Ellen en Erik from Vinkeveen,
Peter en Saskia from Heerhugowaard,
Ronald en Milly from Amersfoort,
Comment from Bernard en Sandra
Restaurants, food & wine
Well, we are in the Cognac region, so lots of cognac houses nearby where you can get a tour and taste. At the smaller cognac houses, you might just end up at the kitchen table for a glass of cognac. In just under an hour you are already in the Bordeaux region ...........
Angoulême also has a multitude of restaurants, cuisines from all over the world and also a starred restaurant.
Activities
The Charente is a very versatile region with countless sunflower fields (July) and with historical cities such as Angoulême, Saintes and Poitiers where you can visit many churches and cathedrals and wander through the small alleys in search of a good restaurant. In addition, there are many walking and cycling tours possible (directly from La Barre) and of course, due to its many rivers, excellent for canoeing.
In the immediate vicinity are several small beaches on the Charente (with lifeguard in summer). Angoulême is also the "comic strip" capital of Europe with a true comic strip museum and great comic strip heroes as murals. Less than 20 km away you'll find Chateau Rochefoucauld, a castle from the 11th century, where you can take an extensive tour. We are on the outskirts of the Cognac region, so soon you drive past several well-known, but also unknown small, cognac houses, where you can often get a guided tour and of course a tasting.
- Bicycle
- Near hiking trails
- Near ATB trails
Further remarks
The Charente, bordering the Dordogne to the south, has a rich history and La Barre is an excellent base from which to explore it. Our estate is 20 km north of Angoulême, 45 km east of Cognac and 100 km north of Perigueux. The Charente is a hilly agricultural region, where you can discover many castles and one is very close by.....
