The Farmhouse at Les Portes Vertes

One of two beautifully restored 18th century stone farmhouses and outbuildings with a private gated walled garden, a heated salt water swimming pool (11m x 5m) and ample on-site secure parking.

The owners David & Josee will ensure a very warm welcome to Les Portes Vertes, in the beautiful countryside of the Poitou-Charentes region of Nouvelle Aquitaine.

Situated roughly half-way between the Loire Valley and the Cognac region, in a picturesque tranquille and safe setting that is only 8 minutes from a town for all your daily requirements.

The Farmhouse is a charming large farmhouse, which has been painstakingly and sympathetically restored over recent years without losing any of its character; its spacious accommodation is usually configured to sleep 8 with the possibility of adding one single bed if required to enable a group of 9. The Farmhouse is fully equipped with everything you need to just move in and relax. It has a large modern country kitchen, a formal dining room, living room and snug with 4 bedrooms (three with double beds, the 4th with two singles) and three bathrooms/shower rooms. (one en-suite, one ‘jack and jill’ and one stand-alone on the ground floor) making it ideal for the older guest.
The ground floor has a very large kitchen with separate dining room, large lounge, bedroom, shower room and a vaulted sitting area (known as the Music Room). The stone walls ensure that the house provides a cool escape from the heat in the summer months.
The kitchen is fitted with hand crafted solid wood units and is well equipped with a dishwasher, gas oven with electric grill, microwave, two low level fridge/freezers and a Krups coffee machine (we provide some capsules to make sure you have that fix if you haven’t been shopping before you arrive). A washing machine is also located in the utility area between the music room and the living room.
A dining room leads off from the kitchen and has a large stone fireplace with a freestanding wood burning fire – a basket of logs is included for your use.
The living room includes Freesat TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs and a relaxing L-shaped 5 and separate 2 seater sofas and a Bluetooth iPod docking station is located in the vaulted sitting area and Wi-fi is included.
The ground floor bedroom area includes two single beds and is situated off of a seating area outside the living room and has access to the downstairs shower room with wash basin and WC.
Both the kitchen and lounge doors open onto your own garden area which lead to the pool area where you will find your own gas BBQ and dining area, the heated in-ground swimming pool and sun lounge area with views looking past the owners’ house onto the fields beyond.
First Floor
A hand built solid wood staircase leads up from the music room to the 3 double bedrooms on the first floor.
The Master Bedroom has a king size bed, walk in wardrobe and Jack and Jill bathroom; large beams and stone walls and a lovely large window with views across the fields.
There are 2 further double bedrooms one adjoining the master with the Jack and Jill bathroom and the other with an en-suite shower room.
All bedrooms look out over the grounds.
All rooms have exposed stone walls and beams providing rural charm and period character whilst the décor and facilities provide a modern (including Wi-fi) convenient ‘home from home’ experience, providing the ideal setting for a relaxing holiday.
The heated saltwater pool – shared with the occupants of our other gite The Stables – includes a shallow end, inflatables and a sun terrace equipped with sun loungers for you to soak up the sun.
The Old Bread Oven provides a welcome shaded area for socializing, al fresco dining or just to relax out of the sun. It is equipped with plenty of seating and all the outdoor games can be found there too – badminton, boules, croquet etc.
