such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Colombard or Ugni blanc - are characterised by floral fragrance, citrus edge, and sometimes a maritime touch.
Red/rosé wines use varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Pinot noir, with aromas of red and black fruits

Snails ("cagouilles") are an iconic dish locally - prepared "à la charentaise" (with white wine, garlic, breadcrumbs) this is a real speciality.
Other seafood: oysters from Marennes-Oléron, mussels, sardines from the coastal zone - the coastal character is also felt in gastronomy.
Country products and regional dishes: e.g. terrines, farci saintongeais (stuffed vegetables/terrine-style), galette charentaise (dessert) etc.
Combining wine/aperitif with regional dishes is typical: think of a light, fresh white with seafood or something fruity with charcuterie or local roast meat.
