Situated amidst the beautiful countryside of the Charente/Dordogne border - one of the sunniest regions in France. There are 5 spacious gites which have been recently rennovated to a high standard, while retaining original features such as exposed beams and charentaise stone walls. The south-facing 11x5m pool is 1.5m deep, with a small paddling section for younger children. There are toilet and showering facilities beside the pool. Our local town, Montmoreau, is a 5 minute drive, offering facilities such as supermarket, bank, pharmacy, bars and restaurants.

Net terug van een heerlijke week in gite Le Verdier bij Dawn en Mark.
Le Verdier is één van de 5 gites op het (kleine) complex..
‘Onze’ 4 persoons gite was groot, schoon en compleet (alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig; fijn!).
Het zwembad is ruim en er staan voldoende ligbedden rondom het zwembad. Vanuit het zwembad heb je een erg mooi uitzicht op de velden.
Dawn en Mark zijn erg gastvrij, hartelijk en staan meteen klaar als je vragen hebt en voorzien je van nuttige informatie. Ook nemen ze de tijd voor persoonlijk contact.
Onze hond heeft het prima naar haar zin gehad; voldoende ruimte in en om de gite en daarnaast voldoende beweging; in de directe omgeving kun je prima wandelen met (of zonder) hond. Bij een aantal restaurants in de omgeving (10 tot 20 minuten rijden) is het mogelijk om de hond mee te nemen.
In deze streek geen massa toerisme (héérlijk!) maar er is zeker voldoende te bekijken en te doen. Mooie dorpjes, kastelen en kerken. De stad Angoulême ligt op goed berijdbare afstand en voor wijngaarden hoef je niet persé naar Bordeaux te gaan; deze zijn ook te vinden in een straal van 20-25 km rondom het complex.
Wij hebben het heel erg naar onze zin gehad op deze locatie en in deze streek!

Het was een heel fijn verblijf, zeer gastvrij. Mark stond altijd klaar om hulp te bieden. Prachtig zicht vanuit onze gite en vanuit het zwembad. Niet duur. Enkel het dubbelbed nogal hard.

Het is de tweede keer dat we op bezoek zijn bij Mark en Dawn en ook deze keer genoten we met volle teugen van de gite (Le Milan), de omgeving, de sfeer en de vriendelijkheid van de eigenaars. Het mooi weer was een extra bonus.
Restaurants, food & wine
There are numerous restaurants in the surrounding areas serving a range of foods, from lunchtime set meals (usually 5 courses for around 15 euros!) to italian, vietnamese or gourmet dining in Chateaux or michelin-starred restaurants. All local villages host fetes throughout the summer, with various stalls and usually a set meal on offer. There are several day and evening markets for the sale of local produce.
Take the wine trails around Bordeaux (80 mins) or St Emilion, or visit the world renowned brandy producers for tours/tastings in Cognac (90 mins).
Activities
Lovely pool ( totally renovated in 2024) with paddling area that is ideal for toddlers. On site there is a childrens play area with swings. Boules can be played next to the pool. There is an undercover play area with a full size ping-pong table and babyfoot football table. Bicycles, tennis and badminton equipment can be borrowed at no cost. A large library of DVD films, games and books (in english) can also be borrowed by guests. A free tennis court is within 10 mins drive. There are 5 riding stables and 2 golf courses within 30 mins drive. The river beach at Aubterre and the lake at Brossac (20 mins) are excellent venues for canoeing and swimming.

Other places of interest within easy reach are Angouleme (20 mins), our nearest commercial centre; Arcachon (140 mins) - Europes largest sand dune; Autberre-sur-dronne (15mins) with riverside beach and 5th-12th C monolithic church; Brantome (20 mins) - one can visit the nearby Chateau of Bourdeilles and underground Caves of Lascaux; Royan (120 mins), our closest seaside resort with bustling harbour and nearby Palmyre zoo.
